Re: The Bangalore Metro rail (BMRCL) thread!

My office is moving to Mahadevpura. Access to the nearest metro from home is either a 40 min walk,, a Rs 130 cab ride, a 10 min bus ride + 15 min walk. Add to this, I will most probably have to stand all the way. (I am 61).

The thought of driving at 7 am to beat the traffic might be the only option

If your office is at the Bagmane Complex be wary of the Marathahalli junction early in the morning (6:00-7:00). Traffic piles up because:

1. Nobody follows the traffic signal at the top of the bridge and it's a free for all when open

2. Or if the junction is blocked traffic is made to come up the service road and make a U turn further along old airpot road to connect back to the ring road which causes a mess.

The safest bet is taking Old Madras Road.

Then take OMR. I find it has less traffic to and from Whitefield at all times since the metro has started.

Regenerative capture

https://www.popsci.com/technology/ba...ower-stations/

Article mentions New Delhi metro authorities met them. Hope such systems are integrated from start. Should be sizable amount of regenerative energy (mentions 35% energy saves in New York) if you consider the speed/momentum of the trains.

Why not find and recruit one auto guy near your place for thr daily drop? My neighbour does this daily but his usage is also significantly more than just a commute to the metro station.

Alternatively, you could get a 2 wheeler and park it at the metro station or nearby on a daily basis and utilize the metro that way.

If my work had a fixed long distance commute with a convenient metro access, I would try my best to utilize that over driving in the crazed traffic of our city.

Not many auto guys hang out in my area. Anyway, I have been experimenting

Driving - one Friday, it took me 35 min at I left at 730. The following Monday, I left at the same time, it took 50 min as some stoppage on the ORR around Marathahalli cascaded backwards. Return took 1 hour - there is no lean period for traffic

The mental stress between the Indiranagar 100ft road junction till the Mahadevpura stretch is an issue as traffic passes within millimetres of each other.

Metro - I have found a hack
10 min drive to Cubbon Park - Rs 80 for the day
25 min play the sardine in a packed train for 7 stops
10 min walk to office

I also worked out that if I leave before 4.30 PM, I get a seat and when I collect the car, take a longer but quicker route home to avoid the Mallya Hospital stretch. It may be 5-10 min more but the mental peace, carbon footprint and the exercise offset this.

I now need to buy a small car for the station run or swap my diesel for a petrol. Maybe keep the diesel but change the oil more frequently, twice annually.

Re: The Bangalore Metro rail (BMRCL) thread!

I need to board an overnight bus from Swamy Vivekananda metro station (kstdc tirupati bus). Is there any place nearby to park 2 wheeler? I belive the SV station has a 2 wheeler parking but I read that it does not allow overnight parking. Any idea on where else I can park nearby? It's for 1 night and the entire next day.

Re: The Bangalore Metro rail (BMRCL) thread!

Took the Metro last weekend and when I was at Majestic to change-over, the scene reminded me of Mumbai locals. That's the kind of crowd during peak hours now. I think BMRCL must increase the frequency at least during these hours. The rush will get distributed once the other North-South lines come up, and any extra rakes if deployed on the existing lines can then be shifted over to the new lines. But will they ? They are already saying delays in acquiring the rakes for the yellow line which is next up for launch.

I don’t think any of the metro stations allow an overnight parking. I am unable to recommend an alternative option as I am not too familiar with the area. May be try the KR Puram railway station parking and get auto/bus/cab from there.

Re: The Bangalore Metro rail (BMRCL) thread!

Friends, I've gotten a new job in Whitefield. The shift is a US shift 2 to 11 PM and while this helps beat both to and from traffic, I'm not looking forward to driving at night after a full day of work and I absolutely HATE driving in the Varthur area. I was exploring metro options but I have no idea about either the routes or the timings. I live in Hosur.
Seeing the map, the yellow line starts from Bommasandra up to which I can commute by myself and park there. But if getting on the metro there and travelling to the purple line all the way to Whitefield takes either more time or is less convenient then I'll need to look at other options. Can experienced members please throw some light on this?

In which year do you plan to explore sir? The yellow line service has not started. Many deadlines are missed, and the next deadline is June 2025, with an optimistic goal of running 1, maybe 2 or 3 carriages. No idea when the full service will commence.

Yep, even June 2025 looks very optimistic. All the infra, including the stations and interiors are ready. They don't have enough coaches and trainsets to start service. One set has arrived being used for testing. No idea when everything will be in place. Hopefully sometime this year.

Once the Yellow Line services begin, even then, you will have to use the Yellow Line to get to RV Road, then switch to the Green Line, ride that to Majestic, switch to the Purple Line and get to Whitefield. Driving, especially considering your shift times, where you will be able to drive to work during lunch hours and leave work much after peak return traffic may just be the better option.

In the future, for this commute, one can take the Yellow Line to Silk Board, switch to the Blue Line and then switch to the Purple Line, should be shorter. But for that the Blue Line needs to be in place, going by the pace of work, looks like 2030!

Re: The Bangalore Metro rail (BMRCL) thread!

I am waiting for the Pink line to start. As per the last announcement the elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Tavarekere will start in Dec 25 and the entire stretch incl underground from Dairy circle to Nagawara will start in Dec 26.

The problem is my office is at Lakkasandara, hence even the Dec 25 elevated section start will not make much sense. Will need to wait till 2027

Wait what???

I though yellow line was supposed to start in April? I was hyped up about going to the TCS10K using Metro??!!! They were supposed to get one train in Feb, one in Mar and another in April which makes it 4 (since they already had one). And BMRCL said 4 trains are enough for starting the yellow line!!

Idiots these BMRCL ppl I tell you
