12-13Feb'06 - a very snowy day.....

some of you may have heard of the amazingly heavy snow-fall we had over the weekend (12th sat & 13th sun)... an average high of 24" of snow was recorded in the New York City area which is supposed to be one of the heaviest in a long time...

having lived in a small town in upstate New York (Syracuse) for a couple of years during my Masters it wasn't a strange occurance to see so much snow - that place had constant snow-fall throughout the season and heavy winter for almost 8 months of the year...

however, seeing snow fall at the rate of around 3" per hour is something very rare indeed...

anyways, as it was the weekend my wife and i were busy lazing around with nothing better to do so we took some pictures...

most of these pictures are pretty big and not very good quality - just so that you people with slower connections are forewarned...

snow began falling around evening on the 12th while we were visting friends in Long Island. needless to say, when we were driving home around 4am the streets were already covered in snow - 4WD helps in this case...

cars crawling at a snail's pace, cars spinning around, etc, etc...

13th @ 04:00am

more than a foot: (nothing a Land Rover with Low Range & Off-road suspension can't handle! had to shift to Low Range & raise suspension height to get out - else had 4WD wheel spin... kind of fun to watch but bad for everything else..):

Yeah last weekend was TERRIBLE in boston too but i belive you guys in NY got a foot more than us. I fell on one parked car coz it looked like a big heep of snow, there was not a single part exposed until i fell on it and the side view mirror jutted out.

Hey, I'm so envious of you ... And here I've been praying for snow and all I got was a measly 2" in the first week of Jan !! Seems the weather Gods have forgotten Himachal .... seems my apple crop is gonna suffer and if that happens I can forget about the mods !!!

Anyways ... enjoy the snow !! Nice pics ...

Cheers
