Let me explain pictorially what I meant. I need a curvy triangle marked in yellow to prevent straight traffic towards Warje from left most side of bypass highway, this section next to Zinnea opened up few weeks back. Paths marked in green are welcome and correct, Path marked in red is currently allowed and it's incorrect and can be prevented by triangle marked in yellow.

Pardon my not-to-scale drawing skills.
The paths marked by green arrows are now blocked, a wall has been constructed now...

On to another rant now - why have they created a new junction on Paud road, where the service road crosses Paud road? It is causing all sorts of traffic snarls, especially in the evenings, and does not serve any purpose whatsoever! It is being legitimized (traffic lights installed, but not functional), when it is barely 150m from the next traffic light!!

Re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Hi BHPians,

I am taking up a new job from the 1st of July and I need to travel from Tingre Nagar (Vishrantwadi) to Hinjewadi phase 3, atleast 3 days in a week.

What would be the best route up and down. Also, please suggest which times of the day would be suitable for onward and return that would have minimum traffic.

PS: Moving nearby is not an option as of now

Thank you,
Param

Hi Param,
There is nothing as best route for the said destination. All are equally bad and it just depends on at what time are you commuting. Google will assist you in finding the optimum route.

Apart from small hacks like using tank road to reach Khadki, there isn't really much.

With regards to timing, 12 pm to 3 pm will be lean hours in terms of traffic and morning might be till 8:30 am. Its chaos after that.

All the best!

Thank you Abhi for the response. I really prefer avoiding tank road and would take the Deccan college road instead.

Also - I have another question - I am hearing Palkhi is crossing Pune on the 30th of June. Will there be any road closure on this route (Vishrantwadi - Hinjewadi) on July 1st ?

Try this route. It is fast (but a little longer) route and less stressful as well due to wide roads and moving traffic. Also, there is no major water logging on this route. If you plan to take bike then you can squeeze yourself, if it is car then you have to be patient . You have to keep aside at least 3 hours of day for up and down commute.

Once you are in Hinjewadi, it is up to you to either take Maan route or conventional main route (avoid as it has major Metro construction activities) to reach Phase-3. Before 9am and 12-4pm is best time of day to avoid major bottlenecks. Once you start commuting you will figure out the best route and best suited time.

Thank you Varun - this helps a lot. Depending on the weather, I will be using both my car and scooter.

Also, do you know if there will be any closures in this route on July 1st due to Palkhi ?

This year, Palkhi dates start from 28th June till 1st July, refer above links for road diversion details. Palkhi procession will be in PCMC and PMC limits during weekend, so you shall not be impacted.

Re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Fourth week of my regular drive from Tingre Nagar to Hinjewadi Phase 3 and the roads are getting worse day by day. Potholes everywhere from Wakad upto Hinjewadi Phase 2.

I so much feel for the people on scooters and motorcycles. There are too many puddles all over and one can never ascertain the depth before actually going into it. Today alone, I saw 4 to 5 unsuspecting riders get upset by deep puddles.

We, as car drivers always curse the 2 wheeler riders but these are the times where we actually should be lenient to them. I am seeing many impatient car drivers honking incessantly when a bike/scooter rider slows down for a pothole. This goes back to our roots as in one of the other threads where we discuss lack of civil sense by Indians.

I also feel corporates can relax the mandatory WFO policies to be more flexible when weather is bad. After all, people lose more time in commuting when weather is bad.

Now, for the awesome people who work hard and commute everyday braving the roads, weather and the attitude of bigger vehicles, take a bow. The nation continues to develop due to the resilience of people like you.

Re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Not sure if it's just me, or me noticing it late, but there has been bombardment of rumblers (rumble strips) on pune city roads and highways in last few months. It's like one fix for all problems to the authority.
Within the city seeing these every 50-100 meters, at every junction and divider break. This is at crazy levels and getting worse by the day. It hurts like hell to go over some of the bas ones, the whole car starting to rattle and even lose traction at times

Feels like india isn't a country to expect joy of driving. They make it pretty expensive with all kind of taxes and charges and tolls, and then they make it difficult to drive as well. Were the speed breakers not enough to torcher us, and the potholes??

God save us!

Re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Classic example of what is wrong with Pune.
This policeman walking without a care as multiple two wheelers drive past him in the wrong direction.
This has truly become a lawless city, exacerbated by the growing incidence of thuggish behavior on the roads.
