New Year Driving Warning!

Heard this over 92.5 FM today morning.

According to the RJs, Traffic Cops in Mumbai are authorised to cancel your driving license if caught driving under the influence of alchohol.

There would be no warnings, limits to this. This is irrespective if the person is driving safely or hazardously.

Can any one verify this?

Yup, read it in the Mumbai Mirror today. Deputy CM R R Patil plans to make an amendment to the law which will bring this in effect. If caught on Dec 31 with alcohol in your system, your license will be confiscated and subsequently cancelled [plus a 2000 rupee fine, I think].

Cheers [hic!]

Drunken driving NOT ONLY affects us but affects others on road. Bringing this into law books will be good and it will be nicer if they can effect this on-road.

As far as i know nothing like this in Chennai. Even I dont think this can be put into practice on that particular day. 9 out of 10 on the beach roads in the midnight would have consumed alcohol and racing in their 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers.

I had seen policemen not taking the gimmicks seriously by these guys on that particular midnight and allow them to enjoy. They have a very tough time with these guys

Also guys who cannot even stand, will chase the women/girls to shake their hands with them in the pretext of wishing them
