I was watching Set Max in the morning when Srinath & Manjrekar were literally throwing punches at each other. Why cant they have their politics outside the set ? It was so stupid. Manjrekar had to contradict whatever Srinath says.

I agree, LS has an irritating tone.

Another fine specimen (apart from my choice Mark Nicholas) of the worst cricket commentator: Barry Richards. Has a huge thing going against Tendulkar. So much so that he picks one instance to prove his prejudices against Tendulkar and ignores the many instances that prove otherwise.

The other day I happen to hear P.J.DUJON on Ten sports commenting on the WI vs Bangladesh Test match & have started liking him. He seems to be very knowledgeable. He was describing intricately & was very good to hear. One learns so much from these if explained in detail (absolute lay man terms) Along with Sobers this fella will make it to the ranks

Yesterday while browsing the channels I came across the Australia-New Zealand CT final.
There was this funny piece of discussion happening between two commentators(whom I don't know, one of them sounded like Wilky) regarding which team the SA people will be supporting.

Com 1: I think the SA people will support Kiwis because< says some thing related to Rugby> and Kiwis are more likeable people that Aussies.
Com 2 : Ian chappel is sitting close.
Com 1: <after a short pause and says is a lower voice> And he is playing deaf.

Later these commentators were replaced by Manjrekar and Harsha Bhogle and I changed the channel. No need to comments about Manjrekar. Harsha has the unique ability of making a string of comments about completely useless irrelevant topics. He can make a T20 match feel like a Test match.

Harsha Bhogle is THE Worst Commentator ever!! He has no clue most of the times about whats happening in the match.
I many times switch to DD when he is doing his bak-bak. He has become totally intolerable.

I think Ian Bishop is a fantastic commentator. He gives very good insights on fast bowling and is a great analyst of the game.

Sanjay Manjrekar is the worst by a country mile. Thank God we have the mute button on our remotes, it's incredibly useful when he opens his mouth.

Anjum Chopra.

Although there are bad commentators on air like Harsha, Manjrekar, that Bangladeshi commentator (Athar Ali Khan) but Anjum takes the cake for the worst commentator on air these days. Absolutely zero insights, if a batter plays a good shot, she will narrate it as if batter knew what bowler was going to bowl and decided in advance what shot they are going to play.

On the other hand, my favourite would be Ricky Ponting, so much insight by a professional that we audiences tend to miss.

Totally agree. He is the worst commentator and above all he is the biggest jinx when he speaks. I have seen negative things happening when he starts to praise India performance.

On the other hand Dinesh Karthik was the surprise find of this World cup, i found him very versatile and informed.

I have voted for Sanjay Manjrekar as the worst commentator. The quartet of Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Moin Khan and Misbah have some really good insights on the game on their YouTube channel.

Has to be Anjum Chopra. She's probably there because perhaps Star wants the fairer sex to be adequately represented. Big fan of Manjrekar the way he deciphers technique of batsman. He doesn't get much footage on Star though.

I have only faint memory when and why I started this thread 18 years ago.

But it is relevant even today. I would say, the worst comentator awardee 2023 is still there after 18 years in the Poll candidate list. And its - Mr. Sanjay Manjreker.

There is a no excitement or involvement in this commentary, it feels very monotonous and boring in a negative way.

The best from yester years has to be Tony Greig.
