Re: The Cricket Thread

Wow another lovely game today, the second semi final Aus vs Pak. Pakistan played brilliantly but were probably 10-15 runs short just like England yesterday.
Australia were good with the run rate but lost too many wickets till Stoinis and Wade got them through with an over to spare Brilliant contest! Hasan Ali dropped the match when he dropped Wade. Wade looked so totally out of touch till that last hurrah!

Edit:NZ Vs Aus Trans Tasman final this time!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Matthew wade.. phew! Hat-trick of sixes to seal the match in an emphatic manner. The first of the 3 sixes is undoubtedly shot of the tournament IMO. This reminds me of Mike Hussey's spectacular assualt on Saeed Ajmal in the 2010 T20 world cup semi-final!!

Exactly what I've been saying this whole time.
Win toss, Bowl/field first. You get 80%+ probability of winning.
Brilliant game by Pakistan. But, the dew is game winner here.

This has actually happened many times with Indian team in recent world cups. Win all the games in group league. Lose in Semi-final knockout.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Perfect 2 semi finals for a World Cup. I never liked Wade but today he changed that in just 3 balls.
Indians (on twitter): Well played Pakistan. Feel for Babar, Hasan & Afridi.

Australia again stepped up in the big game and had a bit of luck with dropped catches and missed run out chances going in their favour, but you need these in such pressure games.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Brilliant thing in Wade's shots was anticipation, after that drop catch, he anticipated its going to be a fast Yorker and got into position quickly for a brilliant scoop shot, next ball change of pace, stayed at the crease and bang, next fast Yorker again, scoop again. What anticipation man, just wow

Yes. That was brilliant thinking.

Wade is highly underrated. I follow Big Bash. He opens in that and destroys bowling attack for fun. Here he is given a job at no.7 and he did it to perfection. In all Wade appreciation one has to appreciate Stoinis too. When Wade came to bat he was nervous and wasn't timing the ball but Stoinis assured him and stuck few boundaries which gave Wade confidence. Their partnership was fascinating to watch.

On a lighter note -

Re: The Cricket Thread

And when Hasan Ali dropped Wade in the last (played) over, it was a reminder of another miss years ago in similar circumstances. Like then, now too, it could be said he didn't just drop a catch, he dropped the World Cup!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Never did an Australian win in cricket feel as good as it did yesterday!

I was thinking that this T20 world cu must've been the most boring of all T20 world cup. No because India were out in the group stages but overall it lacked entertainment. But the two semifinals have made up for it.

Both England and Pakistan were favourites going into the game and known for their power game and had a wonderful run in the group stages. Both scored just about par score or 5-10 runs above par. Both started off their bowling innings with a wicket off the 3rd ball of the opponent team's dangerous player. Both England and Pakistan had the game in firm grip after 15 overs with Newzealand and Australia needing 60+ runs in the last 5 overs. And then unexpected players in the form of Mitchell and Neesham for NZ and Stoinis and Wade for Australia came out with their powerplay. In the end, a win that seemed tough was accomplished with one over to spare! So much similarities that you wonder if it is scripted, but what entertainment! Both England and Pakistan knocked out - India slept a bit more peacefully

Although Australians come into their own on a big stage, I'm rooting for NZ to win the finals and complete a world championship win in all three formats or the game (I consider them equal winners of the ODI WC). It's befitting if they win the WC of the Gentlemen's game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think during second half, from overs 12 to 20 there's absolutely nothing for bowlers. Let's see if the team batting 1st wins the cup. Shaheen was absolute beauty in the first over. He has simply outdone Finch, Marsh, Rohit and Rahul. Great 1st over. Marsh was lucky that's it.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am also rooting for NZ, In fact, I don't know of anyone who cheers for Australia in this case. I wish Kane wins it batting first. Thereby proving all the theories about the dew factor wrong. Dew should not be a problem for a good team like NZ who has all kinds of players in the team and bats very deep. It will be great to see the nice guys be the champions in both the short and long format of the game.
