Also the fact that Jimmy, Stuart and Robinson are a deadly combo and they have the power to destroy a mighty batting lineup, The indian batsmen have to play cautiously. A quickfire of 25-40 runs by Pant would secure the innings.
Hope that Rain does not play spoilsport.

Completely agree with you. However, the forecast at TB is overcast. There will be several interruptions and then that would favour Anderson & Broad. To offset them it is important that we have some quick runs on the board. This is a good opportunity to go up in the series.

I don't think this is a good idea in test cricket

It can easily backfire and open the flood gates for a procession. If Pant comes in at his regular batting spot and plays aggressively it's a different thing (like in the Gabba test).

Anyways, we can have our own innovative strategies, but in the end I'm sure Kohli and the think tank have a plan that's likely very different from ours

This score may look easy to get (numerically), but we may still end up losing after coming tantalisingly close, that's very much possible in test cricket. Couple of hours to go, fingers crossed.

The way it's raining any play looks dicey. You are forgetting one important point. The more cloudy it gets the more deadly Andreson and broad become. It's easy to hit the ball when it's not swinging but when it is then even someone like Pant will struggle to hit it. I believe we should stick to the same batting order and make sure even if we can't force a victory we don't end up with a loss cos going 1-0 behind will be tough to digest after dominating most of the match.

Precisely my point. If we promote Pant for hitting we are asking him to play in a specific way. If he comes at his usual number he can assess match situation and play as he wants to play.

We did lose Edgbaston test in 2018 chasing a similar kinda target and Kohli being in terrific form. So, can't take this 150 odd runs left lightly. I would prefer a draw than a loss making stupid decisions.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This increasingly reminds me of Ind vs Aus Chennai 2004. Similarly tricky target but a somewhat positive start with sehwag and yuvraj opening. But rain played spoil sport on the 5th day with no play possible.

Re: The Cricket Thread

There was no way we could have won in overcast swinging conditions! Plus our middle order - Pujara,Kohli,Rahane not in the greatest form. So not a bad result after all. Though would have preferred 1 or 2 sessions to make match interesting today.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Disappointing end to an excellent match. Root's second innings century stands out especially with the kind of strike rate he maintained. For India, Bhumrah & KL Rahul's form are big plus for the coming matches. On the other hand, the worry is A Rahane & Pujara. Latter showed some positive strokes yesterday so counting on that, he should be fine.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rain played spoilsport but at least theoretically it could have been anyone's game, so a draw isn't a bad result!

Going down in the opening game of a series can put any team under pressure.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Wow! This is some news!
Bangladesh dismiss Australia for just 62 runs in the final match of the T20 series and win the series 4-1. This is Australia's lowest score in T20 internationals.

Match score:
Bangladesh 122-8 (20.0)
Australia 62 all out in 13.4 overs!

After getting a first innings lead of 75 or more, India have never lost a game against England. That record is maintained now.

This series has been unbelievable. A forgetful series for Aussies but an unforgettable one for Bangladesh

A T10 format probably though I wish it's T20 at least.

Let's see how they play in the upcoming T20 WC, this doesn't seem like a depleted Aussie side though.

Also remains to be seen what impact this has on the Aussies taking part in the IPL which is scheduled just before the world cup. Will they ask them not to participate citing national team training duties ?

Hope he recovers. During 1990s, he was one of my favorite cricketers.

Speculation :Ravi Shashtri has informed few BCCI members of his wish to step down as the head coach post WC T20.
