Re: The Cricket Thread

Amazing game. Amazing comeback by Shami and India!
Feeling sad for NZ and Williamson :(
Commentary by Iam Smith and other NZ commentators was good fun!

Re: The Cricket Thread

there have been 17 tied T20Is so far and Newzealand have played 7 of them!
next highest is West Indies at 3 and all of those 3 are against...New Zealand!
Out of those 7, NZ have won only 2. NZ is the SA of T20Is in choking!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Had Taylor come to bat at #4 then this would have been an easy win for NZ. What were they thinking? Santner and Grandhomme ahead of Taylor, seriously?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Have to give credit to Shami for setting up the tie by defending 2 runs from 4 balls! Bumrah had one of those once in a blue moon off day. Was very surprised he was still given the Super Over.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Exactly, Bumrah was a poor choice for the super over. Jadeja should have bowled it.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Another Newzealand match
Another Tie
Another Super over
Another loss for Newzealand

Total 18 T20I ties. NZ have played in 8 of them. They have lost 6 out of those eliminators!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Don't forget the stingy 19th over bowled by Saini! This performance should do a world of good to Shardul.

I really do not know why they have Super Over in a Bilateral Series. I'm told both teams have agreed to it in their playing conditions. I guess its good practice now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

New Zealand are the new chokers of world cricket. Tim Southee perhaps has the record of bowling the highest number of super overs. All for losing cause I guess.

Re: The Cricket Thread

New Zealand - what are they thinking (if at all) and what are they actually doing ? From seemingly easy winning positions, they're digging themselves into deep holes to end up losing. I mean, yes, they're very sportive, nice guys, etc but this is becoming all too predictable now, almost seems like they're playing to a script to lose the match in a dramatic/sensational fashion!

Would you believe it's another T20, another tie, goes to super over and New Zealand lose again ? That's exactly what happened. India really were out of the match for most of the 20 over regulation time and came back in the with the penultimate Saini over and a magical last over by Shardul Thakur and then continued to take the momentum into the super over with the batting. Well, it's nice to see the Indian team end up on the winning side but our fielding needs some serious improvement - dropped catches, missed run out chances, etc can prove very costly, luck favored the brave today

Re: The Cricket Thread

A good series victory. I'm happy that India won 5-0. A great bowling attack differentiates this team from Indian teams of the past.
Few things India have to sort before the T20 WC:
1. Are they going to take Dhawan as a reserve opener?
2. Who is the replacement for Pandya? Pandya was valued for his hitting ability (more than his bowling) and I think only Pant can replicate that
3. Saini and Bumrah are the definite starters in the 11. Is Shami/Bhuvi/Thakur the next seamer?
4. How are India going to fit Washington Sundar? He's a valuable bowler in the shorter formats

Here's my T20 11:
1. Rahul
2. Rohit
3. Kohli
4. Shreyas
5. Pandey
6. Pant/Pandya
7. Jadeja/Sundar (Sundar might be more suitable for the smaller grounds in NZ)
8. Chahal
9. Saini
10. Bumrah
11. Bhuvi/Shami (depends on IPL performances too)

Other news: Rohits injury might be the best opportunity for Rahul to make a test comeback. With his current confidence, I think Kohli should draft him into the 11 without question. He can really contribute as an opener in overseas conditions.

With the red swinging ball, I doubt Rahul's skills as an opener. It should have been Prithvi Shaw in the whites. And I hope they don't force Gill as an opener on debut.

Edit: just saw the test team announcement, Shaw is in.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pandey is not a T20 player, neither is Dhawan. Both of them are more suited for the 50 over format as they cannot hit out when needed. All your batters in T20s should have the ability to clear the boundary.

Based on what?

In test matches, he averages 30 outside India. He averages 20 in Australia, 30 in England & 8 in South Africa. He has been given a hell of a lot of chances & is a dud.

Luckily, selectors also seem to know this - he hasn't been included in the test squad.

I know he has had his share of ups and downs. But I think the Rahul we see today has learnt to adapt and is confident. His 110 vs Aus and 158 vs WI were great innings. I've no doubt that he'll force his way back in to the test side sooner or later.

Far more than his fair share of chances. 36 tests. That's a hell of a lot of tests.

By giving him more chances you are blocking others who may prove themselves withing 36 tests.
