  • 2005 Ashes final test
  • 2001 Ind Aus 2nd and 3rd Tests
  • Aus Vs SA 434 wala chase
  • 1999 India Pak in Chennai
  • 1996 WC QF against Pakistan
  • 2011 WC Final
  • Champions Trophy Final Ind v Eng
  • India Vs Pakistan - Hrishikesh Kanitkar four
  • Natwest Trophy Final - Yuvi, Kaif
  • VVS Last wicket victory 2010 vs Australia
  • Sachin defending 6 in the last over - Hero Cup
  • SL beating SA earlier this year - Kusal Perera 153*
You can include this match also. This was during India tour of South Africa in 2010 where SA needed about 4 runs to win with 2 wickets and plenty of overs to spare. I think Munaf Patel was the bowler. India went on to win the match.

Plus who can forget the famous sandstrom in Sharjah where Sachin played a blinder to lead India to victory in the finals of 1998 Coco Cola tri nation tournament.

Apart from the above, The most memorable matches for me are...
  • 2016 T20 world cup QF Ind Vs Ban at Chinnaswamy stadium
  • Sachin's two Desert storm matches Vs Aus in Sharjah-This takes the top spot IMO.
  • 2007 T20 world cup Ind Vs Eng. Yuvi's 666666
  • Titan cup match in Bengaluru. Kumble and Srinath's innings in Bangalore
  • Kumble's 10-wicket match. Pak were 100 odd for no loss and looked like winning
  • 1999 World cup semifinals SA Vs Aus. Donald-Klusener run-out

Re: The Cricket Thread

Adding to the list is an insignificant match from 1992 WC, between Aus & India. It had the ingredients of a thriller - frantic commentary from Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Tony Greig being excited as ever; panic running from Indian tailenders, misfields, drop catches under pressure, pitch invasion by spectators and the idiotic rain rule of 1992 WC.

If I remember right, India were to get 4 from the last ball. Srinath heaved, Steve Waugh dropped a catch near boundary & fumbled. By then Srinath & Raju had run 2. They were coming back for 3rd, to tie the match. But throw from Waugh from good & Boon whipped the bails. Australia won by 1 run.

This match: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...ld-cup-1991-92

Note: Video of last over - (click on the title).

The thing missing in this video is that after Srinath hit the ball, Raju thought that the ball had gone for a six. So he went over and stopped to congratulate Srinath. Srinath told him to keep running. The time lost there proved costly.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So 2 long pending steps in a single day. Hoping this will fix things for once and all. Clearly Virat is carrying too much power and influence. Secondly, time to get rid of current coach and get some body like Gary Kirsten.

Is BCCI mulling split captaincy between Virat Kohli and Rohi ..

BCCI to invite fresh applications for support staff

My all time favorite is the first Test Faf du Plessis played. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...tralia-2012-13

+RSA had to chase 430 in about 4.5 session or bat it out.
+Played from 4/77 overnight to 8/248
+Faf du Plessis got 110*(376)
+AB de Villiers gor 33(220)
+An injured Jacques Kallis for 46(110)

I though I'll never see a tough battle like that, but Pujara is incredible in defending his way through and grinding bowlers to dirt. Barring Pujara, I doubt any test batsmen have the skills to pull of a draw like that today.

I would include these also

1. India vs Australia T20 World Cup Quarterfinal Kohli 82*

2. India vs Pakistan Asia Cup; Kohli 49

3. India vs South Africa 2018 3rd Test, when India played without any spinners

4. India vs SriLanka CB Triangular series, a virtual knockout match

5. India vs Bangladesh Nidahas Trophy finals

More recent ones:

6. India vs NewZealand semifinals this world cup

7. West Indies vs New Zealand group stage match

Etc.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Read this news article in CricketNext about giving the Captain and Coach to decide wives and girlfriends visits outside approved period on tours. It does not sound fair when the Captain is the one making the decision since he is very much part of the squad.

Quote:
In a major change in policy decisions implemented by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) recently, the Indian team’s captain and head coach now have the power to allow or disallow visits from wives and partners (WAGs) of members from the playing squad on overseas tours.

For the first time this power has been passed on to the captain and coach because only the BCCI management used to take a call on approval of such matters.

“The issue whether the authority to approve any visits from visitors outside the Visitor Period should vest with the Team India captain and Coach or with BCCI management was discussed. It was noted that the BCCI management had traditionally decided these matters. It was also noted that the BCCI Constitution requires cricketing and non-cricketing matters are to be kept separate,” the CoA noted in the minutes of the meeting on May 21 posted on BCCI website.

If Kohli doesn't decide, they a thing won't move in BCCI. After Dalmiya & Srinivasan, Kohli is the current kingpin.

On wives, they were allowed during overseas tests. Kohli changed it to overseas ODI, T20 series too.

On girlfriends, there was no mentioned of girlfriends in BCCI overseas tests diktat. It was only wives. Kohli changed it when he was going steady (before his wedding).
