IIRC, it was the 3rd match of the 5 match final series between NZ & Aus at the Benson & Hedges World Cup. NZ needed 7 runs of the last ball of the match. Greg Chappell ordered his brother Trevor Chappell to stop Brian from scoring a 6 and possibly tie the match. Infact, that ball was supposed to be a no ball IIRC since there was some discrepancy in the fielding restrictions and Aus had cheated there too. I remember my coach showing us some interesting clips from yester years and this was one of them.

There was another incident when T20 was introduced newly where Glen McGrath pretended to bowl an under arm ball and got red carded. Yes, the umpires used to show cards that time.

Isn't it against the rules to bowl like that?

It wasn't back then. Later in 2000 the rule was changed and underarm bowling was banned. Now the rule states that there should compulsory be a full rotation of the arm. Infact, there is a degree within which one has to swing his arm. If your delivery action is in such a way that the inclination of your arm is off the stipulated degree the ball is considered as a NO Ball and the bowler is noted for chucking.

I am imagining world XI team consisting of only hard hitting batsmen who are part time bowlers or can also bowl should be able to chase any score. Say like a team consisting of:
1. Jayasuria.
2. Gilchrist.
3. Sehwag.
4. Gibbs.
5. Sachin.
6. Gayle.
7. Symonds.
8. Flintoff.
9. Pieterson.
10. Mascharenhas.
11. Afridi.

Amongst these 11 they should be able to bowl pretty decently, but the fact that they could chase almost any score is appealing. Hope there is a batsmen XI V/s bowlers XI played.
My reserves would include an Oram like shuvc said and maybe even Justin Kemp. That man Gibbs. He is a freakish character. One moment there is talk of dropping him, the other he makes the impossible look ridiculously easy.

Looking forward to our first match. Fresh pair of legs and some hitting power makes the team look good on paper. Bowling is a serious concern though. They simply have to fire in a lot of yorkers and try something different.

Rahul dravid to quit captaincy and will not play against the aussies.

Now guess its saurav back as the captain as well unless dhoni has a good world cup as captain.

Its shocking yes. But I also prayed he step down. Its good decision. At least now he can concentrate on the game. For everything the team does, he was getting pulled. Of course, he is captain. But everybody in the team needs to contribute to win a match and that was not happening from the time he took as captain. Now that the responsibility is gone, he can concentrate on his game.

Hope the selectors will not pass on the mantle to Ganguly. They need yound blood and hope they will make a younger player captain maybe Karthik.....

Great news!!! Mr.Dravid didn't have any qualities of a Captain!

We need a Captain who is aggresive and a good motivator like Sourav Ganguly!

It will be nice to see the boys under the leadership of Ganguly. I don't think any other Indian captain has come to as close as being aggressive and experimental as Saurav has. We require a dictator to man our players and IMO there is no one else who can do that.

I don't think Dravid will miss the tour against the Aussies. It is the most important tour for the Indian's. And he is never a quitter.

The transition stage has begun. It is time for a new captain. Ganguly would be a stop gap choice. We need him more than ever as a player, same applies to Dravid as well. We play the aussies on their turf later in the year and we will need all their batting experience.

But who? Dhoni, Yuvy...? Colonel Vengsarkar & Co. hold all the answers...

This is my guess........what Vengsarkar & Co. might think
Dhoni......for ODI's.
Sachin/Ganguly.......for Tests.

If they make Dhoni.....as it is he is out of form.......and if they make him captain, then a lot or pressure would come on him and he will also not play his natural game.

I personally feel they should not appoint any seniors as captain as they will be retiring in next couple of years.

Although I would like to know what was the real reason Dravid quit as Captain.
