He was the captain of WC winning U19 team + he was signed by RCB. That makes him star at some level

BTW, can humility be taught & learnt now? I guess experience is the best teacher (look at how Maharaj Ganguly in 1991 became Dada by 1996).

He already thinks he is a star. No doubt a good player but attitude wise is found lacking.
Ricky Ponting was a bigger brat. Look at him after being a captain.

Agreed. But good or bad, that is the only benchmark we have to judge form and fitness.

I am not advocating VK's inclusion. I personally think he needs a season or two under his belt. I am speculating what might happen.

Ricky Ponting and Virat? Oh please man...

Ricky can afford too, Virat not yet.

Also the attitude what Ricky Ponting has is way different from what Virat is known to display.

PS: I admire his talent on the field - a very good fielder too.

If Balaji plays this test, it will be purely on the whims of M/S Srikant and company.

He has not shown any sort of spark while bowling but he retains his spot in the team. The other option is Munaf Patel.

I would go with Dhawal Kulkarni because he is in red hot form now. Throw him into the water - lets see how he swims. He cannot be much worse than Munaf or Balaji !

Yeah, Balaji does not look very potent and Munaf is a tragedy. I still don't know whats keeping him in the side.

Who was that guy in the Kolkatta team ? Bowled at a decent pace and swung the ball too.

That was Ashok Dinda. And he was in the news recently for getting into a fight with his team mate Ranadeep Bose

All these years am waiting for someone like a Shoiab or Lee to emerge from Indian bowling ranks. Still noone. Ishant can hit the mid forties and occasionally 150kmph but noone like consistently bowling 150kmph -155kmph.
I wonder why India cant produce anyone like this.

Balaji had an excellent domestic season, just he didnt do well in the solitary one day he played, but that does not make him bad enough to be thrown out.

But he was languishing in the sidelines, after coming back from injury, until Chika came along and pulled him aboard. Chika also pulled M Vijay out of his hat, meaning curtains to Jaffer(for the moment, at least) but left Badrinath out in the cold. Not consistent, this Chika guy.

If India can persist with someone like Mr Wicketless VRV Singh, I hope they give Dhaval a chance too, but the reality might be that he will be no more than a passenger on this tour.

Just saw few balls and got a feeling that 300 runs will hard to get for our batsmen to take any lead.If we batted than we perhaps not even close to what NZ scored rt now.

New Zealand 279 and India 29/0 (7.0 ov)

Now, Sehwag 22 off 18 with 5 fours and SR is 122.22
I am getting up tomorrow at 3:30 AM

Me too will get up. Lets see, I hope we bring India luck. It will be lovely if Dravid plays a biggie (in terms of runs ) tomorrow.

India had NZ off the hook again. They were around 60/5 till the time i was watching the match and now i read they made 279. Well not a good effort.
If people are thinking there are demons in the pitch or lot of grass then that was not the case. It was just excellent bowling display by Zak and Ishant(he was damn good actually).
I feel chasing 250+ will be highly tough here so India needs a lead of atleast a 100 in first innings.

And ya i dont need to wake up at 3 to watch the match as i sleep only at 5am and by that time if Sehwag will be batting then its a treat
