Who knows may be Aussies will come bat hammer and tongs for 10 overs, score around 100-150 and ask India to bat 10 overs today and rest of the day tomorrow.

You can really think a draw with our fab King and Hitman still in the team. :|

Re: The Cricket Thread

With the Aussies being 1 bowler short in Josh, I wonder if they want to enforce the follow on. Will be interesting to see how long the last wicket pair lasts. Sending Siraj ahead of Bumrah and Akash was baffling.

I’m counting more on rain and Hazlewoods unavailability

Not happening

We’re just 1 wicket away from being asked to bat again! In the most unlikely event we get get another 25 runs, it’ll be Australia batting soon.

Also, remember that 30-50 overs is usually enough for India to get all out, so this is Aus Vs Rain, time and play permitting it is their game!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Bumrah and Akashdeep look more comfortable at the crease than Rohit and Kohli

Take a bow you both, you might have just saved us the match. Win probability sure agrees and a draw seems to be very likely hereon.

Man, Akashdeep is showing some solid skills. What a six. Kohli's reaction to the shot was priceless : Oh Ben-Stokes

Re: The Cricket Thread

Cummins and Starc look drained. Don’t think they will enforce the follow on.

Re: The Cricket Thread

And like last few years the lower order bails us out with Jadeja. Knowing our top order I will only take a sigh of relief after the day is called off tomorrow.

Also Kohli please show that aggression in batting and make some runs.

One of the best comments today!

I understand your sentiment about Vihari but there is no way you can term Shreyas Iyer as 'could have been great test cricketer'. The guy always suffers from back spasm and cannot play bouncers! He has not even established himself in ODI cricket even though he made his debut more than 7 years back!

Re: The Cricket Thread

The ideal scenario for India would have been for the follow-on to be enforced & bat on till tomorrow evening, make sure to keep Starc & Cummins on the field (Hazelwood already ruled out)! Offcourse there's no guarantee that our batsman playing their million dollar shots would have survived.

It was comical to see both Virat & Rohit (both averaging 9 in the first innings this season) celebrating avoiding the follow-on. They both should be ashamed that the 3rd highest run-scorer in the team was no.11 !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kudos to the way Akash and Bumrah batted.

Will be interesting to see Australia's approach tomorrow when they bat.

Will they play out the day hoping that McSweeny and Khwaja play themselves into form? Or will they push for a win knowing fully that they are a bowler short and rain might reduce play eventually anyway.

Hanuma Vihari was a strokeless batter, while Shreyas and KL are the backbone of the Indian ODI team's middle order. I expect them both to play and succeed in the Champions trophy.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Watching the team celebrate avoiding the follow-on as though they've won the test match, was quite telling, honestly.

Virat and Rohit need to be "rested" in my humble opinion.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So Jaiswal + Gill + Kohli + Pant + Rohit managed 27 runs combined amongst themselves and number 11 Akashdeep has scored 27 runs by himself. It's almost farcical at this point.

Well done KL, Jaddu, Bumrah & Akash to at least avoid the follow on.

My dad was reminded of the 80's & 90's when Indian players and fans alike would celebrate avoiding the follow on. The story of Kapil Dev whacking consecutive sixes to avoid the follow on is almost legendary now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Unless Aussies bowl out India within the first 30mins tomorrow and come out guns blazing setting around 350 in 70 overs, the match will be a draw.

Unless they decide to grind Indian bowlers in which case I'd recommend Kohli and Sharma bowling to the Aussie batters. At least they can be useful somehow.

PS: Brisbane has 60% chances of rain tomorrow as well.

Indian batting hasn’t survived 70 overs in the last few tests consistently (aside from the rare good inning of batting).
Clearly Australia cannot lose from here, it’s only the playing time available that will decide if India lose or draw this game.
