Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks like Gambhir is clouded with IPL exploits of the players, another drubbing on the cards. And now there is a talk to drop Bumrah, Play him on spin friendly tracks and drop him on pace friendly ones, what a strategy, if its done.

The 22-year-old Delhi fast bowler, Harshit Rana, who impressed in the ongoing season with both ball and bat, is likely to make his Test debut on Friday.

Don't think Bumrah was as effective as NZ pace bowlers even when the pitch helped with new ball. He may be rested I think keeping in mind Australia series.

Came here to post this. Harshit has actually done well in his short Ranji career of 10 matches. He has 43 wickets at an average of 24, and averages 42 with the bat with a high score of 122.

Gambhir is actually playing Harshit to assist Ashwin, Jadeja & Sundar........in batting

He will come as a batsman or a bowler or a batting allrounder or a bowling allrounder. I think he doesn’t fit anywhere at this moment with such a short span career. If he’s that good, pls cook him for few years in domestic circuit and let him score runs in tons and take wickets in bundles, then yes may be he deserves a call. But just filling jack of all master of none in the team, it seems to me a T-20 strategy being pasted in test format.

Only 10 Ranji games over a span of 2 years and scoring merely 469 runs doesn’t entitle him to get a spot in test team. That’s my opinion, it’s a very very small sample space to get a test call. Or is it a KKR effect. He did the same with Navdeep Saini and today he’s no where to be seen.

Anyway fingers crossed and hope he will be the next Ian Botham or a better version of Kallis.

As much as I love Tendulkar, he too stayed on longer than required. It's a known issue with top sportsmen in every field. The drive and competitive spirit that makes them top their field also makes it hard for them to see that they have declined physically and are now blocking another talented youngster.

With our cricket team it's compounded because of the hero worship, general culture of respecting seniors, avoiding confrontation, and further complicated by the sheer branding clout a cricketing superstar has for advertisers who ultimately bring in the revenue.

Again, as much as I dislike Gambhir, I think he won't be the kind of man to shy away from taking hard decisions for too long. Fingers crossed.

Hope we have more exceptions to this like Gavaskar, Dravid, Kumble etc

Kohli has 2 centuries in 33 tests and none since 2020. He himself should be seeing the writing on the wall. He seems busy with readying his cricket afterlife?

He is GOAT. The next Kohli masterclass is just round the corner. We just have to be patient.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Team India’s strategy is to prepare a rank turner for the Mumbai test at Wankhede.

Link

Despite proving beyond any doubt whatsoever that we cannot play spin, now this! Suicidal or what, probably heading for a 0-3 defeat!

Oh wow this is some interesting move when the history of Wankhede pitch has favored seamers on first 2 days, they want to prepare rank turners. This is clearly digging their own graves !!

And one thing is perplexing, why Harshit Rana is called then ? Will he support the spin department. Looks 3-0 is a near possibility.

Would be an interesting match to follow anyhow

Oh man!

Looks like they are again banking on winning the toss. They deserve to get whitewashed here as well as in Australia for going in with this kind of mindset.

At one point in time, Wankhede had the most sporting pitch in the country. The Seamers liked the extra carry & good spinners took wickets later on in the game. But thanks to too much interference from the Management, now its reduced to a rank-turner or a dust-bowl!

He isn't added to the Squad apparently. He's only been called up to bowl in the nets!

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think we will win this one.
And I hope Axar plays the game.
If it's a rank turner we don't need 2 pacers. In fact play all spinners and set a precedent

Good Bumrah is rested. He was ineffective in both games and honestly his need comes out of India as on Indian wickets too many options are available and he should be managed carefully.

Well you and me did but brain dead team management again played Siraj who is a waste of space and has done nothing. 80 wickets in 31 test matches with an average of 31 is a terrible record for a fast bowler, especially when he has played mostly outside India on helpful wickets. How is he still getting selected is beyond me.
