Re: The Cricket Thread

Previously, there were very few examples when players got a chance for more than a year to prove their skills. Great players were just dumped by selectors. I don't see any such calibre talents now among this lot to get an extended run of 3–4 years. It is clearly a lack of competitive test cricket which has led to this situation.

Reserves:

Coach: Ashish Nehra
I mostly agree with this except for Shami and Axar.
- Both Jadeja and Axar are similar kinds but Jadeja is superior
- Shami is not a T20 bowler in my books :-)

Would have Nehraji as Assistant Coach to Shastri :-0.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So nice for players to take rest when they don't perform !

Even in situations lacking pressure like in IPL, Kohli was out of his sorts in T20s. Hope he retires from T20 and ODI and see what he can do in Tests.

Hardik should play all forms. He is poor man's Ben Stokes.

Meanwhile, Srilanka decimated Australia in the second test.

Many Aussies were trying to sweep their way out in their second innings and were easy pickings for the 3 lankan spinners. Chandimal raced from 150 to 200 with the last man for company. Jayasuriya had a dream debut by picking 12 wickets in the match.

He did give a grand performance in the test match - ask Bairstow

On a serious note, I think the inner frustration is coming out as those antics.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Remarkable T20 series win for India! I certainly did not expect it. The proactive approach in being aggressive caught everyone by surprise. Not sure whats wrong with the English team. They were well below par!

He only excels in 1 role - Finisher. He may not be ideal in other situations, atleast thats what the team management thinks else they wouldn't have promoted Axar ahead of DK!

And you guys think that Hooda is ready for Australia? I would rather have Samson in my team.
Hooda would have been ideal instead of Shreyas in the 3rd T20, especially at no.5 position. He can also chip in & bowl a few overs. Not sure if India will tour SA to complete the T20 series, but Australian conditions can only be somewhat replicated there!

This is what happens when you select someone for the senior team straight away after 1 decent IPL! He should ideally have been part of 'A' tours which have now completely stopped since Covid. Btw, its good to see Umesh Yadav playing County Cricket.

If I am right, Kohli last played a Ranji match in Nov 2012, 10 years back. This was the match - https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...full-scorecard

Will he play domestic cricket? Unlikely. He is a too big personality. He might get an administrative post in BCCI.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli might not play the first ODI due to a groin strain/ injury.

Australia, in the first innings, despite having two centurions in Labuschagne and Smith, didn't get 400+ and Sri Lankan fightback was superb with Chandimal getting a double century and 4 other batsmen making 50+ and getting to 500+ made all the difference - real team effort. And with Prabath Jayasuriya getting 6 wickets each in both innings they went on to win incredibly with Australia crashing to 150 odd in their second

Re: The Cricket Thread

If only we had the same conditions and bowling enthusiasm in the last innings.

Sigh. Could have captured the bastion that is England.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Thanks to Kohli's injury. Had he been fit who knows he could've riled up Bairstow and Buttler for a century each and eaten away 10 to 20 balls for his single digit score. Thus without him it is a complete ODI match for India.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rohit Sharma is a different player when he partners with Dhawan

Bhumrah is going to another level in pace bowling. Arguably the best fast bowler in world cricket across formats.

Virat Kohli. Hope the champ gets back in form soon. 33 is way too young for such an athletic player. Not a fan of his antics but always loved watching him play.

Re: The Cricket Thread

WI T20 Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.

KL Rahul and Kuldeep are subject to fitness.

Kohli and Bumrah rested. Kohli must be seriously tired from making 100 after 100.

How does Iyer keep getting selected and Samson keep getting ignored is beyond me. Iyer can't play pace and short balls and Samson can smash them nicely. Idiot selectors.

And what is Ashwin doing in T20 again when these guys explicitly said he is in no plans for World cup.

He does pretty well in the IPL. Other than fielding (he is below average there), don't see why he shouldn't be in the T20 plans.

I am seeing formulaic approach rather than a flexible strategy of making the best user of all the available resources.

Kohli - given his reactions to his dismissals of late, he is not thinking ahead but rather is waiting like a bunny in the car headlights for something to come off. His head is not in the right place. Should take 2-3 month break , enjoy himself. Probably play only gully cricket or 6 a side games so the enjoyment comes back.
