Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Friend - Why is it written 4x4 on some cars?
Me - In these cars, all 4 wheels are given sufficient power to take on rough terrain.
Friend - All cars run on 4 wheels, then why is it not written on all?
Me - BEEEEEEEPPPPPPP.!

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

This happened when I was in my 12th ( read long long ago so long ago etc , my friend 'explained' to me why the RX100 was faster than a CD100. It was because of the smoke. In other words he was into some sort of propulsion system, actually rocket science. I did not say a word but let him talk. Cheap entertainment. .

Ofcourse, I have heard a lot more experts talk over the years. Considering my memory or lack of it, this has to be one of the best if I can remember right now!

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

@YaeJay: We had a Kinetic Y2K some years back which used to emit loads of smoke. I used to make fun of that saying that the vehicle moves forward just because of the smoke it emits - same as you have told - rocket propulsion.

Hope my words were taken as just a joke!!!

A friend recently test drove a Linea Tjet,he was all Ga ga about the car, what pick up\acceleration and all.
And all this while he was thinking, that he had a driven a diesel linea
i had a tough time convincing him that Tjet is a petrol.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

This particular incident happened way back, when we were small kids. It was our first time out in a rented car, which was a black Amby, huge for our sizes back then. During one of our conversations where kids usually brag about things they know, I asked my bro if he knew how the car picks up speed. He replied, "Oh, I know that. Every time the driver flicks the steering a little to the right, the car accelerates!"

I was watching the parliament channel a few years ago. Some member was demanding that the government ban big vehicles such as the Somu and Shera from the roads because the roads are too narrow to allow these vehicles to pass through.

It was only later I realized he was making a reference to the Sumo and Sierra. I still remember that remark every time I see a Sumo or a Sierra.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Years, ago, when i was a kid, a friend came up to me and told me that they sold their Premier Padmini for 1 crore.

Another one, a friends uncle had a LHD Chevy Nova,he used to boast that Chevy at 60km\hr is equivalent to Fiats 140km\hr,i agree about Chevy's unit being MPH,but still

and the last one.
Around 8-9 years ago,i overheard two guys talking, royal enfield is slow because its 350cc,see a splendor is faster than it because its 100cc.
Suddenly a third guy standing besides interuppted and said, going by your theory, the 50cc Luna should fly
the look on their faces was priceless.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

This happend about 5 years ago. We had finished our semester exams and were on a trip down to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. This coincided with the bikers weekend where thousands of bikers all over the US drive down with their harleys and custom designed bikes.

My roommate being the ignorant sorts about bikes yelled out:

"Hey look out I havent seen so many bullets together ever in my life"

When we visited Darjeeling and those areas, people still refer to the Sumo as Somu. 'Somu gaadi hain sir'

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Non-petrol head friend who has booked a vento tdi: I might travel to Australia for an on-site assignment, can VW change the steering from right to left after delivery?
Another friend of mine (sarcastically): ask them to put it right in the middle so you can drive in any country.

I don't know what to say?! Australia is RHD. But that's not the point. Changing the steering?phew

Wow!!! Someone wants to carry his car to Australia! Wouldn't he have to pay extra for the extra luggage?

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

A petrolhead biker friend of mine first gets tubeless tires in his bike karizma, and then converts them to tube type tires , saying that the puncture for tubeless is expensive, even after explaining that in 2 years of running tubeless tires in my pulsar, i have not had a single puncture, he still fails to understand.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

I happened to watch a scene in Teknic motors in ORR recently, when i took my electra for a minor fix.

one Guy came to the service center to fix some problems in his TBTS.

Below was the conversation between the mechanic and the guy.

The Mech : sir, tell me the problems in your bike[with a job card in hand]
The Guy : I have 2 problems and want to get it fixed immediately
The Mech : Yes Sir, i will do it. What are those problem's?
The Guy : problem 1 : Fuel Tap is leaking.
problem 2 : very poor mileage after the fuel tap started leaking.
The Mech[with his red face] : Sir , How will you get good mileage when fuel tap is leaking.
The Guy : No Answer !!!!?????

It made my morning with a smile.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

A few I came accross

During my school days
friend 1 : My kinetic hinda (4 stroke) is delivering very poor mileage
friend 2 : add more oil (2T oil) which in turn will deliver a good mileage
friend 1 : How?
friend 2 : adding oil will make slow and steady combustion, so it will give good mileage

Another incident (with my other group of friends)
friend 1 : what is the difference between normal petrol and xtra premium petrol? why does it costs more?
friend 2 : because oil (again 2T oil) is added to the petrol
friend 3 : no no, it is the pure petrol, and normal petrol is not so pure.
myself : dude, xtra premium petrols have high octane number
friend 1 : what is that?
friend 3 (before I start explaining) : I told you na, that is the purity scale
