Folks,

I did exactly the same as what Karthik has mentioned above. This was sometime in May-Jun this year. My son was almost 1.5 years old then. Did all this in a hurry when I needed a passport for my son! Otherwise, may be I'd have waited until he joins school...

I faced absolutely no issues, I went and collected the 5 copies on the confirmed date. There was a small queue but no bribe whatsoever.

It is better to collect multiple copies of the birth certificate in one go. The minimum price per application is Rs.100/- every additional copy therein attracts a very nominal sum (Rs 140 for 5 copies). Better to get more copies & avoid the hassle of going to upparpet and find parking et al.

Re: Birth Certificate Help

I got my daughter's birth certificate issued on 16th Dec 2013. She was born on 11th Dec 2013. We were told that if we have the name decided by then we would get a hand written Gujarati Birth Certificate on the spot and we can apply for a English one there and then which would be made available to us after ~5 days. So i went there on 16th Dec morning withe the discharge letter from the hospital and i was out in flat 5 mins with a Hand Written, signed and stampped Certificate of Birth with name written.

The person there told me to submit 2 photo copies of the Gujrati Birth Certificate and made me fill up a form with all details in English. We did that and on 23th Dec 2013 I went there again and collected the English Birth Certificate.

It was a fairly simple process. No Bribes. No under the table nothing. The fee for English was ₹50/- which is also printed on the Birth Certificate and out of gesture i tipped that person ₹100/- as he was very kind, soft spoken and helpful.

Regards,

Re: Birth Certificate Help

Hi all,

The last weekend got a birth certificate for my 1 month old daughter, from the BMC R-North ward office.

I must say, i was impressed by their functioning and the staff courtesy.

Process followed was ::
1. fill up a form
2. Pay the fee (this is a single window counter). 122 INR for 5 copies.
3. The lady on the counter reads your form
4. On her computer she finds the record which was sent by the hospital at the time of birth
5. Enters the Child name & simply prints the birth certificate.
6. We collect it from the printer and get it signed by the Sub-Registrar.

We are in and out of the BMC office in 20 minutes flat.

It is really worth appreciating every good service done by the Indian Authorities, who we so easily tar in bad name.

Thank you BMC for this good experience and my daughter's birth certificate.

Regards

Re: Birth Certificate Help - for my mom

Hey guys, I'm new here and don't know if I should start a new thread with the same topic or ask questions here itself, since this is quite and old thread.

So, anyways I would like to know how I should apply for my moms birth certificate. She was born in 1953, so online records may not be available. She was born in Mumbai Central and I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I'd be really grateful if you guys can help or know an agent who can help with this.

@ Mods: Please move this thread as appropriate.

Thanks

Re: Birth Certificate Help - for my mom

I do not understand why you guys cannot see beyond online records, which in any case are a very recent development. Records of all sorts i.e. census, treasury, revenue, legal etc have been maintained since eons on paper.

You simply have to apply at the local municipality office (department of births & death) where your mother was born in case she was born in a city or in case of village at the local gram panchayat or the local taluka office that governs the village.

In case she was indeed born in a city and in a hospital, then that is the place to start. The hospital will issue a certificate per their records on the basis of which the local municipal office will do the needful.

This is a simple procedure and there is no need for an agent unless you are really pressed for time and cannot do a bit of running around.

Re: Birth Certificate Help - Bangalore - Ulsoor

Hi

I had a baby in Cloud Nine Old Airport Road and they have given me the birth certificate which does not have the baby name (Expected me to keep the name on second day )

So I was told by them that i can make additions by visiting Ulsoor Office, but they fail to provide any more information.

Has any one here know about Bangalore, especially Ulsoor Office How to edit the birth certificate ?

INFO For others: Bangalore One centers can help you get fresh Birth certificates issued. One can try this option as well. But they told me that they cant edit existing birth certificates

It is a pretty simple process actually. Take the certificate you have, Visit the office and tell them that you need to get the name added and they will almost do it immediately if the signing officer is available, else they will give you a date when you can collect it. Go to the help centre at the office, I don't think any forms are to be filled either, but if it needs to be they would be available there itself. Total cost should be less than Rs.150.

Go on a Wednesday or Thursday if you can, that is when they are less crowded

Ideally, the hospital should have given you the address, if they have not, I suggest you call them and ask them for the address. Unfortunately, I do not know where it is in Ulsoor and I hope it is not the ration card place, that place gives me nightmares

My son was also born in cloudnine, but that was in Jayanagar and I had to go to padmanabhanagar BBMP office, the hospital gave me the address.

Is your Birth Certificate is from BBMP or From Cloud Nine. At the time of birth they only give Cloud 9. They will ask you to sign Birth and Death registration form (Don't remember which one, I think Form F110). BBMP certificate usually takes 7 to 15 days. If you have BBMP certificate, you can go to any BBMP office nearer to you (home or office) with old certificate and you can append the details.

If you have Cloude Nine certificate then approach any BBMP office with Filled F110. You should get certificate in 7 days.

Thanks, I have the BBMP one. They gave a certificate and it took around a month + for them to get the Birth certificate which has all the details correctly except for the Baby name.

I will check with them on the exact address. All their front desk says is go to Ulsoor office and they do it

Ulsoor has lots of offices like Ration card, Health officer etc. And i dont want to run around in that area !! which is why i wanted to know what might be the exact location

So can I go to any BBMP office ? I mean they have a central server ?

I would term this as unfortunate from a top class corporate hospital. Absolute callousness.
Why would they try to register the kid without a name ? Illogical !!

My kid was born in Apollo, Bannerghata Road.
They gave me a slip with various details.
Told me to go to any of the BBMP Offices and produce the slip.
Fill in a Govt. Form. Pay the fees for the number of BC I want.
Go at the designated time given to collect the BC from them.

BC should be done in a BBMP Office.
There would be various departments like Ration Card, Health, Birth and Death Register within the BBMP Office.
You need to go to the right department within the BBMP Office.
I am more than sure that the birth and deaths register is a centralized one across the state (not country).
So you could visit any BBMP office which is nearby your residence to get the name added.

Apologies, even I am not sure of the exact location of the BBMP office in Ulsoor.

Last year I remember they announced that many information can be obtained by any BBMP office. Its been centralized. One of them is B & D certificate.

@Soumyajit9: Usually Cloud9 says to fill Form 110 with Baby name. But many people I know have a custom that baby name is set after 9 days. So they can't force anyone to make it mandatory fearing hurting religious sentimental (You know how it is in India).

Re: Birth Certificate Help

Thanks alot guys, @RaguHolla, @Soumyajit9, @dass

I thought of trying the mid week and it was a very smooth process. Hardly took 10 mins and a very easy process of just filling a small slip like form.

Some Observations:
Noticed few people arguing, begging etc for corrections. With some common sense one could avoid all these.

Most of the hospitals have now made it mandatory to submit the registration forms. Make sure the parents names are absolutely fine. If there is mismatch with respect to passport or other govt documents, it might be painful to correct it.
