I like it for flawless rendition and powerful voice of Mohammad Rafi.
Was listening to this on the internet. But it did give out the same fun as it used to when it played on the radio.

Times they are changing!

Re: 1950's, 60's and 70's Hindi songs?

My first introduction to Hindi songs were through my mother. She used to love to play the radio - it was a wonderful radio to - a Seimens Tube Radio. I think it was called CK40. Nice beige front panel in a teak wood cabinet and dials for tuning, volume control and a great lit panel in front

My first song i remember listening was
Awaaz De Kahan Hein from Anmol Ghadi. I think the singer was Noorjahan and she had an amazing voice - just like glass.

The other song which got drilled in was
Afsana Likh Rahi Hun from Dard by Umadevi. Incidentally a lot of us know her as Tun Tun
And we used to tune into Radio Ceylon for Ameer Sayani. What a voice he had - silky and it was 30 minutes of pure bliss to listen to Binaca Geet Mala

More than Ceylon it was AIR for me. A fierce ally for those late night studies! Still remember the timings! Not to mention the AIR Urdu Service!

My fav from this movie is Chal Akela by Mukesh.

I consider it as one of his masterpieces.

If I remember correctly, it used to play old songs from 2:30 AM to 3:00 AM, that was my last station before sleep

Probably one of the rare famous song Mukesh sung for O. P. Nayyar, another that comes to my mind is Chehre Se Zaraa Aanchal from 'Ek bar muskara do'.
While O. P. Nayyar was monopolized by Rafi, these are some of the rare movies where Mukesh and Kishore Kumar sung for him and what memorable songs

Day used to start with "Bhule Bisre Geet" : 0705-0740 I think

After noon it was 1230 to 330. (Mainly 1430 to 1530). Vivid Bharati was alao very good at these times.

And then late night along with AIR and Vivid Bharati it used be 1030-1130 (I think it was called Tameel-i-Ershad)

I was not a fan of Binaca Geetmala. Simply because by the time I got to hear that, it was already airing new songs, while I was used to like ones from 40s/50s.

Coming back to old remembrances, I was thinking of music by N Dutta. (Especially a song by Lata from a movie called Black Cat)

EDIT: One song which never goes out of mind: Movie Oonche Log. Song: Jaag Dile Diwana.

Are you refering to Sitaare Raah Takate Hain Chale Aao Chale Aao from Black Cat?
For me, N Dutta was one of the most underrated music composer.
His Beete Din Yaad Dilate Ho sung by Ashaji from Dharamputra movie is my all time favourite.

Agreed! The other underrated one was SN Tripathi. Amazing compositions with Mukesh. Like Jhoomti Chali Hawa.

All the songs the movie "Dil Tera Deewana" (Shammi) and "Jab Pyaar Kise Se Hote Hai" (Dev Anand) and Asli Naqli (Dev)

But here are three of the lesser popular songs of these movies (superb in their own right)

Was watching an old clipping/video and this song clip played for an instant.

There was an instant recognition as its one of the favourites and not to mention Hemant Kumar!

Absolutely no difference to state of bliss you get to, whether you listen this way or that!

I always thought this one from Asli Naqli was one of the most underrated tunes ever made.

The composition and words are absolutely fabulous.

The Bangla one is a song for the ages.Trust almost every Bengali to know the song and humm it every once in a while. Hemant Kumar had that unique velvety texture to his voice which made listening to his songs an experience in itself. Two of my absolute favorites in Hindi from him:

Underrated yes! But I thought it did get its fair share of air play. There was one more from the same movie, which was rarely played. But lI oved it for its energy.

In fact if you see, most of Shankar Jaikishan composed movies had more than one belters. Hence many good songs ended up on the B-Side!

(I am not sure how many would remember the term B-Side songs! I am already feeling old!)

One more to that list from my side. (I think I would have mentioned this one more than once in this thread)

Some from a long-forgotten Sardar Malik composed film called Saranga (1961), which I was listening to earlier today. Lyrics are by Bharat Vyas.
