What it essentially means is that the appointment quota for Tatkaal are released only on 4.30 pm for Bangalore and will be on first come first serve basis. I tried logging in at 4.30 pm today and got a message that the site is under maintenance. Then installed the Passport seva app and logged in through that. Was able to get a tatkaal appointment for 25th Feb. Its still better than nothing.
Suggestion is to login at least 10 minutes before 4.30 and try your luck for getting an appointment in Tatkaal

I was just going to post an update. You beat me to it. I was trying from 4:15 too and found the site to be under maintenance. The site came up by 5 PM and I got the appointment for 25th Feb too. So now hoping for the best in terms of speed of processing.

I also called up their toll free number and got the clarification that they release available slots at 4:30 from Bangalore and hence that message.

As it turns out, they blamed me for not having checked the form and the details even though the PSK personnel typed in the address.

Advise to all: Please be very careful while checking details altered by PSK personnel in your application form at the PSK, Sign only when you've gone through everything.

The guy at the RPO where I had the appointment said to continue with the address which is printed (incorrect) since passport is proof of citizenship only. Since it is renewed every 10 years, addresses do not matter at all.

My residence is between two police stations and I chose the one which was closest to my place and submitted the application. I just realized that I had to select the other one as the residence comes under that PS jurisdiction. Called the passport help line, she mentioned that I can get it changed at the PSK on the date of the appointment. Anyone here have gone through this? This is for my wife and kid and hence I want to be very sure.

You can make corrections to the application at the counter A.

Don't worry even if you don't change the verification will go to the Police Station you chose and when you go there the cops will confirm if they can do it or will pass it to the Police Station where it actually belongs.

During my recent renewal, I had to visit 2 Police Stations. The one where I earlier stayed upon confirming my address said it actually belongs to another station (although last time I had still gone to the same Police station where I was now) and the cop said he will anyway check and if there is a change, I will get a call from that Police station and I may need to go there.

Nothing happened after this and verification was done at the same Police Station.

But yes, this can also be changed during your appointment. I had incorrectly mentioned PIN code of my previous address for present address and they changed this at Counter - A (or B) after acknowledgement from me.

I recently got the passport for my baby daughter (4 months) and thought of updating the details here incase if anybody needs it. I had booked the appointment through Tatkal for 19th feb. The documents needed were :

1. Appointment confirmation receipt (Not mandatory to take a printout. Showing the SMS on the phone is also enough).
2. Birth certificate (Mandatory doc. Original and a clear photocopy of the same - self attested)
3. Passport copy of both parents - (Mandatory doc. Original and clear photocopy of same - self attested). Atleast one of the parents passport should have the spouse name added. Else police verification will be initiated.
4. Annexure D.
5. Photo of the baby with a white background. (Mandatory. For babies < 5 years a photo needs to be carried).

Appointment was at 2:30 and I went in at 2:10. First they check the docs and give the token (which is same for everyone). No separate queue for infants. I had taken a printout of jpeg file of birth certificate. I was asked to get a clear copy of it. (The person verifying the docs there was very rude to all and I had to tell her to stop being rude. )
After that the process was very simple and faster too. Within 5 mins was sent to counter A where the fingerprint of the baby was taken along with scanning the photo. I had to get the address changed from mine to my inlaws house address (for ease of collecting passport) and was told that it will be done after approval from passport official in counter B. True to that word, the official sent me back to A to get it corrected post which the entire process went smooth. Got the sms while leaving that the passport was sent for printing and received it within 3 days.


Overall time taken was 1.5 hours. One good thing was they have a baby care rooms setup which was clean and neat as well it seems.

So I finished my appointment at the Lalbaug PSK, Bangalore yesterday. Since it was tatkaal, I felt that it took lesser time than the normal. My appointment was at 11 am for which my batch was let in at 11.30 and I was out at 1 pm.

Some pointers:

1. Ensure the copies with you are good quality/ clear photocopies. In my wife's case the passport copy was unclear so she was asked to get better copies, which resulted in a delay since the internal photocopier vendors are already crowded.
2. E-Aadhaar is not accepted. They insist to have the Original Aadhaar issued by UIDAI and copies of this for verification. Fortunately I took it along. (Even the small PVC card is not accepted) .
3. For Bank passbooks, please ensure there are also copies of the transaction pages. Only 1st page is not enough.
4. Tatkaal additional charges of Rs.2000/- is to be paid in Cash. No cards.
5. Token number issue and initial verification takes a bit of time. Subsequently Counter A (TCS capturing photos, fingerprint and data) was fast.
6. Counter B people are typical govt officials, who were able to speak only Tamil and English. I saw a person before me struggling since he knew only Kannada and Hindi and was not able to answer questions. I stepped in and translated for the Passport official.
7. Counter C is again fast, they just do verification against originals, revoke the old passport and send you on your way.
Within 1.5 hours of coming out, I got an SMS that my passport was sent for printing, subject to post Police verification. All in all, for an effort once in 10 years, it wasn’t too bad.

While I was editing my application on passport seva portal, selected tatkal option and it says annexure E is needed. Any idea what is this? Is this something must for Tatkal?

You can download the Annexure from the passport Seva site. It's just a self declaration that you are a citizen of India and that you dont have any criminal proceedings against you. Just download it, fill it by hand and submit along with your application.

Thanks. The passport seva kendra at Vashi has just been inaugurated. It is still not started due to lack of infrastructure and other reasons. It may probably start after elections.

Thanks for the response. I have change in name which falls under Major name change category. Document advisor on passport seva site is not showing the list of documents needed for tatkal. Does it mean major name change has to be through Normal?

I am not sure on this. But obviously you need to carry name change proof. Tatkal has got nothing to do with the required documents except annexure E. Whether Tatkal or whether Normal, you have to carry all your basic documents as mentioned with your application. Please note these are just bare minimum documents. For eg. If you have selected Aadhar for address proof then you can also submit Electric bill if it has your name and any other document. I had change of address and I provide three documents like Electric bill, Aadhar and wife's passport. The more docs, the merrier.

Regarding Tatkal, you cross all three sections faster in the passport office. (A, B, C) i.e. your number jumps up faster and you clear all the sections faster. Regarding police verification, they are going to take their own time irrespective of Tatkal.

For Tatkal you have to pay at the office in cash, I think its Rs. 2000.

Also note if you make any clerical mistake online like spelling mistake etc., you can inform the executive and they will make the change in the computer. After they feed in the details they show you all the details on the computer screen and you have to verify it.

Called passport seva helpline number and got to know that any major name change cannot be done through Tatkal service. This has to be done in Normal.
