Very true, but yet again, since I travel by 500 series from Banashankari, usually the buses are full during morning and evening hours. Now with BUS day, if they want to attract more passengers, they should surely set up additional buses. Otherwise, people would stay away from the buses for not being able to get into buses. I just hope the BMTC takes care of this.

No Shishir. As per my knowledge there is no bus from that point to Hosur Road/ EC. 201R comes till Madivala. :Frustrati

Alright people, let me be the first one to proudly declare that I took the bus today ! :)

I stay at Koramangala and work in Electronics City.

My house is at a walkable distance from the Koramangala Depot. So I decided to leave 10 minutes earlier than normal and reached the Depot.

At sharp 8:00 am, a Pushpak bus 356C started from the Depot and I boarded it to reach Electronics city in 45 minutes. The bus was practically empty at 8:00 to 8:45.

I would have preferred an AC volvo bus, but the Pushpak was not bad either.

The traffic was less on Hosur road, but that is mostly because the private vehicles are using the elevated expressway.

I support BMTC Bus Day. I think it is a step in the right direction. :thumbs up

I will definitely take the bus on the Bus Day every month. If possible, I would try to use the public transport one day of the week.

A few points that I have found to work for me, to sustain my use of public transport which may be useful for others as well
- I set a target for myself to take the bus atleast once a week on average. While there are weeks where taking the bus is not feasible for work/personal reasons, if something like that occurs, I try to make up for it the next week
- I live quite away from the bus route, so walking to the bus stop would add half an hour to my commute. So, I ride my motorcycle to a nearby point (HSR BDA complex) and park it there. Ideally, I would like to use my cycle for that, but the lack of security prevents me from doing that.

One thing that people should keep in mind is that bus will never match private transport in terms of comfort and timeliness (and sometimes cost). For example, my typical ride to office takes 25 minutes door to door, but by bus, it takes atleast an hour and the bus fare (25 rupees) is double my petrol expenses (15 rupees). But, while at an individual level, it may not make sense, I go ahead with the hope that it is all for the greater good.

I beg to differ with some of the points you mentioned.

BMTC Volvo buses are quite comfortable. They are air conditioned, have good seats and good suspensions. I do agree that the older buses are not that good.

Bus services are much cheaper if you compare it with running cost of a 4-wheeler. If you compare with a 2-wheeler, there may not be much difference.

The way I see it, commuting in bus is safer than 2-wheelers and cheaper than 4-wheelers.

Using public transport make even more sense for those who need to cover long distances, eg Whitefield to Electronics City. The savings in fuel cost and effort (if driving yourself) would definitely compensate for the slightly extra commute time.

I feel the things which prevent most people from using public transport are:
- the long walk to/from the nearest bus stop
- lack of parking space near these bus stops
- the long waiting time for the bus
- lack of direct bus available from source to destination

I take the bus 3 days out of 5 and today was a relevation. I travel 500C - DoddaNekundi - Marathahalli Junction. Walk till Marathahalli Bus Stop and mostly catch the 333 buses to Diamond District.

Due to the more number of buses I was in office in 40 mins. It usually takes an hour. With the 5-10 mins walk added.

Traffic was less and it was a breeze.

The only sore point is the signal at Pizza Hut and then at Maipal Hospital. But its more due to the idiotic brainless traffic cops who manually switch the signals.

I have not taken any Bus to communicate. I took my usual Bike to come office. But my observation was like this. From GM Palya(BEML Factory) to HOSUR ROAD (GHS) at 11 AM.

1. There was a lots of bus plying in the Route.
2. Almost all the Bus was empty. No standing passenger.
3. Huge traffic jam near Dell. Usual day it was not there.

Next time I will definitely try these bus service if they introduce a direct route. Even I will prefer for regular communicating to office.

I don't know if it was due to 'Bus Day', but today I reached Marathalli from Domulur without facing any traffic! All the traffic clog points: Manipal signal, Total signal and Old airport signal were traffic free! Really, the traffic was as if it was some weekend. It hardly took 10 mins to complete this stretch!
But the other side of the road was surely clogged, especially in front of the Total Mall.
