Thanks Naveen. For seafood, we used to greatly enjoy the seafood buffet by the Avenue Center, not sure if it is still there now. I think it was a Friday dinner only special. The desserts and cake slices from French Toast are really really good but I feel they are too rich. You cant eat more than a piece. For birthdays, Cake Hut cakes are the default choice now for us. We had been to the Grand Hyatt for my Mom's birthday dinner and they gave us a free chocolate cake to help celebrate the occassion. That was so divine that we decided that the next birthday cake we order will be from them.

The Asian Kitchen has good food but unfortunately the service there is bad. They take forever to bring the bill even if there are no customers. We have given them this feedback several times. They never learn. Last time there was some billing issue as well.

We had a terrible experience with the Marriott Kochi, I had shared some details on the Kochi solar panel thread. It deserves a post of its own since there were several bad experiences that we had that day. Safe to say, I will advise everyone to avoid their ground floor restaurant. I had shared the details on the health and safety issue on that popular FB group that Kochi foodies are a part of but not surprisingly it never got approved by their moderators

deathwalkr - I have skirted with the idea of trying the Hellboy several times but thanks to your post, I will keep such thoughts out of my mind from now on!

Oops, the guys at TBJ might be after me now for dissuading potential customers

But you should try it, maybe split it with friends?

Burgers @ Supreme Upper Crust

Tried the Grilled Ham (Beef) burger. It is big. Wide but not tall. Open it to see just tender chunks of meat inside [cut from a steak?].

Unlike usual burgers, no cheese, no veggies etc.

Disappointed.

Took a bit and man oh man, was it divine! Totally worth the 250 odd bucks.

The steak cuts are just tender and the flavour with the buns just makes it taste really really good.

If its a leisure trip, its better to go from Allapuzha to Cherthala via Thaneermukkom, and you can have breakfast at KTDC Resort there. The view of the backwaters is good. Worth the extra 5kms.

Re: A guide : Eating out in Kerala

It's my son's 9th birthday today and we'd be going out for dinner with family to celebrate.

Is there any place in Palakkad that serves decent vegetarian food apart from Kapilavasthu and Ashok Bhavan?

Is Ashok Bhavan still operational? Annalakshmi Grand on the stadium bypass road is good too. Has a great ambience. Indraprastha’s restaurant serves good veg. food too.

Annalakshmi and Indaprastha, Good options both. Good places with nice ambience. Ashok Bhavan has re opened at the exact same spot as earlier. Their biggest weakness used to be lack of parking which also seems to have been solved. With parking slight distance away.

There is also Sri Bhavan which has now opened a decent eatery towards the Located near the Olvakkode Railway station right in the main road. But is typically crowded.

Hariharaputra is also famous for vegetarian food. But parking issues and ambience may not be best for get togethers.

I have ordered deliveries and take away from each of these and food is decent. If you plan to order in, some more options like "Top In Town" get added.

I think you have all the answers from Gannu and Rohit

From a veg food perspective, the best in palakkad (in my limited knowledge) are Kapilavasthu, Hariharaputra (snacks and sweets are great too), Ashok bhavan and Indraprastha.

In terms of ambience, AC, multi cuisine vegetarian food options, I think Kapilavasthu and Indraprastha are the best.

Go to Hariharaputra for their South Indian meals, snacks (murukku, mixture etc) and sweets. Similarly, Ashok bhavan for South Indian Tiffin items.

If you don't mind eating vegetarian food at a veg+non-veg restaurant, Sri chakra international has a restaurant with decent food and ambience.

*Haven't been to Annalakshmi and Sri Bhavan

Folks, looking for restaurant recommendations in Kottayam, Kumarakom, Vembanad area. Must be great local food and outside city center. Ideally lakeside. Didnt find anything in the past pages.

Anything you can recommend?

Death due to food poisoning. We see officials conducting raids when such things happen and then dont care about maintaining hygiene.

This is a pan India issue.

Here in Trivandrum, most of the popular food trucks are off the streets fearing raids by food safety officials. If you have nothing to hide then why run?

This article seems wrong. The case happened in Kasargod and not Kottayam and the latest update indicates that it was not a case of food poisoning as they found other poison traces in the post mortem. Awaiting the detailed toxicology report.

Of course the larger issue of poor quality food is a real and critical one.

Nope, it is correct. The Kottayam death was the trigger, the Kasargod incident came in later and that like you said seems like a case of suicide.
