quick question. i always take color shots even if i intend to make a B/W. because i tink by doing so I am only reducing details in the pic, which i can do in post processing.

any advantage over taking a B/W in camera rather than doing PP later?

Not much really. Not all cameras allow shooting in black and white. One need to be careful converting colour to black and white especially in the case of reddish tones and colours. They tend to become muddy during straight conversion.
