Top Gear starts a new "Star in a reasonably priced car" chart.

Yup, Top Gear has decided that they won't keep us bored with lap times put down by celebrities who aren't known for their driving capabilities.

Alongside names of pop stars, business men, comedians and other celebs, you will now get the chance to watch actual pro racing drivers (past and present) try their hand at the humble Suzuki Liana and see how quickly they can lap the TG circuit.

Damon Hill (former F1 driver) was invited to be the first racing celebrity and managed a lap time of 1min 46.3secs.

The fastest non racing celeb is Jimmy Carr (Comedian) who managed a lap time of 1min 46.9secs. Hmmm, not bad. He's just 0.6 secs off Damons' pace.

I can't wait for names like Peter Solberg, Michael Schumacher and maybe even Valentino Rossi (he's pretty good with cars too) to hit the chart. Boy is this going to be one heck of a TG season.

U can keep yourself updated with this online chart.

Nope, the Indian version is a half hour programme, which is basically an edited smaller version of the complete 1 hour episode. Sadly, the celebrity chat and lap time isn't included in the Indian version.

I usually download the complete episodes from online torrents. Each episode amounts to around 350-375MB, some old epis are just 175MB (slightly lower quality).

Any chance of burning those episodes onto a DVD?

I hate racingflix.com, it's too damn slow. I get my Top Gear epis from "HERE"

And my Fifth Gear epis from "HERE" and "HERE"

Shan, this idea is not something new. It was started back in 2002. And i am pretty sure that proefessional racing drivers are not invited to drive the Liana.

What they started in 2002 was only limited to non racing celebs. It's only now that a new chart for pro drivers has been put up and that is what this thread is all about.

Why don't you check out the link i've provide in the opening post. That should clear your doubts.

God knows. But, it sure is fun watching that car being driven on that track. There's a very good chance that the Liana might be replaced with a Suzuki Swift. James May mentioned that probability in one off the epis.

Oh..didn't know that there was a seperate category for racing drivers now. I've been upto date witha ll the episodes of the new seasons and so far have not seen any racing drivers given a chance in the Liana.

Why the Liana? Apparently, they wanted a reasonably priced car so TG contacted Honda, Hyundai etc. and only Suzuki offered them a car. And at 9,995 pounds it is a reasonably priced car...somehow.

Check out the 26th June 2005 episode. I just downloaded it yesterday and Damon Hill was given the Liana.
