Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

The Infinite Scroll option is good. Helps to move fast, especially when browsing on mobile.
Can we have a "Navigate to page no." option in addition to "Go to top" and "Bottom" in the mobile version of the site?

I was searching for Pressure Washers and we have a 15 years old thread. I wanted to go through last 10 pages. I had to press Prev button 10 times from the end to start from a certain page and continue reading from there.

I didn't like it at first --- but yes, it works for me now

It works very well for going forwards, but not so much for going backwards.

But... This, is page 480 of this thread. If you want to back ten pages, why not just click p.470 on the page numbers? Or is that not working as expected?

I can do that from browser. But in the mobile site, if I want to start reading from page 470 to 480, there is option to go to first or prev page only. There is no option to specify a page.

EDIT: Looking at my screenshot just realized that thre is a downward arrow next to 480. Page no. can be specified in it!

As you've found out - you can click this arrow to jump to a specific page:

Mods, did not want to bring this up again, but it's been happening continuously and by the same user again and again. I hate to say this, but I & hopefully, many other BHPians see this as unnecessary when are there are multiple better threads that have come up.

Really hides the visibility of these must-read threads.

Recent example:

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Hi -

I'm not sure if this has been discussed earlier, but I think team-bhp should look at creating some authentic surveys on issues, likings, disliking or any hot topic.

For example, I'm really curious to have a survey on how many DSG - DQ200 owners have actually had failures. Online discussions (while very well controlled at team-bhp) do have an element of trolling, where 2 would have an issue and 20 will add fuel to the fire.

To make survey's reliable and in fact all user posts reliable, the vehicles owned section of team-bhp profile should be selectable dropdown/ checkbox, rather than a text field. And against each vehicle, an option to verify the owner should be available (using the parivahan database and simply completing the name of the owner, without team-bhp storing that data)

What this does? Gives institutional reliability to these surveys of verified owners.

The forum has a great collection of members in one place, its time to use that and possibly raise some money too! for future IT upgrades.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

For the last couple of days, I have noticed a strange problem. The website logs me out if I click on links or various threads. I need to keep logging in continuously almost on every new thread or page that opens up. Initially, I had thought this was on my office laptop due to restrictions, but then I noticed the strange behaviour on my personal home laptop as well.

Also, the advertisement slides up from the RHS and covers almost the entire content. That's when I notice that I have been logged out automatically.

Has anyone else faced this problem?

EDIT: This happened while posting this post as well. I clicked on the Submit button and it timed out on that one as well.

I’d like to request a dark theme for mobile. BHP-Black works on desktop, but it’d be amazing to have on mobile too.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

I understand there is an option to draft a thread but no option for draft in individual post / reply to threads.

This suggestion is after painstakingly typed long post lost.

Had to take call and coming back to editing window inadvertently pressed back in phone and lost it all.

Either a draft or acknowledgement "Do you want to discard your post to the thread" sort would be really helpful.

Yes, same here. Let me illustrate by couple of pics.

This pic shows the "Show More" threads on the bottom right corner of this page:-

Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians-pic1.png

If I click on this "Show More" link, the site takes me to the list of all 'Hot Threads' but logs me out of the TBHP site immediately.

This is the second pic after clicking, replete with multiple ads (which is an indication of the user getting logged out):-

To get back to any of the contents, I have to enter the credentials again inspite of me keeping the "remember me" check box ticked during login.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Hello, I have a suggestion as well as a request. I hope this will be considered by the admins.

When I open a link that directs to T-BHP news, from chrome browser's suggestions on Android or from the T-BHP home page, the article opens in a fresh page and to the bottom of it, we can find the "view forum discussion" button.

I always find myself wishing that the button could be at the top, maybe below the title, so that I can directly go to the forum thread.

Attaching screenshot with the button that I am talking about, for reference..

Thank You

Always interesting to see how different people navigate the same interface!

Usually when users are forced to come up with 'hacks' like this, it shows that there is a gap in the offering somewhere. Hopefully this one has been filled now.

It hasn't replaced it, it has just relocated it a bit to the left.

Like you yourself said, it's just a habitual thing, and within a few days / weeks you'll hopefully have readjusted.

Yes, definitely something we had considered, and it is a problem in situations like the Most Viewed Garages, where it's simply a snowball effect.

In this case however, most lists are very fast moving, and more influenced by the thread being featured on the Homepage, rather than "Top Thanked".

On the flipside however, there are so many fantastic posts that do not get the readership they deserve, and that's where a system like this really helps, as some lists are tuned & filtered specifically to find those overlooked posts.

Yes... this has a lot of potential, and something we do hope to get to! Though it's a big project and we see a lot of ways we could move with it. I like to think about it as "BHP Garage v2.0".

Sorry about this. We are working to have it fixed.

In the interim, have you tried clicking the "Remember Me" checkbox when you log in?

This is definitely the top-3 (if not top-1) request for the Mobile skin. Will be one of the first things we try to get to when giving it an update.

A few years back we tried to add a plugin that would auto-save text that you entered in the Quick-Reply box. However, unfortunately there were some complications and we had to remove it.

Your idea of the warning to prevent accidental navigation away is a good one! Will at least prevent some 'losses'. Will see what we can do.

PS - On some browsers, if you accidentally click "back", clicking "forward" after that restores the page with the text you had typed.

I think there's a bit of confusion here.

When you go to the Portal (ie. Homepage, Hot Threads list, News list, News articles, etc) - the site doesn't differentiate between logged in and non-logged in users, and the slider ad does show.

It's only on the /forum/ that there is a differentiation.

Hmm... noted, thanks!

Interestingly, on the desktop version of the News articles, the button is at the top -- and recently we added it to the bottom as well (in addition to the top).

Thanks for the reply. However, my query (or the confusion) still stands.
Its the 'log out' part that I don't get - when I move out of Forum via the example cited above, as compared to the 'ad display' part.

There is definitely an issue that we are working to resolve.

In your case, I wasn't sure if you were assuming you got logged out (since you saw the sliding ad in the bottom-right) -- hence didn't address it specifically.

If you're logged in on the forum, click "Show more >", then click a link to go back to the forum -- are you always logged out?

Yes, that's right. Maybe my bad, I couldn't or rather didn't clarify earlier.
Thanks Rehaan for the acknowledgement.
