Absolutely. I find them more of a marketing outlet than watchmakers. I bought it mainly for how stunning the yellow shade is and it came around 6K after discounts. I thought it was worth a gamble. After the replacement, I have a watch that works, but not one that I wear.

Re: Which watch do you own?

They are now in their next iteration. The one I have is the Apollo III. It's an automatic with a Seagull movement and is keeping good time, I must say. It's gained one minute in the last 6 days. Wear time is about 16 hours every day during these last 6 days.

I too bought it for the very attractive colour of the dial.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Lately, I have been gravitating towards quartz watches for their convenience and robustness. No hassle of setting time or date, just take it out of the box and go. In fact, all three of my recent acquisitions are quartz watches.

Mondaine Grand Cushion Chronograph - Bought it because of how beautiful it looks. I initially wanted Stop2Go from Mondaine but that unfortunately isn’t available in India. This caught my attention and I made an impulsive buy. I love cushion cases and the dial is stunning. It also has Mondaine’s signature seconds hand. For the uninitiated - Mondaine is the official Swiss Railway Clock maker. It’s now owned by a different group but the heritage is still there.

Bulova Lunar Pilot - This is a reinterpretation of a watch with a great story.

Quote:
In 1971, Bulova personally gifted a one-of-a-kind, customized chronograph watch to Colonel Dave Scott (above), commander of the Apollo 15 mission, the ninth crewed mission in the Apollo program and the fourth to land on the moon. Scott, whom history remembers as the seventh man to walk on the moon and the first to drive the Lunar Rover, was issued an Omega watch for the mission along with the rest of his crew but also brought along the Bulova watch, which was specially engineered to withstand lunar conditions, with a case built to withstand drastic changes in pressure, temperature, atmospheric conditions, and gravity. Scott wore the timepiece as a backup, and even ended up wearing it on the moon after the crystal on his NASA-issued Speedmaster, according to records, had popped off. Scott’s Bulova watch thus became the first privately owned watch ever to visit the moon; all mission-worn Omegas are the property of NASA. In 2016, the watch sold for an astonishing $1.62 million at auction.
You can read more about it here.

It’s a hefty watch at 45mm diameter but feels solid and well put together. The movement is astonishingly high frequency (262kHz) quartz movement that has an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds in a year. Phenomenal watch and I absolutely love it. Highly recommended if one has the wrist size for it.

Casio G-Shock DW-5000R - Another reinterpretation. This time an extremely accurate one of the first G-Shock from 1983. This is an extremely comfortable watch to wear and has occupied more wrist time than any other watch in my collection ever since I bought it. There are cheaper and better spec’d G-shocks available than this but this has nostalgia and comfort going for it.

Was that some sale? Because the prices are usually around 1K.

That's the average price they sell for in most places. Current price in India is Rs.1095/-

I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but the F91W and it's steel variants A158W and 159W still have a huge fan following. I need to pick up the below 3 watches. Basically the same watch in black resin (F-91W) and silver (A-158W & A-159W). The difference between the A-158W and 159W are the styles of the bracelets and the 159 is Made in Japan. The others are Made in China.

Another variant, I'd love to get my hands on is this one A159WAD-1DF with the 2 diamonds. Sadly it's out of stock on all websites in India.

Orient are a good Japanese brand. They make great watches which look elegant, keep good time and are well priced.

They used to be more easily available in India but now its a bit harder to get one.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Favre Leuba which I had found in wardrobe, that belonged to my grandpa, has come back from its repair.
I went to Time and Me in Indiranagar as it had great reviews from people who had gotten their vintage time pieces restored. With so many people getting their grandparents' time pieces, the place had a relatable story.
On 31st January I handed over the watch to Jileesh who handled my watch.
He had taken 2 weeks time and I had told him to take all the time in the world as I was in no hurry to wear it, nor was it possible to me to go to his place and collect in person, if and when it was ready.

I got a call sometime in the mid of March to inform that it was ready. Luckily Jileesh said he would send it through porter and asked me to settle the bill through UPI.

He had packed it delicately and neatly and finally my Favre Leuba came back totally refreshed

Balancing wheel was replaced and upon my request, the glass was changed. Other than that, everything is the same as it was when I found it.

This was the condition of the watch when I found it

Restored watch given new life!

Apart from this I also found this HMT watch which I got repaired

This HMT shows Day in both English and French I guess?

A few pics from my collection

A Fossil Hufflepuff Limited edition which I purchased in June last year. This watch is special to me because I bought it from my own hard earned savings.
I am not a potter head at all but this was a love at first sight watch. I instantly fell in love with the look of the badger.

Anyone has any information about any online or offline stores selling this Casio model? I have tried online and locally but didn't find it in stock anywhere. Any help in finding it will be appreciated.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I picked this Cartier Ballon Bleu from my Dad as it was lying unused after he got himself a Raymond Weil and a Tissot. I am not sure about the authenticity of this piece but looks unique and cool. Need to restore this and plan to visit Time and Me over the weekend. Let me know if anyone can spot if this is a original or fake.

I want one Tudor in my collection and wanted to check out the Monochrome but it will probably be a bit large for my wrist. The 39 is super light at around 115gm and I really like the fit on my wrist. I am particularly fond of Divers so should I go for it or wait for a few years to go for my all time favourite Omega SM 300?

P.S: My Rolex/Tudor AD came back to me with a pretty good deal on the 39.
The Pelagos 39 is an excellent Tudor buy first time or not. It is basically the titanium Submariner that Rolex won't give us and is regarded as among the best Tudors on sale today.

While some Tudors are a bit like vintage Rolex homages, the pelagos line is just itself -- a modern titanium sports/dive watch with it's own vibe. It's resale is much better compared to other Tudors (Tudors don't hold up well)

Important aspect to consider is the fit for you. You will never enjoy a watch that is too large for you. As a thumb rule just ensure the lugs are contained within the hand and do not spread out horizontally (lug to lug) and secondly ensure the lugs do not stay in the air above your wrist (curvature of the lugs)

Tudor is a bit of an anomaly with respect to sizing-
1) Tudor / Rolex lugs are slabs and do not curve to hug your wrist meaning they might stay in the air in certain angles, not a huge deal breaker but it triggers my OCD

2) More importantly, the Pelagos has a very large clasp with no half end-links so the watch could sit imbalanced on your wrist -- the clasp pushed towards one side. If the basic size of the Pelagos is easily comfortable for you, this can be managed, but if it is a close call, the clasp may ruin it. I own a black bay pro, such a cool piece but has this issue with the clasp, while i've ordered Uncle straps bracelet, pelagos's titanium has no alternate.

Having said all that, if it fits, go for the pelly39 eyes closed.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I ordered 2 watches on Casio's Official Website:

1) For my wife:
https://www.casioindiashop.com/Watch...tal-Watch.html

2) For me:
https://www.casioindiashop.com/Watch...tal-Watch.html

Most of the time they are out of stock. On a couple of occasions, I put them in the cart but by the time I entered my card details, they were showing as sold out. Finally I managed to pay and order both. The F91W was expected today and the LW 204 on 13th. Today I received a mail that the F91W is out of stock and the order has been cancelled. Now the problem is, this watch is not available anywhere. I wonder why there is so much demand. Other variants of the F91W are available. If I don't get it within the next few days, I may consider the SKMEI 1412 which is basically a clone of the F91W but with a much better backlight.

Some sort of social media phenomenon? Demand has been high for years now.

I've had an F91W since I was a schoolboy. Currently on my third piece, which was bought in 2015 and is still on its original power cell.

When I needed a replacement strap for it back in 2021, my local casio dealer asked me if I'm willing to sell for a 'good price'. Apparently high demand and very limited supply. I refused.

Thankfully, I'm unlikely to need a replacement soon, and when I do, I'll probably get family in Japan to source me a JDM specimen.

My first Casio was a Telememo 30 (Silver) with a capacity to store 30 phone numbers (Before the days of Mobile Phones). I upgraded to a Telememo 50 (Black) when one of the lugs on the Telememo 30 broke off. I found the watch over 10 years after I bought it and it was still running on the original battery.

I don't think the F91W (and the silver variant the A158) is made in Japan anymore. They shifted production to Thailand years ago and more recently to China. You do get the A159 which is identical to the A158 (except for the bracelet) which is made in Japan.

The F91W was and still is the default work watch for people on ships. There is an increasing move to smartwatches but nothing can beat the ruggedness of the F91W in the harsh conditions at sea. Smartwatches are now banned on deck on tankers so a simple Casio is again making sense.
