Take a look at the tissot quartz supersport chrono which I think is a panda and Seiko Speedtimers (also known as the Seitona), these are excellent and well finished.

The Timex Marlin is a tribute to the Tag Heuer Carrera 60th anniversary edition. Timex has shamelessly copied the design and I am not complaining! When it comes to build quality and movement, these two watches are miles apart, but when it comes to looks the Timex is 90% Carrera at 1.5% of the cost.





I am aware of the Tissot supersport and Seiko Speedtimer, love them both. But this time around I am not going for the Daytona look.

It was not easy, it was out of stock everywhere. I read on /watchesindia that Timex was stocking it in limited quantities, so I kept checking their website. Luckily, this time it was in stock and I immediately placed the order. It has now been dispatched and will be delivered by the 22nd of January.

Talking of Timex, last week I accompanied a friend on a battery hunt for his ordinary Timex. Surprisingly, stores like Helios and Titan flatly refused. Finally, he ended up getting a replacement from a roadside watch repair fellow.

I have a Timex Weekender in my small collection, it gave up on me so I took it to a local watch shop and was told the movement needed replacing. But to be fair, I didn't use it and the old battery was still in it, so I can't complain too much. The funny thing is that I bought it in 2016 for 1200 bucks, and now it retails for between 7000 and 9000!

2023 has been a great year for Timex, they have released many successful models. Their Q reissues, Marlin series, Marlin Automatics, and MK1s have all been praised by the community. Although I don't have any first hand experience, the quality of the watches has improved according to the internet, so fingers crossed for now. As far as batteries are concerned, I have a guy over here who has replaced batteries in my Tommy Hilfiger and a few other quartz watches, I believe he will be able to provide a battery for this Marlin, again this is just a hope, I have not spoken to him in this regard yet.

@hash- actually my sister got this from Amazon US. Sadly it's not available in India and I wanted to buy Orient this time. In india, the price is actually double if you compare with Canada or US prices.

Picked up a very cool automotive-inspired watch on Republic Day - the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Honda Super Cub Limited Edition, reference SRPK37. My watch is #5533/7500, and was the last piece that the AD had - luckily I was able to secure it. This is my first Seiko, and it sits very nicely in my collection alongside my G-Shock DW-B5600G and Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 42mm (reference H70555533), as well as the vintage Tissot Seastar Visodate I received recently and posted about on the forum.

No photo can do justice to how great this watch looks - it’s incredibly eye-catching and a very cool timepiece.

An almost sad update on the watch. To recap my watch journey is like this : Mechanical hand wind (it broke) -> Automatic (servicing cost turned me off them forever) -> Citizen Eco-Drive.

Since this was a diver watch (200m of water resistance) I took the liberty of wearing it on the beach. Spent sometime in the waves on the shore. Well guess what? The 200m waterproof watch is not sand proof !!

The rotating bezel got some fine sand under it (and I did not rotate it while in water). And it got stuck. I am not diving into dark depths and I do not need the functioning bezel but it left an itchy feeling. Something was wrong. And needs to be fixed (An Engineer's dilemma).

The web is full of watches having such issue and the fix is to pop the bezel out and clean it. And to scratch the watch in the process.

Here is Team-BHP exclusive !!
Take a new razor blade (for the young ones it is the 7'o Clock razor blade Dad's used to put in the double edge razor) and slide it in the gap where bezel meets the watch. Then move the razor all along the circumference so as to remove all the stuck debris under the bezel. And pray a bit.
The razor should push the sand out and in my case the sand was so fine that I did not even see it.
But the bezel is now rotating fine.

Try it before taking bezel off.
