Re: Which watch do you own?

Just realised I never shared a snap of my collection. Before I start remember I am not rich and as you will soon see I suck at photography. But I am a sucker for watches and cars alike. I had around 13 more watches but as fate would have it, there was a robbery in my house a few years back when all my watches were stolen. That was the only day in my life I forgot to wear a watch to work (god and his weird tricks!).
Nevertheless here goes the list starting from top left hand side:
1. Hamilton Khaki aviation: The watch Matthew Mc Conaughey wore in Interstellar

2. Skagen some slim watch: I wear it only with full sleeved shirts as it easily slips in. A decent watch nonetheless

3. Casio edifice: A model which was not available in India but grabbed my attention many years back at a duty free because of its green highlights

4. Seiko SKX007: A quintessential part of any avid watch fan. I don't like it much as its power backup sucks. But just like all my Seikos the fit is always so good. They are like the Ford of the watch industry. Cheap but always get their seat and steering position bang on.

5. Seiko Prospex save the ocean chronograph: Bought it only because of its wavy dial (couldn't afford a seamaster). Not a very well finished watch though. You can get other very good divers at same price

6. Tissot Chemin Des Touralles automatic chronograph: Again, don't like the watch too much but needed an auto chrono in my collection and this was the only one I could afford. Must say the clicky pushers work very well as a fidget tool during boring or critical meetings

7. Seiko 5 sports world time: One of my favourites. Perfect size, excellent power reserve (min 46 hrs), fuss free automatic

8. Seiko solar chrono: Same model now rebadged as a Prospex and sold at twice the price. Seikos have inflated more than Rolex over the past few years! I use this when I travel abroad as it has a second time zone. Very convenient

9. Casio oak: Its a very versatile watch. I wear it when I am usually going to the nearby kirana store for monthly groceries on my activa. Its rough and tough so can take a beating in case I fall from the scooter

10. Edox Delfin: I was really poor that time but was in Lucerne. Had to buy something swiss which was not a Tissot. This one was on a heavy discount. You will be surprised by the build quality and finesse of this watch. It can eat Longines and Tudors in terms of build I swear. Spectacular at this price point.

11. Longines spirit: I was planning for a Tudor but at half the price I found this. Dropped the Tudor plan as this just looked so nice and classy. The details on the dial are just next level and the size is perfect. I would recommend this watch to all if your wrist is minimum 7 inches as it has a weird lug

12. Tissot V8 chronograph: A gift from my father when my whole collection got stolen. Not a very good quality watch just like most Tissots but has a lot of memories

I have a Samsung watch as well but I only wear it when I go for a run. Which is probably once in a month.

Enjoy

The Casio A158W-1 is my daily, along with the Bulova Classic Two-Tone with Champagne Dial. Not a huge fan of the Fossil, but it does the job. An occasional daily.

The Titan tank is another classy piece that I have recently started using. It looks much more expensive than it actually is - love the look and feel of it. The Omega Constellation is from 1987, and as you can see, is a bit of an oddball in this collection. Originally came with a leather strap, but recently got a lovely rose gold metal strap which I feel looks much better than the previous one.

The Mont Blanc Timewalker GMT is probably my favourite dress watch from this collection, which got a new leather strap recently. Looks very elegant on the wrist. Easy to style and goes well with almost every look.

The Rado Diastar Black Ceramic is stunning and always manages to catch everyone's eye. The perfect conversation starter at parties. And lastly the Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16800. What should I even say about it? It has been well-used and bears scars and scratches, although not used much these days. Timeless design, and absolutely iconic.

How I plan on filling the three empty spots:

1. Seiko: It is a shame that I still do not own a Seiko, and honestly I don't know how. Probably will be my next buy. Not sure about the model, but a Seiko 5 SNXS79 has my heart.

2. HMT Pilot or Kohinoor: My recent obsession. Have been reading up on HMT quite a bit and looking to add one to my collection. While not a huge fan of bright dials, I was thinking of adding a tiffany blue or yellow to the collection. Because why not?

3. TBD: Suggestions welcome

Filled one empty spot with an HMT! While I was on the lookout for an automatic, the TV case of Sangam appealed to me way too much. I was looking for a retro-ish replacement for the Casio for a daily and this one just made sense. Surprisngly the Kohinoor has not really grown on me, although the NASS series is something that I really wanted. Too bad they were out of stock!

Technically, I haven't had the pleasure of holding it in my hands just yet, as it was delivered to India, and I currently reside abroad. I'm eagerly anticipating the day I can finally get my hands on it!

Re: Which watch do you own?

Hello Bhpians-

Has anyone tried their hands to build an own automatic / mechanical watch by sourcing movement, dial etc as a hobby? I saw a lot of NH35 / Miyota / ETA replicas in ebay and dials but wanted to understand if there is a way to source just the movements locally in India.

Any guidance is appreciated

Customary watch check:

The easiest to source and the simplest movement are the HMT ones. Assuming you’re in chennai, you can check with your watchmaker if he can get you a refurbished movement or go to Moore market and pick up some cheap watches, get it serviced.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I've always had a soft spot for watches and am fairly old school when it comes to them, meaning I'm not a big fan of smartwatches. Either way, here are the watches that I have right now

1. Name: Titan Maritime Collection
Strap: Dark Brown Leather
Dial: Dark Green
Reference Number: NN1830KL02/NR1830KL02
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-maritime.jpeg

One of my absolute favourite watches, that I received as a gift for my 18th Birthday. Quite apt for the occasion I would say. The maritime collection in general from Titan has some absolutely beautiful watches.

2. Name: Fossil Townsman Chronograph
Strap: Originally Tan Leather, changed to Black
Dial: Cobalt Blue
Reference Number: FS5279
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-blue-fossil.jpeg

A More recent acquisition, a gift for my Birthday again

3. Name: Titan HTSE
Strap: Black Leather
Dial: Black
Reference Number: 1573KL02
Movement: Solar, Quartz

Which watch do you own?-titan-htse.jpeg
Old but super cool mechanism where it harnesses light to power the battery

4. Name: Fossil Grant Chronograph
Strap: Dark Brown Leather
Dial: Cream
Reference Number: FS4735
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-fossil-grant.jpeg
A More subtle and elegant colour combination. Absolutely love it.

5. Name: Aviator F Series Chronograph
Strap: Originally Black Leather, switched to a generic strap later.
Dial: Black
Reference Number: avw7770g116
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-aviator.jpeg

This is one of my all time favorite watches to wear. Aviator is a very small not not very well known, swiss company. The company was founded in 2000 and has been dedicating itself to creating a collection of varied pilot’s watches.

It originally came with a beautiful black perforated leather strap, but had to be replaced due to the wear and tear. The cost of importing a new strap didn't make any financial sense, so decided to pick up a strap from amazon. Still gives a nice, field watch vibe if I may say so myself.

6. Name: Sekonda Chronograph
Strap: Originally Brown Leather, switched to Black
Dial: Off White
Reference Number: 3847*
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-sekonda.jpeg

A relatively cheap watch from a small brand in the UK. They began with a small collection of Russian mechanical watches and then moved to Leicester which is where the brand is still based today.

7. The following are three watches that were my Dad's before he switched to a Smartwatch I don't wear them, as they aren't particularly my style, but I still keep them because they do look good.

Which watch do you own?-dads-old.jpeg

(From Left to Right)

A. Name: Guess Collection
Strap: Gold Coloured Bracelet
Dial: White
Reference Number: GC10500
Movement: Quartz

B. Name: Rivoli
Strap: Gold Coloured Bracelet
Dial: Off White
Reference Number: 205-050-M
Movement: Quartz

C. Name: Westar
Strap: Gold Coloured Bracelet
Dial: White
Reference Number: 9018GPN
Movement: Quartz

10. Name: Casio G Shock
Strap: Rubber
Dial: Analogue - Digital
Reference Number: GA100
Movement: Quartz

Which watch do you own?-g-shock.jpeg

I saved the best for last and in the words of Nico Leonard, that's a GOD TIER watch right there. My beater watch that I wear almost all the time, at home, while working out etc. I've had it for all of 7 years and have not had a single issue with it. Its my and my G shock against the world

Hope y'all enjoyed the read. Cheers

Re: Which watch do you own?

Bought this last month from Delhi Watch Company, a micro-brand based in Delhi. I followed their earlier releases but gave them a pass because those were mostly based on refurbished HMT movements. This latest one is called Vayu 2 and has impressive specs - NH35A movement from Seiko with a bidirectional rotor and hacking. Plus, a screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, and a stainless steel case. All this at around 8,000 rupees. Overall, an excellent value-for-money watch that can take some beating.

This one’s from invella. While it looks good, I am not too impressed with the quality. CNS offers much better quality at a similar price point.

Re: Which watch do you own?

This is a Hegde and Golay 'Siddarth'- manual winding watch.
Used to be my maternal grandfather's possession in his days of Youth and exuberance (college days) haha.

It is a 60 odd years old watch and one of my favourite watches that I "own".

By the time I was born ('97) neither were my grandfather here in this mortal world, nor this company, so I really am holding on to a timeless piece. A rare classic. The watch guy who I recently visited to get it serviced really treated this watch with reverence, given its antiquity. He told me that the machinery of this watch is foreign made.

The other watches I "own" -
1. Fossil
2. A few HMTs that my father used to wear in his days of Youth and exuberance (They need servicing)
3. Timex Ironman 2006 edition. ( Too lazy to scour for it at this moment :P )

I write "own" because I've either been handed these watches down or gifted. I've never bought myself a watch, yet. My dream watch is surely an iced out Rolex or Roley as they say

Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
AK.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I have three Rado Quartz, Omega Constellation 41mm and Omega Speedmaster Automatic. The last one needs servicing and some repair. The last time it was serviced they charged 92k plus. So I am holding back, but will bite the bullet soon.

The Hegde & Golay is a beaut! You are so lucky that your grandfather kept it and passed it on.

I remember a beautiful HMT watch that my father used to own and gave it to me. I forgot it in a train bathroom and it was stolen in just 5 minutes.

Sir, if I am not wrong, both of your Omega and the Rado run well into lakhs. If you don't mind, can we have a glance of the beauties?

They have another run scheduled in January. You may want to reach out to them on Instagram as they are quite responsive there.
