You will get a Longines Conquest or the Elegance within this range. You can try them on in India at Ethos or similar and order from Switzerland if the price difference is good.

Conquest auto 39mm is a seriously good watch - has 300m water resistance and a reliable movement.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Quick tip - I checked the Ethos Duty Free outlet at Delhi T3 a couple of days ago and happened to ask the gentleman about deals on a few models - turns out the prices are really amazing there - an Orix Big Crown on steel strap was offered to me at 97k INR, the Ethos web price is 168k INR for the same.

I skipped it for now but when I have to buy a watch next, that may be the best spot.

Got this one from Casio's official website. Has a lovely slide rule with date, day & 24 hour complications. Build quality is very good for the price. Has luminous hands and hour markers with a smooth seconds hand movement.

Re: Which watch do you own?

what are the thoughts and observations for buying a Hublot? A friend has been pestering me to buy one when I told him the amount that I may consider spending. I am more interested in buying a Omega or Rolex (new range i.e. bright dial colors). Would love to know the thoughts of fellow members. Thanks

I would get an Omega any day over a Hublot. For me, Omega’s brand recall is huge when compared to Hublot. Personally, I would go for Omega with eyes closed out of the three.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I woke up today to a cloudy miserable looking morning, expecting another dull and a hectic day ahead, least realizing what was in store for me. All of a sudden my father's long lost watch fell on my lap (it literally did!). I was getting a room emptied to get it painted and while taking stuff out from the attic, the watch just fell on me!

Background of the watch: My father was presented this watch when he graduated at the top of his class. It also has several other 'adventurous' stories associated with it, which I will leave for some other time. It was last seen sometime around 2014, when someone had 'stored' it somewhere. I remember having turned the whole house upside down not once but twice to locate it but to no avail. So you can imagine my happiness having found it after so many years.

Now my question to the learned folks here, which is the best place in India to get it restored. I know nothing about watches except that they show time and are worn on the wrist!

There are quite a few types of restorations :
BASIC
. Simplest is just cleaning and polishing the case and the strap.
. New band if the old one is goner.
. Service the internals.

ADVANCED
. Service the watch.
. Change the Strap.
. Replace the case.

The best place to get the watch serviced is the Omega India Service Centre. You can get the particulars on their web site.

Regarding changing the strap and case, you will have to search the net as the original will have long been discontinued.

In my opinion the best bet is to approach the local Omega Authorised Centre and have a discussion regarding the costs involved.

You can also surf the net and find out who and how it is done Internationally. That will give you an idea of what can be done.

Re: Which watch do you own?

This Omega is a superb piece. I own a similar one of a similar vintage. (1950’s-1960’s) (My Granddads watch handed down to my dad and from my dad to me.)

For restoration and servicing of this rare old Omega watch I suggest go to Ethos or Zimson or Kapoor or CH Albrecht (depending on which part of India you live in) and ask them to help.

They will typically send it to Switzerland for servicing and it will cost you tidy, but will be well worth it.

Please DO NOT replace the case or have it polished up. These watches hold far greater value with the original parts and the vintage patina.

I had an issue with my watch strap and plexiglass cover. I gave it to Ethos and they had all the work done and brought it back in a month and a half.

This was in 2006 or so. Yes I paid a goodly sum but I consider it a good investment.

And that old Omega still keeps perfect time.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Folks,
Need some guidance. I had purchased a Citizen Eco Drive watch from Amazon with warranty, for my wife about 2 years ago. The watch came with a 3 year warranty (got the warranty card along with the watch). Unfortunately it wasn't stamped, but being an EcoDrive, we didn't worry about it back then. For reference my 7 year old EcoDrive has been working flawlessly.

Recently it stopped charging and after numerous attempts of keeping it under the sun/light to no avail, we took it to a Citizen service center who 'rejected' the warranty card saying it doesn't have a dealer stamp. We showed them the purchase invoice on Amazon but that didn't go well. Are there any options that we can avail (say from Citizen India)?

That's a good looking watch! I'm thinking a leather strap might look good too.

Re: Which watch do you own?

As long as you purchased the watch from an Authorised retailer or reseller the invoice is to be accepted as proof of purchase and since it was an online purchase the warranty card will not get stamped.
Amazon usually writes this on the product blurb that the invoice is good enough proof. Citizen ought to honour this.
Can you check on your history whats been written on the product blurb? A printout of that should help you with the Citizen guys.

I also bought by Casio without dealer stamp, but registered it online, and got a conformation e-mail with warranty date mentioned.

You can e-mail Citizen India HQ with images of the watch (showing serial number) and the Amazon invoice. They will help you out. If they do not, you can always send a copy of the mail to their Global HQ.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I have bought several watches online and have registered a few on their websites for warranty (for Casio watches). One Seiko that I bought from Amazon was sent a warranty certificate stamped by the seller. However, I’ve never needed to avail any warranty as on date for any of my watches, thankfully.

Bought a watch for my sister yesterday from Titan shop and received this rather strong worded (or funny you decide) warranty certificate:
