I second that, fake watches just do not have the pleasure of ownership. Those who pay a lot for their watches buy it for their own satisfaction , since unlike big expensive cars very few people care or see what watch you are wearing.

That is very true. There are a lot more people who (claim) to be knowledgable about cars then about watches. Interestingly enough, most of my watches have cost more then my cars as all my cars are second hand at least. Whereas all my watches, except my IWC, are new and genuine.

re: Which watch do you own?

Has anyone ordered a high value piece from the UK and got it delivered to India?
Am concerned about it getting held up at customs.

Indian customs is pretty much hassle free. Whenever your package is held at customs, you will get a message at the tracking page that its being held at Customs pending an Invoice.

I ordered a Seiko from Japan and it was held at Customs. They included an Invoice, but it was in Japanese and apparently those fellows weren't aware of JPY as a currency once I went in and gave the Invoice, they calculated the customs duty I needed to pay. Next day the postman came over with the package and paid him the Duty plus 30rs for postage handling charges.

Customs fellows will send you a letter asking you to get the Invoice if held. I hadn't got the letter, but the tracking page showed that it was held at customs.

Thanks Sunnyboi!
One more query, where did you send the invoice and whom did you contact in customs as you said you received no letter from them? I mean what is the SOP for such an instance?

I went to the Customs office in person since I stay in Bangalore. If you're not in the same city as the Customs office, you can send the invoice in a post, addressed to the Customs Officer. I did not get the letter since the Customs Office was shifted and their new office was still a mess with many unpacked boxes. They did apologise for not sending the letter since they were still unpacking.

I took a confirmation email copy and paypal receipt with me to the Customs officer. You have to clearly show Watch amount + shipping amount, else they will calculate customs on the total amount instead of the watch amount. If you're ordering from Rakuten, make sure you use Google translate or other service to translate the emails into English; I took mine in Japanese and the Customs officer was very confused and I had to explain everything to make him understand.

Customs is still a hit-or-miss, while I was charged, my good friend at Chennai didnt have to pay anything. He got a letter asking for the invoice, he sent a letter with his company letter head (he is a lawyer) and couple of days later he got the watches without being charged any duty
