I own few Skagens, HMTs, Citizens and wanted to increase the collection. Went to a watch shop and this guy showed me a Daros watch. He claimed that its Swiss made and about 35-40 years old. The dial said " DAROS, 25 Jewels, Automatic, incabloc.

Did some googling but can't find very many references. Can someone help? He is quoting a price of 6K.

A matte black with steel strap and shipping to India is $194

I bought the standard Pebble a while back.
Nice watch. Notifies you about things.
But I think the I'M Watch, from Italy, might be a bit superior.
Of course the Apple Watch would be the best...

This is mine. Baume & Mercier Capeland collection. Next watch I'm looking at is either a Jaeger or possibly a Patek Philippe Calatrava. All depending ofcourse, on the money I have to spare! Cheers!

@Lij,
Thanks for the input. There is only one reference to Daros on Wachuseek. That too is not of much help. I have come across one more instance on ebay Australia. But surprising no literature what-so-ever.

Just got myself a Seiko Sportura Big Calendar Chronograph. It was actually gifted by my soon to be misses.

Also fell in love with this watch and it is next in line to be added to the collection.

Newly acquired Seiko Black Monster (SRP307J1):

The pics were taken with my old cellphone, so kindly excuse the quality.

Bought it off CreationWatches, the Singapore-based dealer of grey-market Seikos.

The cost breakup:
Watch+shipping: Rs.15,369
Customy duty+Handling: Rs.04,348
Total: Rs.19,717

Still cheaper than the Indian prices by about 6000 rupees.

What I like:
- A very affordable automatic. :)
- Great quality. Much better value than entry-level Swiss watches.
- It's a certified dive watch, replete with a screw-down crown etc.
- The Seiko 43R6 movement features "hacking" and manual winding. Also deemed to be very accurate.
- 41-hour power reserve.
- It's the Japanese-made version (against the Malaysia-made version sold in India). I'm told there'll be no difference in quality, though.

What I don't like:
- On the heavier side.
- The case is quite thick. Will be a tight fit under my cuffs.

About CreationWatches:
- Competitive pricing
- Genuine watches, as far as I could learn from forums like watchuseek.
- Quick communication and shipping. (But DHL in India did delay delivery by a few days, though). Received the watch in 7 days sharp.
- Since the watches are grey-market, the boxes will probably be replicas, and there won't be any "official" papers.

Anyway I really like my new Seiko. It joins my other two daily beaters, a black Titan and a brown Tissot. :)

Did you pay the customs + handling when you ordered the watch or when it was delivered?

Cheers,

Nope, that amount was quoted only when the package was delivered, and there was no official document from Customs. Only a statement from DHL that I had to pay this amount towards duties+handling. I'm hoping DHL isn't making it up. They aren't really the most honest courier company out there.

I bought a Seiko SNZG07j1 from Creation in October and was lucky that no customs duty was charged.
Recently have obtained the SRP309k1, the famous Orange Monster, shown below with a pure leather Nato strap. This came from Amazon via Canada.

Having owned both the Japan made (J series) and the Malaysia (K series) I think the Japan watches are better regulated. My SNZG07J1 keeps within 2 seconds a day. while the 309k1 is about 45 seconds slow every day.
I'm apprehensive getting the OM regulated since I don't want to lose the water-resistance. The nearest authorised Seiko service point is 600 km away from Goa, and I'll wait until I can go there personally some day.
BTW the OM 309K1 is most comfortable with it's original steel bracelet. For some reason, Nato straps make any watch stand up too much on my wrist.

Just received a Pebble Steel from a friend as a present, so don't know what it costs. It came with a soft leather strap and a stainless steel strap, with a tool for changing the strap. I'm impressed with the gadget. So far have used it when I have meetings and other times when it's not 'de rigueur" to pull out your cellphone from the pocket. I can see who's calling, and read sms and whatsapp, and even send a pre-written stock reply.

Seiko owners especially the divers, please please post the shots of the lume (like the one one-77 has posted).

Any pointers on how to get a good lume shot with a DSLR?

Check out this thread - Watchuseek

PS: Use a flashlight or your cellphone's LED light to brighten up the lume of the watch before taking a shot. Will shine with some extra brightness! :p
