I have seen 5G signals in Mahadevpura area since 3 weeks now on Samsung F23 5G phone even before the "supposed" software update that is supposed to enable 5G. Its a different story that speeds aren't great, perhaps that update will optimize it.

"My Airtel" app does list the area as 5G enabled.

1- Where exactly in Mahadevapura?

2- How do we check on the map? Or are you referring to Bangalore city in general which it shows.

Some more details would be helpful.

With regards to speed, have you switched network to 5G? ie toggle the mode to 5G goto Airplane mode for 10 sec and latch back. Otherwise though it may show 5G will be connected to 4G as per some internet articles.

You are right. Airtel uses something known as Non Standalone architecture (NSA). 4G is still the anchor and 5G leg is added to offer higher/additional capacity. Uses existing 4G core network.
Jio is SA (standalone) which is end to end including 5G core network.

Re: The Airtel Thread

Any pointers suggestion on Airtel postpaid and Airtel black (single billing). We have four airtel prepaid in our family - 2 in TN and 2 in Karnataka. We have one airtel broadband and Tata sky DTH. All of us recharge once a year to the longest validity for about Rs 3K.

Airtel is offering a plan for 1799+gst, total outgo 2122/pm. This is slightly higher than the current outgo but not of too much concern. But the moot question is about the quality of service. Couple of my friends having Airtel postpaid vouch for better quality of service, both voice and data. Second would be the remaining balance for the existing prepaid validity(one connection has 7 months validity left), whether airtel would prorate it and credit it to the postpaid is not known. Any suggestions from Airtel veterans.

You will have to port from pre-paid to post-paid and also move the circles. Airtel Black plans are for the same circle only for eg. all 4 connections have to be either in KA or TN. Call 121 and check on the balances etc, I believe they will not be moved.

Did you get 5G enabled on your S21? The Airtel app on my S21 Ultra says my phone is not 5G . I got the Android 13/ One UI 5 update last week.

The airtel app says so when we are not in 5g covered area. The 5G coverage was available only in particular area in bangalore. In my home and workplace it is still not available. I did not do anything other than updating the Android and switching to 5g in network settings.

That means the message is misleading-there is a difference between a phone being 5G capable and a phone being 5G enabled. The message indicates the former. Its says the phone does not support 5G.

Re: The Airtel Thread

Question regarding Airtel closed loop calling. Airtel had provided "intercom" connection (like soft EPABX) in our apartment, that is who ever had Airtel land-line could call each other using 2xxx. Also they had provided a few free lines to have the security cabin (2000) and other amenities locations.

Now, since they converted all copper lines to fiber, the security cabin line is dead. Looking for options to have a fixed connection in the cabin. Any pointers on how to go about? One option is to have the line converted to fiber and have modem and handset connected, but will it robust and trouble free? Any other solutions possible?

Re: The Airtel Thread

Would like to share pathetic experience I had with bill payment using Airtel Thanks App (it should be called Thankless App).

I hold Axis bank Airtel co-branded card which provides cashback on electricity bill payment using the app. While trying to pay the bill a few days ago, app glitched. Payment was deducted from credit card but on the app, it still showed payment processing. I thought to wait and re-check after a day but it still showed same status. I checked with my card customer care and they confirmed that payment has been successful with merchant name showing as Airtel Payment Banks.

Here starts my ordeal and frustrating experience with Airtel (it's useless app and clueless customer care)

1. Tried to log a ticket on the app. They only have chatbot and drop-down options to choose from. Couldn't find any option to raise a complaint for utility bill payment issue. As if they don't want to hear about any such issues from customers.

2. Somehow logged case under payments bank category as it was showing as the merchent on my credit card statement. Attached screenshot from their App clearly showing transaction details, amount etc. They closed the case within few hours mentioning that I did not share my airtel payment bank savings account number or wallet number. I don't have any account or wallet with them and don't know what more to share with them. Frustration continues.

3. Called 121 which is supposed to be dedicated customer care for Airtel black members like me. Guy over phone was clueless and said that he couldn't help with this issue. So much for premium customer support! He gave me another number 400 to talk to Airtel payments bank customer care. Frustration continues.

4. Dialed 400 with hope to connect with a human! But it only had 2 options - dial 1 to know about some bharosa savings account, dial 2 for payment bank wallet. Tried both options but there was only pre-recorded message about those products. No option for any support or speak to customer care. Frustration continues.

5. Called back 121 and this time got another number 8800688006 about which the guy over phone was confident that it'd connect to customer care. But again same story repeats and frustration continues.

6. Again called back 121 and this time got email id wecare@airtelbank.com to drop mail about my issue. Did that and waited with some hope. They closed the case and responded that I did not share my Airtel savings bank details. I could not believe what the heck was going on. Frustration continues.

7. Again called 121 but guy is clueless as usual and asked me to try same numbers again after few hours in case system was busy. How stupid and clueless the customer support could be!

Now I'm left with no option and no support from Airtel. Their own folks don't know how to support issue with bill payment. Don't know what should I do to get a resolution. Never experienced this type of dead-end support in my life and that too coming from Airtel who is claiming to be the most customer friendly firm there is

If anyone knows and can guide me how to get support on this issue, I'd really appreciate.

I had a similar experience though it was related to their DTH.
We had bought a new Airtel dth connection +6 months Telugu language pack from Amazon for my in laws. The installation was done and they activated kannada language pack for 6 months since there location is Bangalore.

When I raised this issue with customer care, they kept bouncing me between multiple teams and saying that a long term pack once activated cannot be cancelled. I spoke to so many people from, but they just kept repeating the same and suggesting I buy more language packs by paying additional amount. Since it was their mistake, I was not ready to do this and lose my money.

Luckily, I had bought it from Amazon, so I raised a complaint with Amazon and they forwarded the complaint to the vendor which is Airtel and promised a resolution by vendor. After multiple chasers, finally Amazon refunded the money, but Airtel team didn't do anything. They just pocketed them money without taking any responsibility. Pathetic customer service.

I can understand your frustration as I had to deal with Airtel for a different issue. I would suggest follow the below steps:

1. Your electricity provider should have a portal/website where you can check if the payment is received and it can be a glitch on the Airtel app.

2. Visit a nearby physical Airtel store and explain the issue to them and see what they have to say.

3. Raise a grievance with the Airtel appelate authority. Details can be found here:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...DDERFppMS61tsB

4. Raise a dispute for the charge with your credit card service provider stating the amount is deducted but the service provider is denying payment received and provide supporting evidence.

I hope you get resolution for the issue at the earliest.

Not through Airtel, but we also had similar setup. A vendor who had setup an in house broadband solution had put copper lines for common area / security cabin intercom and also for intercom in each apartment.

Initially most of the broadband users were availing this vendors service, hence they were quick to attend complaints on intercom also (one through fibre, other through copper), however once new ISP's came up, many moved out, this made the vendor less interested in fixing issues in intercom.

We did try with lot many options and now follow the below -
1. Intercom - legacy, still continues. Randomly goes out of service.
2. Walkies to all guards, plumbers, electricians.
3. Facility office has an association provided mobile connection and broadband with whatsapp number. Hence there is call plus data/ whatsapp call as backup.
4. MyGate app with call option enabled, so that it can be used for emergency .

Slowly intercom / copper lines will die off and then I guess only mobile based options may be suitable.

Re: The Airtel Thread

After Increasing the regular plan prices, airtel has reduced data addon validity.
Earlier, I used to recharge 1799 for 365 and data addon of 50G with same validity as base pack, now the data add on is limited to 30 days, making a big hole in my pockets since I have done same recharge method for my parents and wife too. Addon pack used to give flexibility of data usage whenever outside with no limit per day. Now next higher pack is 3599/!! and I already have stacked recharge till 2025 end
