Marco - Malayalam

The Regional movies thread!-kimp_marco4.jpg

What a royal waste of time! I understand that going into such a movie I need to leave logic out of the equation, however even then there is a certain point at which even common sense ceases to exist. Bloodshed, slashing knives for no reason, violence that is added just for kicks and what not... IMHO, nothing about this movie justifies the need for its existence.

I consoled myself drooling over the various cars on display ranging from the Range Rover, G Wagon and yes, loads n loads of Defenders. I liked Jagadish's take on his character too.

Anyone else who felt Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan who played the character of Russel looked a lot like Sunny Wayne with a slightly puffed face and a close cropped haircut?

Rating : 2/5 (1 for the Defenders and 1 for Jagadish)

Bromance - Mathew Thomas, Arjun Ashokan, Mahima Nambiar

Went for this as a passtime not expecting much. But surprisingly a fun slapstick watch. Mainly a story about 2 brothers one of whom goes missing and the brother and a group of 3-4 people connected to him trying to find him. Generally everyone overacts quite a bit, but enough fun elements to keep watching.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Marco is getting the bashing after OTT release as expected.

I think the movie worked in theaters, not because of logic or story but because of the shock value due to excess violence, the action choreography+execution and the overall stylized making.

Watched it yesterday, and it's a good movie. But what's with Mahima Nambiar? Apart from RDX, all her movies are just to show her cuteness.

Pushpa 2

Streaming: Netflix

Although much has already been written in the previous posts, even I found the movie to be slightly over the top and far less interesting than the first installment. I was amazed by the garish and loud outfits for the cast, made me think whether the designer was going through some life crisis. The plot falters at regular intervals. Wonder what made Faasil take up the role as he fails to deliver the psychotic cop role. The announcement of third installment was even more hurting.

Agree. Most of the reviews placed Marco above the movie Kill. As someone who went into the theatre determined to like both these movies, Kill was a total satisfaction as it gave me that emotional hook that justified the violence that follows. Whereas in Marco it was just violence for the sake of violence and I couldn't even connect emotionally to even a single character, except the Defenders which understood the assignment and delivered!

What gets my goat is Marco's suit up scene right after the biggest personal tragedy of his life!

Is it really a tragedy for him?

Here is my theory : Marco is not a 'hero'. He is a cold blooded criminal, who is adopted by a criminal (Siddique) & his family.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

I saw the movie and immediately regretted it. The movie was made just for the sake of making it. The gory violence was not gelling with the story at all. Infact the story was built around the violence. Unni Mukudan did not fit the role of Marco in my opinion. Why was hero smoking so much, just an illogical movie. Best to be avoided or to be watched with a strip of Dispirin for sure.

Hello Mummy

The Regional movies thread!-1.jpg

Had all the elements for a good comedy - horror with some good actors perfect for the role, but it was kind of disappointing. Started off well and the interval it's enjoyable. But after that it was just HORRIBLE! Some unwanted characters and unnecessary backstory or plot. That was totally pathetic. Bindu Panicker made a fool of herself with her badly timed jokes.

Too many songs for this genre and was totally unnecessary.

First half is a decent watch but can skip (fast forward) the second half especially the last 20 mins.

Rating - 2/5 (Available on Amazon Prime).

Officer on Duty

The Regional movies thread!-2.jpg

Not as good as his previous movies like Nayattu, Pada etc but it was a good watch. Everyone acted pretty well, BGM was good but loved the cinematography. You wouldn't notice it, but it pulled off some pretty amazing shots, especially the fight inside the hospital. The topic is a bit sensitive and definitely not recommended for children.

Rating - 3.5/5 (Recommended - A decent watch). Currently in theater.

Fussclass Dabhade (Marathi)

Streaming: Amazon prime

I watched the movie knowing its going to be a tear jerker. The emotional part of the film plot was too heavy. But it was fun to watch Amey Wagh, Siddharth Chandekar, Kshitee Jog and the cast in the woven story of family bonding and emotions. Well supported by senior cast like Nivedita Saraf etc. One time watch maybe.

Rating: 2.5/5

Sankranthiki Vasuthunam (Telugu)

Streaming: Amazon prime

A surprise sleeper hit I am told about this movie. A comedy movie with everyone trying their best at comic scenes. Some loud and some really hillarious. The cherry on the cake goes to Marathi actor Upendra Limaye who steals the thunder from seasoned actors like Venkatesh, Sai Kumar etc. The ladies in the plot support well. One time watchable.

Dragon - Tamil - 4/5

This Pradeep Ranganathan is a delight to watch. People who have seen his ‘love today, would definitely love this flick too.

A well made movie with a very good subject, script and acting, music too. A subject that is well known but not made as a movie yet. Not a minute of lag or boredom. I’d say must watch.

He has got a trademark of acting which is actually the ones that gives the punch, the only crux is that will he continue to use that throughout in all his movies into future.

Sankranthiki Vasthunam – Comedy – 4/5 – Zee5

The Regional movies thread!-sankranthiki_vasthunnam_release_date2.jpg

I found this Venkatesh-starrer to be a laugh riot! It’s a no-logic, slapstick comedy with colorful visuals, energetic songs, and strong performances from the cast.

Venkatesh's comic timing was effortless, well supported by all supporting actors and female leads.

If you're looking for logic, this isn't for you. But if you just want to have fun, it’s a good pick. Also, the songs are peppy, and the vibrant cinematography adds to the festive mood.

Overall, this mobie is for comedy lovers who enjoy lighthearted, over-the-top entertainment!

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Movie : Rekhachithram
Genre : Thriller/Murder Mystery
OTT : Sony LIV

My Rating - 4.0/5

This is a very unique film and the director/creator has done an intelligent job of weaving the story with a film of 1985! All the actors have done a good job. If you are interested to watch a murder mystery then do definitely watch this movie.

Rekhachitram - Malayalam

The Regional movies thread!-hq720.jpg

Another cop thriller that manages to keep you hooked in, but credit is due for how the movie weaves in the narrative by hooking on to Malayalam movies and events from the past. Good background music coupled with good performances from the cast and there isn't much to complain about.

Manoj K Jayan was underutilised in my opinion, yet made his presence felt.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

CAUTION - I would recommend avoiding "Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal" on Amazon Prime. It's a weird movie.

Will share my review later this week.

Absolutely. He looked stylish yet menacing in that role.
