Re: The Regional movies thread!

Maharaja- Tamil- Netflix - Vijay Sethupathi, "Natty"

Watched this movie over the weekend after hearing rave reviews about it online. The movie doesn't disappoint. The climax is unexpected as mentioned everywhere. The screenplay is good. Vijay Sethupathi's narration reminded me of "Robo Shankar in Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran" though that movie was pure comedy while this is not.

The highlight of the movie and what blew me away was Natty's superb acting as a Police Inspector. I never expected his character to turn around so much nor did his acting give any clue about it. Amazing actor!!

-Vijay Sethupathi, as usual, is very good
-Anurag Kashyap matched upto Vijay Sethupathi. Never knew he could pull this off
-Having Mamta Mohandas for Asifa character is an overkill. They wasted her talent.
-Munish Kanth was good.
-Happy to see Boys Manikandan after long time. His acting is apt for the role. Neither too less nor too small
-Abhirami acting was also top notch. Infact I mistook her for Kajal Aggarwal in the opening scene

Overall a good movie to watch. Rating 4/5. Might make few people emotional. Beware!!

Indian 2- Tamil - Netflix - Kamal Hassan - Siddharth - Priya - Vivek

Huge disappointment as a whole. Too much back and forth references to Shankar's old movies. Unnecessary build up. Very bad screenplay.
Silver lining- Siddharth's acting, Priya's acting and Vivek's comedy

Rating - 1/5

Monster - Tamil - Prime - SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavanishankar, Karunakaran

Superb lighthearted movie. As usual, SJ Suryah's acting is amazing and he carries the entire movie superbly. Offlate, Priya's acting has been wonderful.

Overall a good movie to watch(with kids as well). Rating 4/5

SJ Suryah should make more movies to show his acting prowess. Truly a versatile actor.

Pazhanjan Pranayam - Rony David Raj, Vincy Aloshious and Azees Nedumangad

Those looking for a meaningful feel-good movie about regular human beings will enjoy this one. And lovely songs! It is after a really long time i saw a movie with meaningful hummable songs. So sad this one totally flew under the radar.

4/5

Happened to come across Tamil dubbed version of this movie in YouTube while casually searching for something to kill time . Turned out to be a good movie.
You miss 10 secs, you miss the plot. Very good non-linear script, Meghna Raj's acting was good. Couldn't recollect the name of actor who played the cop role. Very good acting. Overall a good thriller with required amount of twists.

Watched Golam over the weekend on Amazon Prime. Would rate it 4.5/5. It was refreshing to see a movie with a tight plot, great acting and minimal loop holes after a long time.

Orchestra Mysuru- started casually watching and turned out to be a good no-nonsense movie. I liked acting from lead characters and the movie somehow felt is showcasing the plight of good actors who did not get a breakthrough. Movie is available in Amazon prime.

The guy who played the cop is Prajwal Devaraj, son of veteran actor Devaraj from the Kannada film industry.

Very nice movie indeed!!

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Kannai Nambathey
Tamil
Netflix.

The movie started out brilliantly. A trusting young man has to get a house on rent as soon as possible. He finds such a house and in the evening goes to a bar with his new flatmate and friend.

Helps a lady who is trying to get home and is unable to drive.

After this the director decided that he does not want to make one movie, he wants to make 5 different movies.

But he has to connect all of them into this storyline.

Its like trying to untangle an "Idiyappam".

Reminded me of something that Javed Akhtar had said long back about how you need salt to make bread, but you dont make bread out of salt.

If only the director had used some restraint, this movie could have been so much better.

Raayan
Saw it on OTT and was really over the top, with major plot loop holes and could not finish the film.

GOAT - Tamizh

Draggy 1st half made worse with poor de-aging, horrible BGM and music; but 2nd half turns it all around. A good Edit and BGM, would have made the movie much better.

One only remembers Ilaya Thalapathy, when the movie finishes.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched Saripodha Sanivaaram, starring Nani, recently.

Liked the movie though 1st half felt bit slow. SJ Surya's acting is the biggest asset of this movie along with the BGM score.

My rating- 3.5/5

LAUGHING BUDDHA
- G T World Mall, Bengaluru

A Rishab Shetty production, this Kannada venture goes on beating about the bush till the end. Apart from some endearing scenes between the lead couple, there's hardly anything to savour (ergo, all movie goers are advised to pick up their tub of popcorn at the beginning itself, without waiting for the intermission!).

Diganth has been wasted here and Pramod Shetty underutilised. Although he essays a role similar to his real life gig, the top cop in the movie fails to deliver - either on the acting front or in terms of justice!

All in all, an avoidable watch.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

The GOAT (Tamil) - 4/5

Never came out of watching a Vijay movie in the past few years with so much satisfaction than this one. Vijay does a stellar performances and unlike the usual movies, this has some stuff in it. All credits to the director to bring in a fine balance between action, thriller, comedy, characters etc. The biggest relief was that this does NOT have Anirudh R music and BGM. Was bored to death with his usual chores. Yuvan Sankar though does not bring in some great stuff, but sounds better for a change. Overall, a good entertainer and of course it has all those unrealistic moments which is part of Vijay movies but can be ignored thinking how terrible the past movies (Beast?) were.

Maharaja (Tamil - Netflix): 5/5

A superb screenplay and stellar performances keep one engaged till the end. After getting stereotyped as a big, bulky villain in a few recent movies/OTT shows, Vijay Sethupathi is back with a bang and delivers a performance of a lifetime.

I can write more about how I felt after watching but that can lead to spoilers. The movie is rated 16+ on Netflix. So do please respect that and do not let younger children watch it. Movie and its central theme may also not be palatable to senior citizens.

Watched the Hindi version of it. For us Hindi movie goers, it was a delight to see Anurag working with south Indian movie stars.
