Re: The Regional movies thread!

Rocketry - The Nambi Effect

I must say, the movie was even better than what most of the reviews suggested. As others pointed out in this thread, the movie, especially the first half places a lot of emphasis on Dr. Nambi's work and contribution which I just love. I also found it appropriate that the movie didn't indulge too much into speculation and showed the facts as it is. It was a very nice mix of thriller, conspiracy, family relations and emotions!

It's interesting to see the struggles that India had to face in the 70s and 80s - shuttling around major powers for even basic technologies. It's important to remember that ISRO, as it stands today, was not a given and was built by the sweat and blood of people like Mr. Nambi. It's pretty evident which foreign power had its hand in initiating this scandal. Ironically, India joined the MTCR in 2016 with support from Russia, France and the US - the very same MTCR that the Americans had used as an excuse to prevent the export of cryogenic engine tech. Oh how the tables turn!

John Luther ( Malayalam, Manorama Max)

Excellent thriller , and a well made movie. Jayasurya has excelled in his role as the police officer. 4/5

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Kaduva (M) - Prime - 2/5

Not sure of anyone mentioned about this movies, not seeing at least in the past few pages.

Prithiviraj: "Bro, I want you to make a movie with me like you did in the past with Mohanlal. I will produce myself in the name of my wife."

Shaji Kailas: "Sure, I will and I also need a break. Like which ones, anything specific: Narasimham, Natturajavu, Alibhai, Aaram Thamburan, Vallyettan, Baba Kalyani...?"

Prithiviraj: "Probably a mix of all? What say?"

There happens Kaduva.

While Shaji Kailas aced as a director with his typical direction style and build ups, Prithiviraj simply didn't fit the bill. He simply tried to copy the mannerisms of Mohanlal in each and every frame he has in it and I simply couldn't digest it. Unnecessary fights and you will fall of the chair watching the many useless villains gets beaten up one by one by the hero. Just a movie for the fans.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watch Vikrant Rona in Kannada yesterday and it was decent although the hype around the movie made it seem like it did not deliver.

A lot of loose ends, but still makes up for it with the rest.

Rating 4/5.

I found John Luther to be pretty average. A decent watch I should say.

Got arm twisted in going to the movie and we (better half who is a passionate kannada cine buff) hated the movie. Felt it was all style over substance and too much of violence and gory scenes which could have been avoided.

Checked one of your list. Watched Andhagaaram last night and it was pretty engrossing. Loved the acting of the guy who played the blind Selvam.

Trying to find demonte colony next.

I would suggest couple of 90's Tamil Horror/slasher movies

1. Naalai Manithan
2. Adhisaya Manithan
Yes, It was indeed a slow burner but ultimately it was worth it. Good movie with some nice visuals and acting. I don't mind slasher movies but my wife is not too fond of them. Prefers supernatural horror movies

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Since much has been made out of the Nambi movie and the way he is being portrayed as a hero, I wanted to share this interview with a co-accused - another scientist from ISRO.

https://english.mathrubhumi.com/feat...case-1.7773941

I can't say whether Nambi was really guilty of the crime he was accused of, but as somebody who had followed the case from the start, I can say with conviction there is much more to this than meets the eye.

The Arbit Documentation of An Amphibian Hunt: Aavasavyuham - Rating 4/5 - Malayalam - Sony Liv

The Regional movies thread!-av.png

Watched this movie this week and really surprised the way the director tells the story. The movie is made in mockumentary style and in four parts. The movie can be classified as thriller, sci-fi or fantasy as well. The movie tell story of a person - Joy - who has some unusual connection with nature and appearing in three different places in Kerala. How the local reacts to him and how others take advantage of him while ecological issues from development so on.

All actors and technicians have done a wonderful job.

I would say this movie is a must watch for everyone.

Some people might not like it but I found it be to interesting. It was well made and loved how the interview was edited especially when the doctor connects it with the frogs and other species.

Something different.

Very true. This movie reminds me Fahad Fasil's comment on an interview. Malayalam movie industry is an industry any type of stories can be told.

If we watch the movie without much expectations or expecting a typical award film offering, it will be a different story.

Vijayan produced encumbrance certificates and the court contented that they need title deeds to prove ownership. Court ruled that Vijayan can petition again with the required documents. Looks like he wasn't able to procure the title deeds.

I think there is enough reason to order investigation if Nambi's name appears in the encumbrance certificate, but of course the court is always right, right? And good luck to Vijayan to procure the title deeds.

About the ISRO case in general, courts rule based on the evidences presented in front of them, and its not the court's job to go find evidence. Nambi's claim that the courts exonerated him are not true, as there was no trial. CBI filed a closure report saying that they didn't find "evidence" and the court accepted it.

Isn't that just a matter of applying to the SRO (via RTI, if required) for a certified copy and submitting it in the court?

(Btw, the court was talking of sale deed)
