My wife told me this was viral, and so we watched it too, adding to the views again. LOL! rl:

Madhavan's "Rocketry" deserves a lot of appreciation. Madhavan has engulfed himself in the role of Nambi Narayanan. Of course, if the events shown in the movie are to be believed, Wo Kaun Tha? should be the name for the sequel of "Rocketry".

Rocketry was very good. To be very honest, my knowledge of Nambi Nayaranan was restricted to the events around the scandal and the false accusations against him and the hard times he went through post that.

The film does a very good job of showing his knowledge and skill as a scientist. He was up there with the other stalwarts we know and talk about. Whether it is Homi Baba, Vikram Sarabai, Satish Dhawan, Dr Kalam to name a few. The movie rightly focuses on bringing this out and although the scandal is at the center of it, the movie as a whole dedicates less time to it which is smart movie making.

I also felt it maintained a right balance between the technology stuff and the human relations. The other recent series, 'Rocket Boys' was focused a little more on the personas of Homi Baba and Vikram Sarabai, and the recent movie Mission Mangal really dumbed things down.

Watched many movies on OTT in the last couple of weeks

Rocketry
The movie is very well made and kept as close to reality as possible. neither does it get too technical nor does it get too commercial. Madhavan's makeup as the elder Nambi is excellent. While we have many movies, documentaries about famous scientists, there are many such people who are hidden gems and the fact that this movie unearths one of those is appreciable.

There were small couple of things that I didn't like overall...

1) But because we see the real Nambi also in the same movie, we can see that Madhavan's Physique and body structure is too different to the real Nambi. This somehow doesn't match well with the scenes of the young Nambi. but these are minute things.

2) I always try to watch any movie in the original language that it is made in. So I started this in Tamil. in 5 minutes, my mother and wife also wanted to watch it and forced me to switch the audio to Kannada. That spoilt the experience to certain extent I guess because in pieces the audio was not available (not sure if it was the problem with the OTT app or the movie dubbing itself) and I got to listen to audio in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.

So I'll rate 4.5/5

Taledanda (Kannada)
This is a movie about a mentally challenged tribal boy and his struggle to save trees. Late Sanchari Vijay has given an exceptional performance as the lead actor. It is so sad that such a talented young actor is no more with us. I loved the way how the actors, locations, conversations appear very natural. The way the actors have delivered the tribal language and the dialects is really good. Story is simple and told neatly. The duration could've been shorter though

I'd rate this 3.5/5

19(1)(a) - Malayalam
Watched this yesterday on OTT and this was the shortest of all the movies but felt the longest. Even with all the slow motion scenes, the movie was only 100mins or so. But I kept on checking the time remaining many times.

In this story, a writer-activist is shot at and killed by two people on a bike-It's not a coincidence that the name of this writer is Gauri. "Section 19(1)(a) is the fundamental right of Freedom to speech. But anyone who speaks against the system is suppressed" is all the director wants to convey.

After all the hype and buildup for 90 minutes, the climax is a bummer. Lot of things are not said in words but shown in visuals. With Nithya menen and Vijay Sethupathi in the cast, I felt the movie could've been so good.

I felt Jana Gana Mana also kind of tries to give a similar message but was better than this in conveying that.

I'd rate it 1/5

Watched Rocketry: The Nambi Effect on Prime Video yesterday and man, I felt this is one of the best biopics to come out in the recent times. 4.5/5

The short, male rendition of the Venkatesa Suprabatham at the start gave me goosebumps! I’m glad they uploaded the complete version to YouTube. Listen to this:

https://youtu.be/P-4OtWtwOig

I’ll be honest though - I had never heard of this scientist or the ISRO spy case until I watched the movie. Quite an eye-opener! The shady politics really ruined it for the poor guy who in his might tried the best for ISRO and the country as a whole.

I wonder why there are no reviews of Saravanan Arul's - The Legend?.

Any recommendations on which theater to watch?. :D

Thanks for the link. Too used to listening to MS.

Loved the movie. Although I watched the Hindi version, also regional ;)

Great direction by Madhavan and makes you really feel for Nambi Narayanan and his family.

However, I could notice that as US usually says, everything related to missile/launch vehicles and nuclear power is somehow copied from them or from some single source. French could have collaborated or copied from US.

I used to follow the story in Frontline/Hindu when it happened and had assumed at that time he was guilty :sadface

I know a lot of negative reports on Vikram but I enjoyed the movie.
Especially love the background score.

Super stylized villains and a hero who never backs down. This was a fun watch. Looking forward to the next part of this where Suriya and Kamal would have a showdown.

EDIT:

Added the official link to the BGM.

I am expecting Karthi also in the sequel to Vikram. Wasn’t that a dialogue from his movie ‘kaidhi’ that was played towards the end? Before introducing Surya?

I watched Rocketry in Tamil and it was just too good. It moves you actually. I wonder what’s the ideal closure for Nambi? Hoping that the details of ‘who’ comes out soon.

And Gannu_1- thanks much for the suprabatham. MS has occupied the head since birth. This is so good to listen to.

Apparently this movie had better than decent opening in TN as people were curious to see what this movie is about.

If we go by Youtube reviews, it is a stress buster (you know what i mean).

There was a hint shown towards the end of the movie, so maybe it's known, but not proven? I hadn't followed the sequence of events around this, so the movie was quite enlightening for me.

The movie is a good watch, showcasing one of those rare occurrences where justice is delivered and a good man exonerated.

However, how do you guys perceive the scenes where Nambi takes a contingent of scientists to France and surreptitiously tries to bring back technological details?

Don’t professional ethics matter when one is trying to serve the best interests of the nation?

PS: Not casting aspersions; just trying to understand different perspectives.

From the reviews I saw, I’m led to believe that this is a sequence of 30 seconds commercials throughout, and stitched as a movie. Some say that this Movie is beyond cringe.

Now, this sort of feedback is exactly what enthuses me to take a watch. It’ll be hard to stop me from watching it to see what is so grossly wrong about ‘Legend’. rl:

Let us know what you think after watching the movie. We might watch when it drops in OTT.

Me too. I can’t wait for it to stream on an OTT. No ways am I going to spend money in a theatre for this.
