Loved the parts where Sethupathi was in his elements. For example, the bathing scene where he's talking/threatening the other Vijay, while also 'grooming' his hair to form two devilish horns

It basically went down completely in the 2nd half. First half was watchable, atleast the parts with Sethupathi in the lead.

Totally agree on both counts. Somehow I am not too convinced on the roles Tovino has picked up - Forensic being one, and this one too.

Master was a disaster. Absolutely cliched, no story line. Of course, with Vijay's movies, story line are completely missing in recent times. The last movie which was worthwhile to watch was Gilli.

However Vijay Sethupathi has been amazing. You want to hate him in this movie for his character, but then he is charming in a rustic sense that you dont hate him. And yes, the grooming in bath scene - the only high point of the move

Rating 0.5/5

I think he will shine more in negative characters and would love to see him more in that shade.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Master (Tamil) was a complete disaster!

Absolutely a 'leave-your-brains-outside' commercial movie. No logic in the was police control the jail, they do not even seem to be controlling who or what can enter the jail Anybody keeps walking in, anything is available inside, and worst of all the Police department calls out to 'Master' for help in dire situations as if he is the new DSP in town!

So many wasted actors too - Andrea (don't get me started on her laughable contribution towards the end); Santhunu, Naser, the girl who did Trisha's younger version in 96, even Arjun Das was under-utilized.

The only saving grace of the movie was Vijay Sethupathi's performance. Even his characterization and actions had nothing to do with the actual plot of the movie.

[Kilometres and kilometres - Malayalam, Netflix]

Ridiculous coming-of-age movie. Not worthy of even holding a candle to the other Malayalam movies of the genre. Slow-paced, irritating and at places, downright insulting our intelligence.

There seems to be a line of thinking among Malayalam movie makers that making characters speak risible English is a good thing. It is not. It is pathetic.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Krack on AHA Telugu movie with English subtitles.

Krack was the first major Telugu movie to release in the theatres for Sankranthi 2021.
The producer sold its OTT rights to AHA and it was expected that it would hit the streaming app on 29th Jan - 2 weeks after its theatrical debut.
However the movie turned out to be a great success and the distributors requested the app to delay the movie release by a week and it dropped today 5th Feb.

This movie is a total mass masala entertainer with lot of good bits to keep one hooked.
The hero has had a string of disappointing releases in the past couple of years and this movie once again brings him to his entertaining best.
Samuthirakani as always shines in every role he does and does complete justice as the villain here.

Do watch it for an fun filled evening.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

‘Master’ in Tamil was an absolute time waste. If not for Sethupathi, I would have turned it off. He’s done such a fab job.

As for Vijay, what more do I say. His dialogue delivery and mannerisms and body language are almost the same in each of his movies. It’s getting boring watching him. I feel sorry for his fans.

Totally agree! Kinda rare to see such stupidity from the Malayalam film industry these days, but once in a while they do, just to contribute to the law of averages.

Master (Tamil) and Kilometres and Kilometres (Malayalam)

Enough has been said about both movies.

Absolute waste of time.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Drishyam 2 - 3.5/5

As much as I didn’t want to watch the movie with super high expectations, I crashed early yesterday and kept an alarm for 3:45 AM. Quickly made a cup of tea and set out to watch the sequel today.

The first half nicely sets the premise for the sequel set 6 years later. Nice family banters of Georgekutty constantly haunted by the cops’ wailing sirens and nightmares of ex-IG Geetha Prabhakar from time to time. In the later half, tension begins to rise once the cat is out of the bag. Some unexpected twists (but not like the climax of the first one) and they give it a decent enough closure.

The first movie sets the bar too high, the audience obviously expects the sequel to better it. Just like the Bahubali series. Not quite like the first one still watchable. 👍🏻

I missed Constance Sahadevan (Kalabhavan Shajon) in this one. The first one did have a major impact due to the guy.

Do watch. It doesn’t disappoint. You know, every mallu and his brother were waiting for this sequel for long. Now Kamal Haasan, Ajay Devgn and Ravichandran will. For the respective remakes.

Drishyam 2 (Malayalam): 3.5/5
Watched at 6am . The movie meandered for an hour and 10 mins. I got bored. Then it picks up slightly, and delivers a knock out performance in the end. Good watch

You missed Venkatesh🙂

I thought of not watching this sequel as first part set the bar very high.
