Another thing, we went to Inox @ Bangalore Central. I'm not sure if the issue with the theater's Screen or the movie itself. There were no details in the dark scenes (or even the hairs of the characters looksed like blobs of black), eyes were dark and the whole scenes were very blocky and pathetic contrast. Not sure if the movie itself was shot in a substandard way or it's the screen and projection at Inox which was not calibrated properly. Overall, a very unsatisfying experience.
I suppose you went for the 3D version. All 3D movies suffer from this.

I went in for the 2D version of Don2 and had a good time. Yes, the movie did not live to the standards that Farhan Akhtar has previously done, but it wasnt bad either. Ending was a drag with the coochie cooie scenes of SRK and Priyanka. It was absolutely not needed, DON is supposed to be ruthless. 7/10 from my side. And yes, I found DON 1 to be better.

No man, it was 2D version. I can understand that details go missing in 3D, atleast in our Cinemas but the way the movie looked was bad. So I guess the issue is with Theater/Screen of Inox.

Re: The English Movies Thread

I know its a copy...oops! inspired by Italian Job.

But why do they have to use the vintage for whatever stunt they do in The film.

This is what is called 'Nakal ke liye bhi akal chaiye' !!

^ Abbas Mustan style thriller :-D
Expect few super (ridiculous) twists to distinguish from original

Oh man....a total disaster this was. The one time they get the rights to remake a movie and they screw it up. Only similarity I could see was a few scenes here and there and the lead character's name of Charlie.

As for the typical Abbas Mustan twist tale, again disappointed with that. All the while I expected Bobby Deol's role to be the surprise twist in the end but nothing happened. Neil Nitin Mukesh's attempt at being a baddie was humorous. Vinod Khanna's role as Donald Sutherland could have been better. Johnny Lever was not at all needed in the movie.

The climax- i think even i could have come up with a better ending for the movie than what they have come up with.

To sum up I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

'Agneepath'. (Remake)

Inspite of inconsistent direction,haphazard
screenplay 'the Agneepath' remake is watchable.
Its a Hritik Roshan movie all the way. Special
mention for the spine chilling background score.
That is the selling point of this movie.
Rest was ok. Not as convincing as the legendary
original.
Performance was good by OmPuri,Rishi Kapoor
and some others.
Sanjay Dutt looked menancing but act was the mediocre.
Overall a good timepass affair.
Hritik's act is different from Amitabh's act in the original version but he delivered in his own way.

3/5

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

A couple of weeks ago saw " Players" starring the swanky bollywood gang

After Race, I thought AM would come up with an even better and slicker flick but, this one compared to Race was terrible

Story itself was too lame which was about stealing gold from a moving train between Russia and Romania as none of the actors looked professional in what they were outlined for e.g :-

Bipasha Basu as a locomotive engine expert who builds a turbo charged locomotive engine. Woah! Can anyone beileve that?

AB who is just the leader with no special skill. I really wonder why movie makers take this lack-lustre, awkward and gangly looking debacle in movies.

Sikhander Kher with his hayward hair and zero acting looked like a weirdo from a hippy act.

That 3-idiots fella simply gets on my nerves with his heavy indian accent

NNM was the only saving grace. He is very handsome, stylish and decent dailogue delivery. He should be given some serious roles

The mini coopers race was not filmed too well and Johnny Lever was wasted in a miniscule role.

WARNING : Dont even think of watching it on a DVD. I wasted my money in a theatre but, its not worth the free time on a DVD also.

0.5/5 ( Only for a bit of style and locales)

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Agneepath

Saw the much hyped tribute to the 1990 original yesterday. What would have been a very good movie is totally ruined by the pace and the length of the 2nd half. The movie is inspired by the 1990 movie - but has a different take on it with a couple of characters being done away with and new ones being introduced.

Performances are first class by everyone. Rishi Kapoor leads the way with an out and out negative evil character and does full justice. Sanjay Baba is the king in these maniacal villian type roles and his persona justifies the role he gets - he literally fills up the screen everytime he walks into it. I had my reservations about Hrithik playing a chawl wala middle class because of his looks but boy he surprised me - look and acting right up there. Priyanka Chopra's track is quite irritating (similar to Rohini hattangadi's in the original)

Music is so-so - only Chikni Chameli and the Ganesha song stand out. I loved the picturisation of the ganesha song.

But the 2nd half drags and how !! Priyanka's track and a whole slew of songs slow down the pace and at a point you simply want the movie to end or hope for a fast forward button.

Verdict - 2.5/5 - Watch it for some very good performances.

ps - Also saw that Abbas-Mustan remake of the The Italian Job - my opinion is that they made a bast$%^ised version of the original.

Chikni Chameli... that is a horrible song isnt it? Katrina is a bad choice for these kind of song and looked completely out of place!

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I watched Don2 in 2D well the movie is disappointing. Don1 was good but this movie is just nowhere. The dialogues were silly, the script was just about okay but lacked proper direction. They wasted money shooting abroad, you can definitely feel the pinch in the special effects. After the first half hour i felt i was watching a B grade hollywood flick on UTV. I happened to watch Murder 2 later on and what a difference !! Do not want to discuss Murder 2 but it had the essentials right which Don2 so lacked. Maybe Farhan Aktar fell asleep ?

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Agneepath (2012)

Making a remake is no mean feat. You have to satisfy critics as well as fans without disturbing the original. This one is a very good remake by Bollywood standards. The adaptation is extremely beautiful or might i say intense and grueling. If we compare both side by side, it would be doing injustice to both the movies.

The screenplay is good. Introducing Rishi kapoor as Lala was the master stroke imho. There are several new elements in this that makes it stand on its own. The first half is fast and second a little bit slow. Background music is exceptional. 2-3 songs are great, rest can be skipped. Chikni Chameli is foot tapping, KK looks hot. The Ganesha song and abhi mujh mein kahin are worth listening too. Cinematography is top notch.

The old one was an out an out AB's movie. Similar its out and out HR all the way. The expressions, the body language be it while crying, laughing, killing, taking revenge are spot on and shows how much he has worked on it since KNPH days. The eyes of HR reveals a lot and the personality is certainly not wasted. The movie also made sure he showed his physique without overdoing it. The way his physique is shown at end is awesome. Made me hit the gym right away. He stands tall against big wigs like Rishi and Sanju. I can't imagine any body could do role of Kancha as good as Sanju did. Great personality, great dialogs and a great competitor to HR. Special mention of Rishi kapoor as he has acted superbly for his age. I would say, its the actors and their acting that took this movie to an all time high. Priyanka's role is sweet, doesn't demand any histrionics. Om puri is at his best but his role is wasted.

There are some negatives too. It gets slow in between. The have concentrated on family drama too which can get boring for some. Though i loved how they showed the love between bro and sis when they meet for first time, interaction of mother and son and all that. It is heavy and a little bit gory especially for female audience so it may not go down well with them. Comparisons are bound to happen so it will be hard to satisfy all audiences. Remove other songs and make the movie shorter.

Watch it for once. And to enjoy it fully, forget the original. You will love it. That's what i did and i had fun.

4.5/5.

The above quote is absolutely correct . Saw this yesterday and true to its hype, it is definitely legendary in it's own sense.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Last friday, watched "Ghali Ghali Chor Hai" starring Akshay Khanna, Shriya, Satish Kaushik and Annu Kapoor

It's a story of a simple middle class cashier in Bhopal who gets entangled in a web of deceit and corruption for simply denying a local politician a room for their political party activities.

The movie begins on a very promising note and is quite hilarious till almost 70% of the length but, loses steam thereon. However, we need more such movies which majority of the people can relate to and an amazing humorous satire on corruption riding the wave of AH movement

Akshay in his formal clothes with sport shoes riding a ghastly and broken down chetak/super scooter was excellent in his role and he almost fits in because of his average looks

Shriya's debut in hindi movie was good and she too makes an impact with her role. Cant say the same thing about Mugdha Godse who is average

Satish Kaushik was the real hero of the movie. He flitted easily between comedy, seriousness and anger with an ease of a well established actor

Annu Kapoor was a close second with his slimy cop character who's sole intention is to fleece Akshay

Overall, a neat and clean satirical comedy and much enjoyable than the flashy no-brains so-called action thrillers that are regularly churned out

3.5/5

Shriya has already acted in movies like Awarapan and Mission Istanbul, so this is not the first Hindi she acted in.

Anyway thanks for the review. Looks like a decent timepass flick
