Yaatris
OTT : Qatar Airlines
4.5/5

I would rate any movie which stars Raghubir Yadav 4+ as there is a certain charm and different layers (naivety, emotional, funny) that he brings to every one of his character which I don't think any other star can bring to the screen.

A simple story of a lower middle class family going on their first ever vacation abroad and how they bumble through this vacation and enjoy the moments of being together as a bickering family is the crux of the story.

Absolutely loved the performance of Raghubir and Seema. I felt rest of the cast was a misfit including Johnny Lever's daughter (Jamie).

Overall, a nice light movie to be enjoyed with family.

P.S : If you have not seen CLUB 60 of Raghubir Yadav. It is highly recommended. It's one of my favorite movies of this actor.

Naadaniyan

Streaming: Netflix

Another film on nepo kids and the way they are educated in some high class schools. Only Karan Johar would have the audacity to launch the nepo kids splurging money on lavish sets when the kids cannot even act, such wooden face characters. Ibrahim Ali khan should not have used the usual RomCom films to get launched. Pathetic film plot, seasoned actors like Dia Mirza, Archana Puran Singh getting wasted. Avoid at all costs

Rating: 1/5

Fateh

Streaming: Hotstar

One more point and shoot, spill blood movie. I guess Sonu Sood as actor and Director took the Equalizer series too much seriously and based the movie on the film and character. But at times the action scenes were OK but most of them times laughable. Naseeruddin Shah seems to be doing films for money I guess, talent such as his, Vijay Raaz totally wasted. The movie could have highlighted the social theme in a much better way but took a wrong turn altogether. Avoid.

Saw Kangana's latest movie, as I'm a big fan of the actress & political flicks. The movie is average at best, Kangana's voice & speech will make you laugh at times. I still sat through the movie as there is a lot of real-life political drama, but seriously, just wait for it to come on Netflix.
I waited and saw this on Netflix. fully agree on the review. I was expecting to have some power punches given the so-called Aura of Indira Gandhi. However, this movie eventually seemed to focus on the dark side more than anything.

To be honest, I did not know much about Sanjay Gandhi till I saw this movie.

Average movie at best. Avoidable too to an extent.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Once again getting floored by the Malyalam cinema, hindi dubbed movies. Watched a slew of their movies with and without big names(Mamooty and Mohanlal) and still enjoyed every bit of it.
They come up with such classy movies, a departure from the regular love and marriage dramas of most film industries. This kind of inspires me to learn Malyalam as a language. I can only imagine about their films not dubbed in hindi.

Thrillers/Suspense
Bougainvillea(4/5), Sookshmadarshini(3.5/5), Rekhachithram(3.5/5), Kishkindha Kaandam(4/5), Officer on Duty(4/5) All excellent thrillers. Specially liked the plot of Kiskindha kandam and the story telling of Officer on duty.

Kishkindha Kandam reminds that apart from all the abilities that man(human being) has one of the most underrated and important one is the ability to forget.

Kaathal – The Core(4.5/5) Brilliantly handled and narrated a difficult theme while still maintaining intrigue in the first half. Superb drama except the last scene where it gets over the top cheesy.

Also watched The Mehta Boys by Boman Irani. Touching take on father son relationship. Again brilliant. This was one of the few recent hindi movie that I liked after Three of Us.

All the films mentioned above are available on one or the other OTT platforms.

Emergency

What a wasted opportunity. A very poorly made movie with even worse acting. I never liked Kangana Ranaut as an actor, but she really outdid herself. Some scenes were just laughable!

Deva

Streaming: Hotstar

Expecting a good thriller movie from Hindi is becoming next to impossible after having watched so many Malayalam movie who have set the bar so high. Totally disappointed with this movie. I now need to see the original Malayalam movie to get over this crap movie. The so called maniacal acting of Shahid Kapoor seems so childish. The only sliver lining was a cameo by Upendra Limaye who seems to be enjoying the guest appearance roles in Hindi movies. Pooja Hegde had no role to play except fill in the blanks at times.

Just rectify - The movie is available on Netfilx, not JIO Hotstar. Furthermore, "Deva" is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film "Mumbai Police". There was a little twist where the climax changed from the original, but the soul remained the same.

.
I fully agree that the ratings are personal in choice . Rekhachithram is actually better, but it cannot be appreciated in a dubbed version since the core of the movie revolves around a song from a yester year malayalam movie that has a kind of cult following.

Thanks for the feedback. It will be helpful if you can share OTT details.

We need to ask the Mods to create a format for sharing reviews here that should include OTT platform information.

It saves time of searching on google which OTT platform these movies/series are related.

Just my 2 cents.

The story had exciting twists and turns but, the later part of the movie was quite cliched like any other action movie. They should have played it little more subtle.

Overall, an excellent movie from the Mollywood stable.

The Hindi Movies Thread-1.jpg

Why does Bollywood need the big guns! I think guys like this should come up with more movies. This guy (Adarsh Gourav) had rocked in “White Tiger” and the same can be said here. Everyone else supported him really well especially Shashank Arora. Never knew this was based on actual story.
Loved this one.
Rating - 5/5. Highly recommended. (Amazon Prime - On rent)

Saw this movie on Monday at the theatres and it was quite packed. Good movie, but I was surprised by the movie format. As it is PVR has really small screens, the movie print is even smaller, which kind of made for a home TV experience. Apart from that the first half of the movie was great. The second half, if it is really based on facts, is forgivable cause you could see it coming from a long way where it was heading.
