This nepo kids argument/ term always comes up in the case of movie stars only and not in any other profession. I often wonder why ?
Maybe because its easy, lots of money, results dont matter to keep getting opportunities. In other areas there is still some risk involved. Movies are too easy, even modelling has become their domain now and we are bombarded with their images everywhere.

Look at the kind of movies being made, acting department etc. Yesterday I watched Stree 2. Rajkumar Rao should start taking part of movie's business as remuneration. Show me one nepo kid who can act like him (or even their parents ). He has enacted so many roles and proved that acting doesnt need looks.

ULAJH on Netflix.

Janhvi Kapoor has done a good job in portraying vulnerability and intensity both, in her role as a young diplomat thrust into the dark web of espionage. She is definitely maturing as an actress with every performance.

The movie definitely has a ton of kinks and the edges are not all well-rounded, but all-in-all, a one-time watch for sure.

The ending hinted at a sequel in the works, that would be an interesting storyline.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I felt ULAJH was just about watchable. The storyline was a good one, but I felt it was poorly executed. The whole climax and post climax was way too dramatic. Felt the makers were undecided between making it a proper no nonsense thriller or throw in some mass entertainment moments for Janhvi Kapoor. Janhvi Kapoor is definitely a much improved actor now, but having said that there are a number of actors who would have done a better job and made the movie a better watch.

Stree 2.

I saw this movie without much expectation. Movie is full of innuendo and slapstick comedy. Some of them land and the others are kind of ok.

The movie is definitely not for viewing with kids.
Some of the lines are extremely corny and I think the main reason behind the huge success of this movie at the box office.

This is not exactly a review of the movie but rather a PSA for parents like me who planned on watching this with kids over the weekend.

Apurva on HotStar
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt25434258/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

***.5 / *****

Simple plot; but good acting by almost all characters. Rajpal Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee; solid performance; decent paced and am pleasantly surprised.

Worth a one time watch.

I find imdb's parents guide section quite helpful to decide if a movie is ok for kids:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2751017...ef_=tt_stry_pg

or commonsensemedia but not sure if they cater to Indian movies.

I do check imdb but in the case of this movie the list on that website does not do justice to the amount of such dialogues and sequences.

Or maybe I am just becoming a lot more conservative as I am getting older.

I think that's a bit of a generalization isnt ? Most of the Indian 'Woods have had their fair share of film dynasties. In fact, interestingly, the typical plot line of the 60s/70s/early 80s was a middle class educated person (played by star kids on many occasions) who cannot get a job unless he has a "sifarish " or recommendation, which in today's lingo is- you guessed right.
But we never balked at Shashi Kapoor standing up to Amitabh in Deewar. We all enjoyed Sunny Deol (still do) in his robust and impactful movies.

Our problem is that we are not willing to wait for these actors to blossom or fail. And we have too much information on our fingers, which makes us react to anything and everything about some of these star kids. Eventually time will decide their professional fate.

KHEL KHEL MEIN on Netflix

I started watching Khel Khel Mein with little to no expectations, partly because of Akshay Kumar’s recent streak of underwhelming films and the trailer, which hinted at yet another formulaic story we’ve seen a few times in recent years. I was hoping to fast-forward through it or abandon and add it to the long list of unfinished content on my Netflix homepage.
However, this film turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable watch. Maybe it was my low expectations or the movie's underperformance at the box office due to the Tsunami of Stree 2, but I found Khel Khel Mein to deliver more laughs than Stree 2(most of the punches were already given out in the Stree trailer). The cast nailed some well-timed punches, and there were a few one liners that had me genuinely laughing. Predictable in most parts with some unexpected twists, had fun watching this relaxed and light hearted film with friends. Definitely a one time watch.

P.S.- On a different note, just like the case of Stree 2, Singham Again has taken the art of trailers to a whole new level. The 5-minute trailer basically shows you almost the full plot, including cameos and probably all twists. Hollywood has been guilty of this for some time now, but Singham seems to have set a new bar! Now, it feels like I’ve already seen the movie—just without the overpriced popcorn. Guess I’ll skip the theater experience and maybe just wait for the deleted scenes instead! Also, the trailer hints that Deepika outshines Rohit Shetty's cars in the acting department.

Bollywood just can't make original content for some reason. Its not like the 90s when we couldn't catch hold of any international movies. There should be a disclaimer stating *this is a remake* while promoting the film itself.

I watched this yesterday and broadly agree. But my view is that kids understand what they understand - my 6 y-o is all impressed about the head throwing bits.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Jigra with the family at PVR on Dussehra day.

Contrary to social media reports, all screens were packed.

The movie itself definitely stretches the boundaries of disbelief and practicality. The makers have gone a tad too far in taking creative liberty to portray Alia Bhatt as a protagonist in the Action Hero mould.

The emotional angle of the story is far overshadowed by the incredulous happenings in the film. Would have personally liked to see the makers explore the depths of the brother-sister equation.

The action scenes are stretched toward the climax and one's patience starts wearing thin.

Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina have delivered good performances as actors; so also, Manoj Pahwa, in his full element.

The movie is slated to release on OTT soon; so you are not missing anything much by not spending the bucks to catch this at a theatre.

Stree 2

Watched this on prime, the plot isnt any gripping one and the movie entirely relies on the acting part. RajKumar Rao is the most underated actor currently and its a treat to watch his expressions and dialogue delivery, will surely put to shame a lot of nepo kids out there. The other star of the movie was Abhishek Banerjee, what an actor. Pankaj Tripathi was Ok and so was Shradda Kapoor. Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan seem to have forced their entries in this movie. All in all a good watch

Khel Khel mein

Streaming: Netflix

With such a star cast it was bound to be hotchpotch movie. Unnecessary elements thrown in, the movie plot could have a decent thriller but the producer decided to make a mass movie instead. Acting wise none were standouts. Akshay kumar's choice of bad films continue. Can be skipped.

Rating:2/5

Ulajh

Streaming: Netflix

I was expecting a nice thriller but the title confused me as it has no relevance to the movie plot. Jahnvi Kapoor seems to be improving in her acting dept but will need some real good scripts to come out of the nepo aura. Can be skipped.

I saw the movie in Prime (saw it is available in Hotstar too). I didn't have high expectations but thought this will be a good one-time watch, looking at the success it had. I was disappointed and didn't find it interesting except Rajkummar Rao. I seriously need less of Akshay Kumar - the guy needs to take a break.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Stree-2 on Prime.

Average movie. Not grippy, neither intense nor a straight forward comedy. Neither here not there. Some one liners land well but overall not a movie which can be termed as unmissable. Part 1 was much better. Even an actor like Pankaj Tripathi has failed to leave any mark. A faint star in the movie is Rajkumar Rao- give or take. Rest all are just very average.

Rating it 2.5/5
