Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I had watched the Gujarati original, and was hooked. In Hindi maybe its miscast and diluted. Haven't watched.

Laapataa Ladies

The Hindi Movies Thread-a1.jpg

This was a really good watch. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Pretty good acting by all.

Rating - 4.5/5 (Netflix). Highly recommend.

Kaagaz 1 & 2

The Hindi Movies Thread-a4.jpg

The first part was pretty decent with good acting and a relevant topic while the second movie had some unwanted side story. Pretty good attempt by Satish.

Rating - 3/5 (Zee5 and Prime). Watchable.

Shaitan

The Hindi Movies Thread-a5.jpg

I almost watched this in the theater but decided to wait since I never gamble with Ajay Devgn's movies. Glad I did. It was one major snooze fest. Madhavan was bad (better of the lot), Ajay and Jyothika was super bad but the young girl was pretty decent. No idea what they were trying to convey with the story - Yes, I did get the general idea but what was that.

Rating - 1/5 (Netflix). Avoid.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I had a chance to watch both of the recent additions on Netflix - Article 370 as well as Laapata Ladies over the weekend.

Article 370 - Amazingly done, especially the makeup / casting for politicians portrayed. No unnecessary emotional drama or propaganda being pushed, just great movie making which keeps one on the edge of the seat.

My parents had watched this over at the theatre when it had released, and they had similar positive feedback.

A great 9/10 for the movie but 10/10 for the courage to take such a sensitive topic and make sure that it is not diluted.

Laapata ladies - Such a nice little movie, this is a gem. The character development especially as the movie progresses, was so refreshing. Special points to the ending, reminded me of Stree which is another favorite.

Almost perfect 10/10.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Laapataa Ladies is such a fantastic watch. This is the kind of movie that should make 100s of crores. Ravi Kishan is so good in that climax. Watched it 2-3 times.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Another thumbs up from me, for Laapataa Ladies. Simple story, brilliantly executed, and you just cant help but adore some of those characters. Be it Phool with her innocence, Deepak or even Manju Maai - the tea stall lady.. some characters just leave an impact.

Highly recommend this one for watch with family.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Laapataa Ladies - 5/5

Simple story, genuine effort from every actor, no over the top-acting or dialogues or even an iota of attempt to do so. Kind of what movies should be ideally. Reflect ground realities in a simple manner and not try to do everything in 3 hours.

I just couldn't find any fault in the movie and hence 5/5.

Fighter - 1/5

Same old Bollywood shit****ery. Watched it with hope that I may see some good special effects or some good acting by Anil Kapoor or Rishabh Sawhney. But this was a totally worthless movie. Everyone (Deepika, Hrithik, Karan, etc) was there just to do the usual show-off, over the top dialogues, etc. Kind of another Karan Johar movie this was.

Not that Top-gun was any different (in Hollywood terms), but at-least the story was original and execution was excellent. In this case, nothing was original in the movie.

1 star for anyone who loves such masala films.

Amar Singh Chamkila - 4/5

What a wonderful execution this is. Imtiaz Ali has done a wonderful job in the way the movie is made. The way the story is narrated, the way the characters unfold and show their side. I would have given it 3/5 but this movie gave me glimpse of what used to be a reality in Punjab back in the day. I never knew anyone by the name Amar Singh Chamkila (or Dhani Ram) and had no idea of such a market (of standup singing for vulgar/obscene songs) being prevalent. Of-course mainly because I was just a kid in those days in Mumbai and had no connection to Punjab. But through this movie, I got informed of some interesting part of history in an entertaining way. This felt like one sided narration though and hence 4/5. Wish to see more such content being produced/made.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Movie : Article 370
OTT : Netflix

Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 is a well-made film which sticks to stating facts as and when they happened, backed by careful and exceptional research, and that's where the movie truly wins.

There is no overacting or drama. The movie is separated into six chapters , each chapter with a real sequence of events and the reactions of the ruling political party, opposition party, terrorists, and, of course, Kashmiri locals. The narrative is simple, intense, and written in such a way that everyone can understand the complex Article 370.

Yami Gautam and Priya Mani , two powerful women who handle the majority of the workload, have an impact. These two ladies are the two forces propelling this powerful narrative, and the film informs, educates, and keeps you interested for the most part.

It's a worthwhile viewing, in my opinion, since the film manages to make a big impression and adds a great deal to the conversation on one of the most important historical periods in recent memory.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Laapata Ladies - Top movie. The story and characters are all so natural and great movie in recent times 5/5

Shaitaan - Me and wife just fast forwarded the movie after 20 minutes. Madhavan is miscast and his body language and speech seemed disconnected. Others are equally bad and the movie is too long 0/5

Manjummel Boys - Good movie. Guess the hype reduced the viewing experience. I think the thriller part is missing, thought it was like Cliffhanger ! Again the initial part of the movie was loud and added to the length of the movie. 4/5

Indian movies should reduce the length to 90 minutes.

Thanks! Best seats in the house indeed.

We recently visited the drive-in cinema, purely for the experience, than the movie itself. Here are our observations:

+ Very well managed and organized
+ Decent food options, and clean restrooms
+ The experience can be pretty fun, you can make a picnic out of it, or have a private date within the car
+ Decent projection quality, and sound through the car stereo

- Poor acoustics if you're outside the car
- A lot of people inadvertently step on the brake; the brake lights are very bright and harsh (esp. given the darkness) on those sitting behind - I had to remind the car in front of us thrice to take his foot off. A similar problem to a lesser degree with cars that have bright DRLs
- MOSQUITOES! Makes sitting outside almost impossible. They do have mosquito repellant vapour every few metres, but it can't be effective, given that it's open air
- The rows are for sedans and SUVs alternately and a lot of people don't follow that (as in GTO's image as well). Off chance that your view is hindered if a tall SUV is parked in front of you, when ideally that row is for sedans

This experience is best if you're going as a couple. Any more, and someone has to sit out, and the mosquitoes won't allow that.

I carried camping chairs just so we could chill outside; alas, mosquitoes made them useless

Also got kids to check out the balcony seating

It's pretty decent in the car, but poor if you're sitting in the open. They have speakers every few metres but being open air, you can't hear dialogues well.

+1 for Madgaon Express.

The movie would have been way more fun had it been tad shorter, with better editing and cinematography.

Shaitaan is carbon copy of Gujarati movie "VASH" which was release in Feb 2023. Bollywood is an expert in CUT-COPY-PASTE business.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Yodha. Not sure why big production houses like Dharma Productions make such sub standard movies.I can understand them wanting to do commercial masala movies, but atleast try to do it well. No originality, barely there story line, absolutely paying no attention to detail. Some of the technical stuff being done on the plane was like doing things on a 10 year old autorickshaw or something. Atleast try to get some technical things right!! Vfx is also poor. Apart from the action on the plane which was barely tolerable, the rest of it was terrible.

Fighter was far far better..Which is a low bar by itself.

You guys have nailed it perfectly. The film did not have anything going right. Siddharth Malhotra tried to give it all for the character but it was not anything to save the film. Raashi Khanna did not have any meat to her role. The funny part was the plot which was totally opposite to what happens in this genre films. All in all a totally forgettable movie.

Madgaon Express

Streaming: Amazon

What was expected to be a laugh riot turned out to be a damp squib. The story could have been so much better but the treatment was utterly bad. Good actors like Divyendu sharma and Pratik Gandhi are made to look like clowns. Less said about Nora Fateh the better. The only saving grace to the movie was Upendra Limaye the Marathi actor, he brings the only laughs in the movie. What an actor, he did that brief but effective role in Animal and here he tries to carry the film. If Remo Dsouza thinks he can think, he should think twice and do what is his forte (dancing and choreography). On time watchable if no other good movie available as option.

Madgaon Express on Prime Video.

The trailer had seemed promising and was expecting this to be a Golmaal or Dhol type comedy; however, it ultimately turned out to be an absolute bummer! All expectations of this being a laugh riot fell flat. Managed to elicit barely any laughs for that matter.

Rating: 2/5

Zara Hatke Zara Bachke on JioCinema.

Decent watch. Vicky Kaushal has really shaped-up to be a good actor. Sara Ali Khan has done a good job in this one. The plot will resonates well with a large part of our population, especially the young middle-class which aspires to have a home of their own, at all costs!
