Two of the Ranbir Kapoor movies have so much of Hollywood in them. This one is inspired by John Wick based on what I have seen in a trailer (no intention to watch it in a theatre).

His earlier movie, Brahmastra, had mindless crossover elements that was probably inspired by Avengers Infinity Wars (part 1 of avengers 3). SRK as a scientist being added to the script for a crossover flavour just like Tiger in Pathan and Pathan in Tiger.

Please leave behind your brain, to watch this senseless one man army soft porn movie.

I wanted to come away within the first hour, but suffered as had gone with wife and her friends .

Have you watched John Wick? Or any other similar mindless action flick?

That is what it is based on. Some stupid action scenes, larger than life money, status, following & toys, over the top dialogues or songs and high usage of stereotypes, racist or sexist comments, etc. Basically everything negative that you may have seen/experienced in life, all cramped into a 3 hour flick. But in a funny way.

Really stupid direction that many of these recent movies are taking. At the end it is all just a high profile Promo driven success that producers want. So you will continue to see some such similar movies in coming years now.

Rating (personal opinion): -1

This is the trashiest inspiration of John wick then. Like I mentioned before director failed miserably in that because in John wick from the start it's established that High table is ultimate power and that's why all the assassin's under it are exempt from law and order stuff as law keeps a blind eye on them.

In Animal in the start itself they establish this family is based in Delhi with full law and order stuff which is mentioned by Anil Kapoor itself. Can't go in depth as it will be a spoiler. However, not once Ranbir faces any consequences or there is even a mention of any consequence in regards to law and order. There are many scenes where no matter how much money you have you can't escape from law and media. Director conveniently forgets about it.

Leave alone Delhi, even in London it seems police were taking a nap all the time.

On another note I want to watch Sam bahadur but wife is busy so lesse. Have heard Vicky is doing great and movie is a decent watch.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Sam Bahadur

Really liked the movie! But I went in expecting to like the movie since it's about one of my favorite legendary heroes. So this review is biased.

One review said it plays out like an Amar Chitra Khata storyline and that is very true. It's more a series of clips trying to cover the life of the Field Marshal, and hitting all the high notes that have passed into our lore. To be very objectively honest, the recently released 'Napoleon' was the same but had a much grander scale and I didn't like that about that movie. But I did like this one. Again, because of the subject and because of Vicky Kaushal. Fantastic portrayal. The difference between an actor and a star is the actor can play any part, the star plays the same part in each movie. Kaushal is an actor.

Certainly worth watching!

The Hindi Movies Thread-1.jpg

I quite liked this. Pretty good acting by all but Nana Patekar nails it. Pretty well showcased and good BGM as well. The politics involved is debatable but keeping aside all that, it was a good watch.

Rating - 4/5 (Hotstar). Recommended.

The Archies

Streaming: Netflix

Take a successful comic series, add some star kids, keep the original names, mash a few Hindi dialogues and voila you get a fantastically idiotic movie. What a royal crap this movie is. Agatsya Nanda, Suhana Khan & Kushi Kapoor the star kids are so wooden in their performance that would make one cringe with angst. I wondered whether this was a hindi movie when 80% of the dialogues mouthed are English. I am really disappointed in Zoya Akhtar who directed this film after giving some real good films. Plus adding songs at free will doesn't make the movie a la Grease or Saturday Night Fever. What a waste of 2 hrs. Avoid at all costs.

That must be the theatre print then, this used to be the trend couple of decades back when people used to film the movie sitting in the theatre and share it.

You can still see the movie snippets in many reels on social media.

Much before Youtube, the movies are available on many other piracy platforms, openly. There are times when movie prints are leaked in HD Quality, even before the theatrical release.

Went to the movie expecting a LOT and Vicky Kaushal delivered. The boy literally carries the movie on his shoulders.

That said, the story could have been a lot tighter, the direction could have been better, and why-o-why were the supporting actors so terribly miscast?
Fatima Sana Shaikh made a terrible Indira Gandhi lacking the confidence or demeanor of the former PM. Sanya as Silloo was simply bland.

If not for Vicky Kaushal the movie would have been a bomb.
Recommended.

Am surprised you had any other expectation from this Nepo-special

They look absolutely wooden in the trailer itself. I mean just look at this. Who tells the whole story in a trailer?

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I know this is going to invite brickbats but I just watched Archies on Netflix. If one views it as just another work of fiction or fantasy and keeping aside the contextual controversy of shoe-horning an American teen comic from the mid 60s into an Anglo-Indian community town in the same era, quite frankly, it is NOT half as bad as I thought.
1) The debutant actors are generally ok.
2) The songs are good although I would doubt if they were so steeped in Western rock and roll at the time- but then hey, it is a fantasy right?
3) What lets the movie down is the absolutely simplistic plot of saving a community park, and the means adopted to do so. There was a need to have more "meat" in the story for everyone (especially veteran actors) to bite and for the kids to really test their milk teeth.

It would not have survived the theatre beyond the Multiplex circuit that too in the first week. But I would take this over the blood thirsty mania that is the Animal. We already have enough of it in our real lives today.
I would say a strong (), well, I don't know. Even Sholay had pretty average acting other than AB, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan, and it had perhaps the most chilling scene ever of violence against children. Yet it is a cult classic. By contrast no one even "slaps" each other in Archies. Lets make it 3 on 5 for a nice try.

Well said and thanks for saying it.

As for the movie, it’s a clean watchable movie and I loved the songs and the music specially. Reminded me of THAT THING YOU DO bigtime. Just one Tom Hanks like character would have made this movie so much better. And this slur of Nepotism, it has now become a ruse !! Agastya Nanda has a presence and so does Suhana Khan. They will get success if they work hard going forward or else the example of failures are long anyways. It’s hilarious that one relates nepotism to film industry only and are absolutely cool with the same in every other sphere of life.

Sam Bahadur

The movie is just a showcase for Vicky Kaushal’s acting chops- the man is just brilliant. I got the impression that the makers have practically made the movie from the photographs and news clips available on the great man. The bullet points were touched upon and made into a movie. Could have been so much better.

Rating: 3/5 and that is entirely for Vicky Kaushal.

Kadak Singh

Streaming: Zee

For once Pankaj Tripathi failed to impress me with his acting in this movie, the continuous flip flop between comic and serious acting was not gelling quite right. The film has a story but could have been more tighter and grippier as the climax was all the way too easy and timid. Sanjana Sanghi is the actress to look out for if given some good roles, the girl has talent and showcased it right in the movie. Rest of the cast supported well but the movie could have been even more better thriller. One time watch maybe.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Sam Bahadur with the folks yesterday. Even though it was a weekday and we went for a late 10.50 p.m. show at PVR Palladium, the theatre was 90% full. Wasn't expecting this kind of a crowd frankly considering the movie was on for a week already and the initial momentum had subsided.

IMHO, this is not Meghna Gulzar's finest work, coming on the heels of Raazi.

Vicky Kaushal has done a fabulous job essaying the character of the legendary Sam Bahadur, the body language, the expressions, the style of speaking has been embodied with great finesse.

Fatima Sana Sheikh as Indira Gandhi, are you serious? Looked hilarious and demure in all scenes.

The movie basically feels like a documentary taking us through the life of the legend.
