Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Is it money laundering at play or did bhool bhulaiyaa 2 actually make 200 crores? It was simply unbearable to watch.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Hamid (Netflix)
It's a story at Kashmir's backdrop wherein the plot revolves around a kid who is searching his lost father and an Indian army soldier, away from his family, and is yet to see his new born daughter.

Bina Tripathi has played role of kid's mother.

The pace is slow, revealing common man's life unapologetically with all army and unrest around. It also depicts what soldiers go through and have to face.

Rating 3.5/5

Runway 34: 3/5 (Prime Video)

Overall, a decent watch but there are a few scenes that induce cringe. Apart from Rakul Preet's acting, everything else was ok.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Found Runway 34 to be quite a gripping story! Will give it a 4 / 5 star rating and say, it's one of the better Hindi movies on streaming right now. Interesting plot and excellent camera work (you actually feel the aircraft swaying violently). Nice performances by all - including Bachchan obviously - although I feel Ajay Devgan should get out of his standard "arrogant + overconfident" look. It's the same in every movie.

@GTO- +1 to that. I just ended watching this a couple of minutes ago. It is indeed a different movie (for Hindi commercial cinema) and perhaps too technical for the common audience, although they did try their best. In fact I thought that Ajay did his usual restrained performance, and Amitabh actually toned down his grand demeanour. It is a bit of a mixture of Flight, Sully and also seems to be somewhat influenced by the novel "The Pilot" by Robert P Davies.

The original is such a cult with terrific acting by the main cast, and even better by the support cast. This one has barely any acting.

Unfortunately I found the movie pretty boring. The first half was gripping but the second half was a pain to watch. Surprisingly Sr Bacchan wasnt the usual self I guess. The whole interrogation scenes moved so slowly, no gripping moments, no surprise catches. Rakul's acting is nothing worth to mention also, too hamming.

If any DGCA guys watch the movie they would be wondering where would they get such swanky offices.

Rating: 2/10.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Runway 34: Pretty decent watch, but the makers seem to be torn between projecting it as an 'Ajay Devgn is a super hero pilot' movie while at the same time attempting to stick to the plot and narrative and hence falls somewhere it between. The scenes unnecessarily elevating his character stand out sorely.

The flight landing scenes have been shot well and builds sufficient tension although you know what will happen.

One thing that bothered me was what I think were inaccurate portrayals of the airports in question. Kochi and Trivandrum. Although the actual incident is based off these 2 airports and there were a lot of cinematic liberties taken, at least they could have used some stock footage to accurately show the airports. Also, as far as I am aware, Trivandrum has only one runway and is also shown as a tabletop airport in the film which it is definitely not. They should have shown the diversion from Kochi to Calicut- which is a much more dangerous airport to land at. Could have upped the drama further. The whole ATC setup also seemed very artificial.

Our review is quite similar to yours. Movie had so much potential. Sadly, screenplay is really poor. Rakul as Pilot has to be one of the worst performance by an actor. Boman was over the top, Big B looked bored and going through motions, Ajay tried but script didn't give him much scope to shine.

We rated this 4/10

Forensic on Zee5

Having seen the original Malayalam movie on which this is loosely based, I did not enjoy this movie.
I will recommend watching the original Malayalam movie of the same name streaming on Netflix instead.

Samrat Prithviraj Rating: 3/5
It wasn't such a bad movie as the media portrayed/reviewed. Watched it without a break. I feel the marketing/teasers/trailer let it down. Opening was spectacular, and the whole movie seemed like an honest attempt at telling a tale. But just couldn't get over Akshay Kumar's ludicrous moustache. It was really funny when I imagined he would break into a 'Bala Bala' song step any moment (Particularly the close-ups) . Rest of the movie was all good .

Precisely what I felt as well. Quite a decent movie that looked like an honest effort. Nowhere as bad as what reviews were saying.

from me for a good one time watch.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Saw three movies on OTT over the past week. Would like to rate all of them in the 2.5/5-ish range. All three of them felt like wasted opportunities.

1) ANEK- Beautiful locations, a theme(North East) that was long overdue on the big screen , and a team that has delivered in the past. I was so looking forward to this but the movie disappointed. It is not that bad a movie but it could have been way better and probably that is why it failed at the BO. The movie becomes confusing after starting off as a wannabe thriller. Do not expect another Article 15 from this team. What could have been a powerful eye opener, ends up as just a mediocre political movie. Wishing someone can cover up for this missed opportunity with a wonderful movie about NE or a great web series perhaps.

2) PRITHVIRAJ - It wasn't as bad as the reviews portrayed it but it was not a great one either. It has some visually awesome frames and is engaging in parts. I am sure some of those shots must have been awesome on the big screen. Story was just ordinary. Period films have become too predictable and cliched and when you are unusually heavy on the budget, you will need more than an ordinary story to pull it off. I personally did not like Manushi's acting which was better suited for a Walking Dead movie as a zombie. We can forgive that as this is her first movie and who knows, maybe she will deliver a stunner in her next one BUT what is with the most of the other actors.

3) MAJOR - The best part about Netflix is that we can watch it at speeds upto 1.5x. And that is what you should do in the first 40 minutes in this film. This film catches pace post that. What our 26/11 hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan did for the country is still fresh in our memory and this film had raised hopes, especially after the captivating trailer. But this movie could have been lot more inspiring. I was reminded of Shershaah in a lot of scenes and when comparing to the scale and effort seen in Shershaah, Major looks pale.
If you haven't watched any of the above 3 and are still eager to watch all three, I suggest starting with Major or SP if in a mood to go for period action.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Runway 34: First of all, thanks to Amazon that they didn't ask me to rent it.
Coming to the movie, the plot was good- however, Ajay Devgn doing things that a real pilot will never do to land the plane was out of place. However, the graphics and camera work was good and didn't feel artificial. Coming to the second half of the movie, Amitabh Bachhan grilling the pilots looked more like lawyers grilling hard core criminals (& not professional pilots) and for me, that looked very artificial- just to create tension in minds of audience. Strong arguments were lacking during the entire probe from both sides, defending side more so.

The positive stuff that I can say about this movie is the good graphics and the fact that these movies are warming up the general bollywood audience to a different genre; so thanks for that.

Rating it 3/5

Forensic

Streaming: Zee 5.

I watched the Hindi movie starring Radhika Apte and Vikrant Massey, I was glued to this one and felt it to be good and at par with the original Malayalam one. In fact I had watched about 80% of Malayalam one and forgot to watch the rest. There is a good twist in both the movies. The Hindi one I liked specifically for the beautiful Mussorie locales shown plus the cop character played by the female lead in Hindi is restrained as compared to the loud of the Malayalam one.

Over all I enjoyed the movie in both the languages.
