Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Sherni in amazon prime. I loved watching the movie. My rating would be 4/5. I came to know that the director of the movie is the one who had directed one of my favorite hindi film Newton - Amit V. Masurkar. I saw in credits that there is another film of his called Sulemani Keeda (Writers). Next on my list.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched "Shershaah" on Amazon Prime.

Biographical war film based on PVC Vikram Batra who was martyred during Kargil war in 1999. Excellent acting by Sidharth Malhotra. Photography and locales are note worthy. Would have been still better if the focus was more on war front !!

Rating : 3.5 /5

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Bhuj 3/5

Playing On: Hotstar

The main plot is just a straight 1 line however the movie has connected the dots around it pretty well. The cast apart from Ajay & Sanjay are below average. They could have got someone stronger like Vidya Balan to play the role of Sunderben. Similarly other character actors are below average. Not impressed with Norah Fatehi & Ammy Virk. Sharad Kelkar was decent.

Bad VFX and Patchy characterization ruins the interest further. Story and Dialogues were below average.

Music is okay and there’s not much scope for songs. In fact, a few songs like 'Rammo Rammo', 'Bhai Bhai' and even the famous 'Zaalima Coca Cola' tracks are missing. 'Hanjugam' is forgettable. The devotional song of Sonakshi Sinha ('He Ishwar Maalik He Daata') is ok but looks a bit out of place. Amar Mohile's background score is below average.

The end credits focus more on just pictures of Vijay Karnik and Ranchod Pagi and less of the airstrip and the women.

The wait for an Indian War Movie to be as good as Border still continues..

End credits of Border still gives goosebumps

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Shershah and Bhuj:

These streaming platforms have spoiled us actually. So much so that a picture like Bhuj elicits disdain for wasting time. I couldn’t watch Bhuj after 20 minutes of sheer torture, seeing Ajay Devgan doing his usual stunts and watching Nora Fatehi killing a top officer with her bare hands !! Jingoism at its worst and with atrocious action and flight sequences as well as awful dialogues. Pardon me if the movie redeems itself after the 20 minutes that I watched, but I am sure it will not, going by what I saw !!

Rating for Bhuj: 0.5/5 just for the efforts.

Shershah at least avoids the jingoism and I will give full marks to that. Siddharth Malhotra acts just as he can, straight face with no emotions. The first half is ludicrous but the second half kind of takes control of the movie. The movie is about a war hero and all that the makers could have done is get some perspective about his life. Every movie which involves the captain has got only one interview and one slogan of Ye Dil Maange More to show off.

The movie though contains top notch action sequences and camerawork is really good. I wish the hero that he was, an actor of strong caliber would have nailed the character. The other characters were relegated to the sidelines including the family. Any subordination is taken very seriously in the armed forces but it was shown as a character trait in the movie to make the hero a larger than life figure. Watch it for the action sequences.

Rating: 2/5 and this for the supporting cast and Kiera Advani

Movies like Border, Haqeeqat and 1971 are still the gold standard when it comes to war movies.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Shershah and felt very sad. Somehow, I have always felt that movies built around armed forces or wars have to do justice to the plot. There should not be any caveats while creating these movies.

Unfortunately, what you get is a typical Bollywood movie with weak direction and sad script. Sid Malhotra tries to become what he is not, an actor. The director didn't know if the movie had to be dramatic or heroic or a real war cry. What he ends up delivering is something that is scattered all around.

This famous and glorious war plot needed an insightful and deep subject study from the team.

Rating 2 out of 5.

Watched Shershah. Best part of the movie was the credit section where they show the actual interview of Capt. Vikram Batra.

Pretty contrasting views on Siddharth’s acting skills.

Indeed quite contrasting views but that helped me enjoy the movie with no expectation, turned out liking it

Shershah 4/5
Playing On: Amazon Prime

After the disappointment of Bhuj, Shershah comes across as an excellent movie. Yes, the story line and real life character demanded a stronger actor yet Siddharth has done a commendable job. The storyline highlights his love life as well which is ok since it is a bollywood movie. They havent stretched it too long to be slow down the movie.

Many subtle messages passed on in the movie. How the armed forces are already motivated and dont need high pitched slogans, how the army respects the opponnents National Flag by not stanping on it, how they respect the dead even when their own Nation declines to take the bodies back and so forth.

Watch it today and you shall not be disappointed. Great camera work, locations and average music.

I was a little amused and befuddled around Shershah getting a 4 rating until I found the missing link-I hadn't seen Bhuj.

After watching Bhuj, I realised that Shershah deserves a better rating. If Bhuj is eligible to be rated, the scale itself derives a new meaning. What a horrible and pathetic attempt at making a movie-360 degree of rubbish pitched in one movie called Bhuj.

Totally agree with the rating. After Uri, this is another master piece on important events in our recent history. Nothing was over-the-top here. Simple focus on the main event, the right attitude of the Indian Armed Forces and some romance to add color to the movie.

My wife was watching this so I sat to give her company and caught some of it. In my opinion it's well made and Siddharth did a good job. The post credit scene with real Vikram Batra was really good. It's a decent watch.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Bhuj: 0/5

This is totally a nonsense piece of junk. I would not waste a minute on it. No context, no backstory, just random fight scenes and distorted science (A plane with a broken front wheel lands by a truck being driven on the runway and the plane putting its front on top of the truck, what sorcery is this?) and to top it all there is total lack of script too. Major avoid

Shershaah: 4.5 out of 5

Very well shot, seems like a lot of thought has gone into casting, storyline, shooting locations etc. Not to mention, you begin to like Siddharth by the end of it as his acting is very honest and likeable.

Must watch.

Guess you have not watched below clip of a real airplane landing with help of a truck. Movie scene would definitely be inspired by this.

Must watch.
For me it looked like a spoof of original incident and worth missing this movie. Not even fit for a time pass.

Had a lots of expectation from Ajay Devgan after Tanhaji and it was a total mess.

Sorry to break it to you buddy but this never happened. It was a spoof; an ad created for the Nissan Pickup truck.
