I can recall - Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, Munnabhai MBBS, 3 Idiots, Bheja Fry, 13B().
I'd add Gulaal, Paan Singh Tomar, Shanghai as must watch recent movies.

I remember Paan Singh Tomar was made on a 8 crore budget +marketing costs. Spectacular execution, cinematography, acting in a tight budget. This was in comparison to the Ra One 125 crore disaster at the time.

This movie kept me glued to my seat for the entire showtime. Awesome coverage of all the facts.

Any reviews for *gulp* Prem Ratan Dhan Payo? Family is forcing me to go along with them. I'm a BIG fan of Sallu'bhai, but this seems to be a brainless song, dance & colour movie.

Any inputs?

Rightly summarised :-)

The story is full of song and dance sequences in the first half and honestly seems likes a drag in between. Barring one or two hilarious and a couple of emotional moments, the movie doesn't really impress. What does is the sets, costumes, locations, and certain shots. Salman is Wow :-) in both the roles

The year is so far the best in Salman's career in terms of cinematic finesse. Watch it for Salman alone; lying down on a Gold Class recliner with a tub of popcorn to bide your time and appreciate the visual treat of the sets

Not an intellectual delight for sure

Watch it with your family during the hype exists as thats the only time you'd be able to bear this movie.

It sure is brainless, too many songs & unneccessary details. But watching it with your family during the festive season will help you forgive the director of his creation.

Rhetorical question sirjee. After Dabang 1 which of his movies had even an iota of story / logic? All were the same - song, dance and Bhai!

Sir - its called investment in marriage, not a movie. Go right back and watch it with the wife. You'll get brownie points in your goodwill account for many more spins in the jeep

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

If you liked the kind of movies Hrishikesh Mukherjee made, please do watch "Dum Laga Ke Haisha"

It's a wonderful feel good movie about a couple, their families, the neighbours et all in an arranged marriage gone wrong. Brilliant characterisation and even better acting by Ayushmman Khurana, Sanjay Mishra and some new female lead

My rating = 4 stars

I quite enjoyed Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Wish he'd do more comedies like No Entry, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya etc. Those were

There are so many of them! Hindi movies have definitely come of age.

Rock on
PK
Zindagi Na Miley Doobara
Black Friday
A Wednesday
3 Idiots
Tare Zameen Par
Page 3
Guru
Sarkar
Grand Masti (most fun to watch with your buddies)

I believe Kai Po Che is also a 5 star film, but haven't seen it yet.

Am sure there are many more to add - this list is just off the back of my head.

Watched 'Masaan' last week, on my laptop, connected to tv.

Well, absolute hard hitting movie. Not worth watching it in a multiplex with popcorn.
One should see such movies without any disturbances.
It amazes me how can people act so naturally !! Everyone did their part perfectly.

Edit: This one gets a 5* from my end.

Would like to add Socha Na Tha, looks fresh every time I watch.
The first one from Imtiaz Ali and definitely his best.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Movie: Tamasha

Review: I think this is a type of a movie which will get extreme reviews - some people will be impressed by it while others will hate it. The wierd screen play of the movie might be the biggest reason for these kind of audience reactions. The first half is absolutely haphazard and with nil fluency in story. The second half kind of explains the reason for the movie and people might find it more interesting.

The movie has a simple message but has presented it in a very different/weird/artistic/stupid way (different word depending upon the perception of the audience).

I have liked Imtiaz Ali's previous movies - Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal. His previous movie with Ranbeer Kapoor (Rockstar) was also a different movie with fair amount of weirdness. Well, Tamasha has more of it!

Overall, I would urge people to see it but it will definately not be liked by everyone.
