Red One (Prime)

We really liked the movie for it was :)

Could have been a movie for kids as well but felt the bikini scenes were totally out of place in this movie. Was reminded of F&F series where they get a lady to walk by the camera just for eye candy sake.

Rock looked a bit jaded but chris was good.

Movie could have used a bit of good editing to bring it to the 90min mark though.

All in all, a good night's movie.

3/5

Twisters

Streaming: Jio Cinema

A standalone sequel to the earlier Twister, this one sounds loud but does not blow you away. It's mildy entertaining and does not match up with the original one. There is nothing in the plot or acting which is different except for the new faces. Glen Powell is the only face recognizable. A one time watch recommended if you were a fan of the earlier Twister.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Netflix)

"The Spengler family returns to the iconic New York City firehouse where the original Ghostbusters have taken ghost-busting to the next level. When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must unite to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age."

The previous iteration was a bit ok to watch and i decided to give this a go without much expectations. But even then this turned out quite the drag.

Scenes with the original team were pretty ok but rest of movie was just a frozen brain syndrome!

2/5

Kate (Netflix)

"Slipped a fatal poison on her final job, a ruthless Tokyo assassin has less than 24 hours to find out who ordered the hit and exact revenge."

A standard assassin revenge flick but the Japanese setting and the action scenes were very slick and overall even though it was 20min too long i enjoyed the movie.

3.5/5

The Platform (Netflix)

I had heard a lot of praise on social media about this movie when It released, and so finally sat down to watch it yesterday.

It’s about a prison facility where there are numerous levels (real number revealed towards the end) , with 2 people per level. Food ( for everyone) is passed down from the top most level, once everyday. Watch it to find out how people at the lower levels survive.

4/5 - worth a watch.

PS - There is also a part two on Netflix, You can watch that to find out some more secrets about the facility.

Juror #2 : 3.5/5

Nice and simple storyline - the trailer pretty much expands on the premise and the movie expands that with each characters having a decent screen time as per the need. There are a few twists and turns in the latter half of the movie; but overall it’s a nice short movie that makes a play on morality and justice. Trust Clint Eastwood to bring out good movies in such simple constructs.

Fly Me to the Moon 2024

I am astounded that this movie was made on a budget of 100 million dollars with nothing to justify it. Even the comedy is nothing to remember. Just a casual movie to fill the silence in the air as you scroll through X :)

What you wish for (2023) - Thriller - Prime Videos - 3.5/5

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-wish.jpg

Watched this hidden gem of a slow burn thriller as recommended in a movie group. If you are into a slow burn thrillers, this can be a good watch. Watch it without reading any reviews or synopses. Any discussion on the plot will spoil the plot.

Movie starts with a down-on-his-luck chef visiting old culinary friend who's a private chef for the wealthy at an exotic location, and the story develops further into a thriller.

The movie is kind of slow, but engaging. A big plot reveal is handled in a very subtle way (I am still not sure how I feel about that treatment). There seems to be lot of plot holes if compared to similar genre of mainstream movies, but if you think again, you can assume things can happen as in this movie as well.

Acting by the main lead is good, He felt very real and vulnerable according to the role.

Reunion

Streaming: Netflix

Just happened to see the movie and was glued to the story. Its a murder mystery thriller and the cast is relatively unknown. The twist at the climax was the highlight of the movie. If Thriller movies are your genre, you would watch it once.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (Prime Video)

In one word: Unnerving.

The film is a chilling and riveting adaptation of a tale from Greek Mythology. The cold and monotone acting of all characters literally gives you the jitters. Just when you think something is weird, another scene unravels to something even weirder. The perverse theme sticks with you long after you have watched this film.

Rating: 3.5/5

Return to Sender (Prime Video)

Rosamund Pike plays yet another deviant character. The movie can seem bit of a drag, but in the process, the makers have tried to layer her role. The ending seemed a bit abrupt to me and could have been given more screen-time.

Brawn - The Impossible Formula 1 Story

There have been many f! documentary/seeries and most are live wire / edge of seating viewing and picturization e.g. Drive to Survive.

This one (Brawn) is hosted by Keanu Reeves who plays the interviewer, kind of a facilitator - if you may.

Its the season when Team Brawn, only team in F1 history who won the Drivers and Constructors World Championship in its first ever season. A feat, am sire is hard to beat. Just like 'Arsenal's - Invincibles' clap:

I didn't wait to read the end credits but am guessing Keanu Reeves could have a major role/say in it. Every possible stalwart from Max Mosley, Bernie Ecclestone, some team owners, Brawn Management and Team have given their candid interpretations / opinions.

Kudos to Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello for their no holds barred answers. Simple and true to life packaging, presentation, does give a feeling a awe and share of emotions.

There is a lot of F1 content on OTT, but this on Hotstar got me absolutely hooked!

5**** / 5

2 movies during a recent flight.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

This is a sequel to the 1988 movie Beetle juice which I hadnt seen. I saw the movie since the director was Tim Burton, the movie was supposed to be a gothic dark horror comedy but it was pointless and not funny at all. The star cast of Micheal Keaton, Winona Ryder, Monica Belluci, William Defoe did not bring out the movie the way it should have. Most of these actors kind of overacted. One time watch maybe for Tim Burton fans.

Rating: 2.5/5

Trap

Watched it as this was M Shyamalam directed movie, however I felt the movie did not have the Shyamalam touch of spookiness, the suspense, the last minute twist as the plot was revealed quite early, the rest of the movie was just a stretch. Josh Hartnett shines as the lead actor, rest of the cast is pretty unknown. One time watch for people who enjoy this genre.

Heretic (2024) - Horror/ Mystery Thriller - 3.5/5

This horror/mistery thriller starring Hugh Grant in lead role was an interesting experience. Terrific acting by Hugh Grant. Lot of philosophic dialogues, but enjoyable the way it was presented. I did feel some plot holes here and there, but enjoyed the movie fully.
It's not a typical horror movie with jump scares, supernatural elements or gore etc. Movie focus on atmospheric tension provided by the cat and mouse game between the characters, what and why kind of questions etc.

Back in Action on Netflix. A very template spy/action movie that does not take itself very seriously. The good thing about is that Cameron Diaz is back after a long long gap and along with Jamie Foxx, makes the movie watchable. Some comic elements work and both of them do the action scenes well. Cameron Diaz has not lost her comic timing as well as the action skills.

Flow 2024

One of the best "aesthetic" animated movies of 2024. A great competitor for the Oscars alongside Wild Robot.

I felt that Jamiee Fox and Cameron Diaz were mis cast for the movie, the chemistry was missing in most of their non action scenes. Surely the movie doesn't need a sequel which is evident from the climax.
