Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched THE LIE (3.5/5) on prime.
It's about the plight of parents when the teen daughter commits a murder, and how they try every trick to save her. Fresh faces, new plot, good performances. Worth a watch.

Hitman

Netflix - fun movie about a mild mannered psychology professor who works with the police in posing as a hitman for hire to lure offenders in for prosecution. He studies the profile of the potential offender, then disguises and adapts mannerisms to lure them in.

All goes well until he discourages an attractive potential offender and advises her not to go ahead. He gets mixed up with her, the ex she wanted killed and his colleagues!

Great fun 4/5

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)

Guy Ritchie's days of respected films are well behind him. I didn't finish watching the entire film as I turned off a lil over half way.

Verdict: Trash!

I subscribed to Jio Cinema premium and was able to watch the movies and instantly regretted watching them (karma strikes I guess).

Shazam: Rating: 1/5
Flash: 2/5
Blue Beetle: 2/5
Aquaman & Lost kingdom: 1/5
Kungfu Panda 4: 2/5

In most of these movies either i fast forwarded or switched off midway.

May be late to the party but speaking of Godzilla, the "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is on HBO as of 4th July.

Rating 1/5.

Compared to Godzilla -1, this movie is near garbage. Godzilla movies have a ridiculous premise to start with and thus making good Godzilla movie is difficult. This one fails miserably at it, quite predictably right from the start. Even for mindless fun its boring.

For one, the scale of the monsters. In this movie they fail to correctly depict how big Kong, mini Kong and Godzilla are. Its funny, sometimes the monsters feel 30 story tall and sometimes they feel about the size of the elephant. The mini Kong is especially terrible but rest of the one time feature monsters are also mis-scaled.

Other thing that takes the fun away is how human like the Kong pair acts. Its ludicrous how they behave and not at all enjoyable. Don't know why they couldn't make Kongs act more...wild.

If that wasn't enough, the story, the acting, direction is all poor.

Avoid. Its funny how you have one of the best Godzilla movie and one of the worst, release in quick succession.

King Arthur Dog - is an endearing film about tenacity and loyalty - between humans and a dog. If you watch till the end you will see the actual people and the dog behind this true story.

Some times victory comes second to the bond of loyalty and friendship.

Under Paris: (netlfix)

For some reason, I decided to watch this movie yesterday night. It was a nice enough throwback to the old creature movie genre

No sense or logic just a shark on a rampage.

Watch if you have nothing else to do.

Big George Foreman (2023)

For boxing lovers, this movie is a big thumbs up! No wonder the best paid sportsmen always seem to be from the world of American Professional boxing. They truly are an epitome to what bloody and glory is all about.

I didn't know much about George Foreman, but man I don't think any sportsman can hold a candle to this gem of a person. This biopic was truly inspirational.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

All below are on Netflix.

Godzilla Minus one.

Decent movie. Got me interested in the Godzilla series again.
3.5/5

Atlas

Stars Jennifer Lopez. Sci-Fi action. If you like to see JLo's face up close this one is for you. She has become a bit old but still holds her own. Don't expect to see much of her "charms" here.
3.5/5

Rebel Moon part 1 & 2

If you liked Star Wars this should be definitely on your watch list. Not much of a story but more on action. The part 1 beginning reminds be of the start of "The inglorious Basterds" opening.
3.5/5.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Civil War (2024, Prime):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17279496/

"A journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House."

Chanced upon this movie while scrolling through prime. As a movie it is good. But it sure is depressing to watch.

Find Me Falling, on Netflix

An absolutely gorgeous film, simple storyline but done extremely well. Set in a beautiful Cyprus town.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Zone of Interest (Prime) - What a stunning movie! The movie is set against the backdrop of Auschwitz concentration camp and focuses on the family of the camp commander. Unlike other Holocaust movies, it doesn't show the horrors on screen but it can always be heard in the background. Shows the "human" side of SS officers and their families and how it is the normal people who are capable of committing such crimes. The movie is in German.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched Twisters in IMAX - Glen Powell shines through.

Definitely a 3/5 . Decent story line, a bit of freshness in there.

Keeps you engaged for most of the duration.

The cinematography and graphics are decently done.
