The other cast supports well in the film. A must watch but note this is a slow thriller.
I think you forgot to stress on the fact this was a slow movie.

He did use the phrase- 'slow burn'.

I watched this last weekend. Liked it a lot. The end was off putting but nothing you don't expect from a movie of this genre.

I liked "Leave the world behind" a lot, slow burn or not I guess I am just a big sucker for that genre. Excellent camera work, great acting and keeps you on the edge as mentioned.

A definite watch in my opinion.

No one will save you

4/5

The movie has no dialogues. To me it the movie was AMAZING. I love alien horror, thriller sort movies a lot and this wastes no time getting to the point. So many movies burn a lot of screen time before something exciting, alien-ish happens but not this one. The ending threw me off but overall? Loved it!

Leave the World Behind

I somehow couldn't connect with this movie. It was slow, unexciting and boring (Personal view). Also, the acting wasn't that great either considering the movies that they have done before.

Rating - 2/5 (Netflix)

No escape room (2018) - Netflix 2.5/5

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-images-44.jpeg

Watched this movie even it had mostly negative reviews online. Some times for me, stupid movies tend to work (especially low budget horror thrillers).

This movie too had it's positives. It was thrilling and engaging for most parts, if you keep logic away.

Being said that, it had too many negatives :

The Father - daughter chemistry was big zero,
Casting is silly, the supposedly teen daughter looked like she is in her 30's
Bad acting, by all the actors (lead & supporting roles)
So many loop holes in the story.

Watch it if you like this genre and not very particular about logic.

I guess the 2019 Escape Room (Netflix) was the best of the lot. It did have some good puzzles and some good actors as well.

The Family Plan - 3.5/5

A fun way to introduce a story that has been told time and time again! A former assassin and father, played by Wahlberg adjusts to his new life in the suburbs as he tries desperately to cover up his old life. It does bring the vibe of the Spy Next Door starring Jackie Chan back in a brand new, modern way.

Hypnotic

Streaming: Amazon Prime.

A very craft story right from the beginning, not many would enjoy the plot of the film. Ben Affleck was effortlessly superb in acting. Rest of the cast supported well.

Watched it today. I wouldn't agree with the "Excellent camera work" there were couple of scenes where the camera circular panning seemed annoying.

Slow yes, but the suspense is there all through the movie.

I watched it with family and all the while my wife and kids were like .. Why are they doing that ? Why would anyone do this at this time ??

As for the ending ..
All I can say is a good watch with "Friends" ..

Somehow I forced myself to watch this till the end as I was bored today. The camera work was irritating - or was it a drone camera?

Willy Wonka.

A truly delightful, timeless story, gorgeous sets and set
to lovely music. An excellent cast, brilliantly suited to their roles.
Brings the Child inside right back to the Top.
A Must Watch, in my Book.
What a fantastic imagination Roald Dahl, the Author, had!

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

*Arrival (2016)* - 4/5

Watched this movie on Prime Video few days back.
Good development of the story and Good acting by leads actors - Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker.
The basic story is about communicating with Aliens after they have nearly landed their ships on Earth - Decoding the Alien language and finding out their purpose for coming to Earth.
But, as you watch the movie, the underlying story of the Characters continues developing and it emotionally connects with you.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007)

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-img_4689.jpeg

A grim, dark tale about how two brothers’ plan to rob their parents’ jewellery store goes horribly wrong.

The movie uses this central incident to explore how deeply dysfunctional the relationships between the main characters are, and each person’s motivations/viewpoints leading up to or consequential to the crime.

An intense and compelling watch - part crime drama, part character study. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke in the lead roles are both spellbinding, with Hoffman being nuanced and explosive in equal measure.

Streaming on Lionsgate, rated A for mature themes, violence and explicit sex scenes.
