Landscape with Invisible Hand (2023)

This movie is based on a book with the same name by M. T. Anderson. Enjoyable, unexpected and unlike anything I have seen; a little slow in the middle, but 10/10 for being original! Despite its flaws, I was still invested and interested to see where the film could lead towards and overall it's not perfect and not for everyone.

The Mothman Prophecies:

Watched this movie on Prime over the weekend. My God, what a snoozefest it was.

2/5

Really running out of horror movies to watch and that's such a disappointment

Watched Family Switch on Netflix over the weekend.

Nothing special about this one at all, completed watching just for the sake of it. The storyline is highly predictable and nothing to rave about. A typical average-American family Christmas special.

P.s. Jennifer Garner looks pretty as ever!

Rating: 1.5/5

Glenn Howerton as Jim Balsillie - a ruthless, hard-charging aggressive CEO - is just fantastic. What's more, the movie is well-paced. Never slow, you'll never get bored. Just like so many other tech companies (e.g. Nokia, Xerox), they were once at the top of the game. Too big to fail, until they were completely disrupted & failed to adapt.

Giving this movie a full 5 / 5 stars.

Guys, just wanted to update that this terrific film is now on Prime Video India for 100 bucks. Those who love tech and / or business, don't miss it.

Killers of the Flower Moon - 4.5/5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cx9nCHsemc

Martin Scorsese has directed yet another masterpiece. And it's not for everyone!!

Killers of the Flower Moon is a brutal, disturbing, shocking depiction of the real life Osage Indian murders and defacto crime boss William "King" Hale's greed and corruption which led to genocidal intentions and actions against the Osage people.

Yes, at 3 hrs 26 mins - it is long but I honestly didn't find it dragging - the point is it is engaging - there are plenty of dramatic scenes to ensure that.

To catch a killer - Prime Video

This just popped up in the list and a decent watch with 2 hour run time. This is another who done it movie. IMDb rating is 6.6, but kept us engaging throughout.

Leave the World Behind

Streaming: Netflix

A tense slow burn thriller that keeps you hooked and on the edge. The slow turn of events keeps you guessing for the next twist or turn. This movie is thoroughly engaging, however the end completely puts you off. Superb acting by Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali. A cameo by Kevin Bacon comes at the right time. The other cast supports well in the film. A must watch but note this is a slow thriller.

Rating: 4/5

Amsterdam: 3/5
A movie loosely based on what is supposed to be an attempt at insurrection in the 1930s USA. Apparently a bunch of leading men in the USA who were in thrall of the Nazis wanted to depose Roosevelt.
While the story line is quite good, found that the acting was a bit overdone (yes even Christan Bale!) some gore that could have been avoided.
Streaming on prime

Detective Knight -Redemption: 2.5/5
Came up in the recommendation in the app, and watched it since it had Bruce Willis. Was taken aback by the limited role Willis had, mostly it is face shots and a few wooden dialogues. Skip this if you wanted to see John MCLane in action.
Streaming on lionsgate

Tears of the sun - 1/5

Just another bollywood style english masala movie with lot of sentimental and unrealistic heroic with "never ending supply of amunition" war scenes after a violation of planned military mission objective.

Watched this on Amazon Prime and totally recommend it.

Nefarious (2023) 4/5

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14537248/

Plot: On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer gets a psychiatric evaluation during which he claims he is a demon, and further claims that before their time is over, the psychiatrist will commit three murders of his own.

Watched "Moneyball" on Netflix. 4/5

Very engaging movie and it was one character centric film. Looks apart, Brad Pitt is a phenomenal actor and easily pulled this one very well.

Fast Charlie - 3.5/5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEjexRdeuo0

If you like hit man revenge mixed with 007 old bravado and a small love story with a happy ending, you will enjoy Fast Charlie.

Wandering Earth 2 -Sci Fi - 4/5 - Streaming on prime
Wandering Earth 1 -Sci Fi - 3.5/5 - Streaming on netflix

Premise is interesting, the Sun starts expanding (death throes?) and as a conequence, humaity (led by the Chinese) decide to move the Earth into another star system. Massive "earth engines" are deployed at different points on earth and the earth becomes a "rocket".
It was also interesting to watch the world being saved by Chinese and their "no limits" buddies the Russians with some supporting role for Italians rather than the usual Americans and the 5I variations :-)

I watched the second part first (this is a prequel), liked it and decided to watch the first one well. Found that the part 2 was better made than part 1.

As a lover of business movies, I was ecstatic to see "Dumb Money" on Amazon Prime. Rented it for a mere 99 bucks.

Crazy movie around a true story! Reddit, social media & YouTube videos led to a huge group of individual investors buying GameStop shares. Hedge Funds had made massive bets (short positions) on the price falling, but Redditors led to an insane, unbelievable and illogical rise in its stock price.

Wild movie, wild story, great acting. Rating it 5 / 5

Thanks for the recommendation!
A rather abrupt, open ended - ending, a great watch nonetheless.
