Was the USA that paranoid about communism back then?
.....
Haven't you heard about the term 'McCarthyism'?
Senator McCarthy and the infamous witch hunts for Communists/ Communist sympathizers in US in late 40s and 50s. Look it up. I'm sure there are few Hollywood movies on this genre as well.

Me too. I saw it on imax last week.

I loved the cinematography and the acting. Story - there is nothing new that is not already known world over.
it was Nolan's narration that I went to go and see and I loved it. Background score by Ludwig Goransson was good too.

To be honest, this was my first time seeing any movie in imax and frankly I couldn't make out the difference. I would have liked the movie just as much even on a non-imax screen.

Nowhere (Netflix)

A pretty decent survivor flick. The makers threw all what they could think of to make the movie tug at your heart and some instances does make your heart wince.

Quite a dark emotional movie.

Beckham Tv Miniseries

This documentary series should serve as an example during trainings or courses for PR consultancy. Money is well spent, that is for sure.

You watch the series and kill time without too much effort. But my God, afterwards I realised that I was watching Beckham commercials for almost 5 hours. Is all this PR meant to get Beckham a royal title? Then pls Mr. Charles give this man that title and save us from more superficiality, dishonesty and no transparency. The more I type the more I realise that I have probably been seen as a stupid sheep by the makers?

I have nothing against David Beckham, don't get me wrong, but thank God Victoria came by every now and then and gave us probably 'unintentionally' some real info.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

The Little Things*(2021): I am going to count this one as one of the top 10 movies by Denzel. For me, it is very close to Se7en. Those who love crime drama with “bling” should stay away from it, as this is pure drama with superb acting from Denzel and Leto. Spoiler ahead: The only negative is the ending; it doesn't give you any clarity about the killer. Although watching a few YouTube videos might give you a bit of satisfaction. With a proper ending, I would have given it 10.

Recommended.

Expend4bles (2023) : 2/5

Let me just admit, I’m a really big fan of Stallone and Statham and I really loved watching them in expendables 1 and 2. Although I was not really a fan of no 3, I was very excited to see no 4 after watching the trailer.

It starts off really good and the banter with Statham is on point as always. After a bad decision in the beginning that puts Stallone out of the pic for a while Statham takes over for awhile along with some of the team.

In a nutshell, Expendables 4 is a Christmas story. Statham fans should be satisfied, as he is not only the best part of the film but also the biggest piece of it.

The action scenes are the only saving grace of the film. A really disappointing and the weakest film of the franchise.

Ditto here. I did not even watch the film completely and quit half the way.

This maybe because Stallone was doing the production work as mentioned in wiki

Quote:
As Stallone was looking to pass the franchise's lead on to Statham, he did about 80% of all filming and oversaw post-production, also serving as a producer.

Killers of the Flower Moon

A slow burn crime drama with amazing screenplay, cinematography and acting. A run time of 3.5 hrs is long but story is gripping. We went without reading anything about this movie (deliberately) but looking at the cast only and they didn't disappoint.

Based on a book by the same name which itself is based on true events.

A solid 4.5/5

Pain Hustlers

Streaming: Netflix

Absolute gem of a movie, shows the dark side of the pharmaceutical business. Emily Blunt and Chris Evans were simply good with Any Garcia beautifully supporting. But Emily Blunt carries the movie all through out. A must watch, highly recommended.

Metal Lords (2022, Netlifx)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12141112/

"Two friends try to form a heavy metal band with a cellist for a Battle of the Bands."

Watched this on Netflix yesterday night. It was a fun watch with good "Metal" moments. The cameos were awesome as well.

Good fun movie for a metalhead \m/

Killer of the Flower Moon

I read the book by David Grann back in 2018 and I remember that it was a nail biter, so much so that I have Grann's book "The Wager" in my next read.
The movie was a disappointment. Slow would be an understatement and the mystery element was sucked out by the director in the first half itself. And Holy Vishnu, does Scorsese need an editor or what!
The ending of the movie was a disappointment too while the book treats it as a well-structured third act.

The title of the book says "The Osage murders and the Birth of the FBI". The FBI part was completely missing.

For someone insisting that Marvel movies are not actual movies, I expected way better.

A Haunting In Venice

Streaming: Hotstar

Set in Venice, Italy the movie is a fantastic suspense thriller based on Agatha Christie novel. I expected some creepiness but that wasn't there. Keneth Branagh as the French detective Hercule Poirot brings life to this movie with his typical french accent and mannerism. Tina Fey and Michelle Yeoh do justice to their characters. Surely a one time watch.

I watched it last night. It was gripping but the ending was more of a narration than an actual closure. It might have made the movie extend to 4 hours
