Top Gun - Maverick

3.5 out of 5

I had very high expectations from a modern day top gun, maybe that led to me being a tad bit disappointed.

For me this should have been on the Pearl Harbor or Rush or even Dark Knight for that matter kind of production quality, but it was not to be. Also, it looked to me like the storyline was cobbled up to get that mission scenes or the fighter plane scenes in. They should have ideally got names or a real mission planned like Israel's bombing of Iraqi Nuclear reactor or its bombing of Syria's Nuclear reactor, something which had names, places and countries in it to make it sound like a real mission.

Can anybody suggest latest Horror movies/webseries ?

Some of the recent ones i had watched:

No one gets out alive: (Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13056008/

Would rate it 2.5/5. It was ok.

In the tall grass: (Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4687108/

Thought it was pretty good. One scene was particularly unsettling.
3.5/5

Blood red sky (Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6402468/

Pretty intense.

3/5

Don't listen: (Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11750282/

Time pass.
2.5/5

His House (Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8508734/

Dark.

3.5/5

You don't know Jack - Hotstar
Great movie, deals with a real life doctor who helped terminally ill patients/patients with incurable diseases with assisted suicide (highly controversial topic in medical fraternity).

The age of Adaline - Prime Video
A different take on immortality.
4.5/5

Prey - 4.5/5

Amazing! I am a big fan of this series, the Aliens franchise and their crossover. This is truly a worthy prequel to the series. I loved how they stuck to the basics just like the classic Predator. Loved the action sequences and the Predator’s arsenal which is also primordial just like the overall setting of the movie. The climax was kickass!

Fans of the series - don’t miss this! If it bleeds, we can kill it. :D

Bad Samaritan (Prime)

Running out of horror movies to watch over the weekend and we chanced upon this. Scary? Not so much, but boy oh boy, does David Tenant play a role!

3.5/5

If not watched already, watch 'It Follows'. I will not say much as it may lead to spoilers.

K-Pax : 4/5

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0272152/

Another masterpiece from Kevin Spacey. Slow and intriguing, this reminded me of The Man from Earth. The is available on Lionsgate Play.

The unbearable weight of massive talent : 3/5

A fun comedy by Nicholas Cage (like the National Treasure). He plays himself as forgotten actor who gets into a tricky situation. The first half was fun, second half was a little drag. Overall a decent one time watch.

Available on Lionsgate Play.

Nicholas Cage is an excellent actor but not getting roles which suit his calibre. Hope he gets some good scripts which allow him to act.

But of course. Like i said, we are running out of good horror movies. Well that's because we would have watched most of the popular and some of the offbeat ones as well.

We have moved on to regional horror movies now :)

You can add the below movies to the list
It's not pure horror per say. But Slasher horror genere.

3.5/5 - Amazon prime videos

The story is set in 1970's and the production cinematography is fantastic. The color tone, the style and even actors overview pefectly fits the timeline.
There is nudity, sex scenes, killings and gore, topped with couple of jump scare scenes.
Though there are few cliche and predictable scenes, overall the movie is prety well executed i would say.

Prequel to X, I don't think it's released in OTT yet, heard good reviews.

X is in my watch list, saving it for a night of solo watching. Wife does not like slasher/gore movies. More into supernatural horror.

Didn't know that there's a prequel. Thanks for the headsup.

The others (2001) - 4/5 Pretty good slow paced psychological horror thriller. Great plot twist too.

1408 (2007) - 4/5 Mind bending psychological horror thriller. It got multiple climaxes. hope you get the proper one.

Brightburn (2019) 3/5 Interesting thread, slightly gory. More of a superhuman horror.

Haunting of hill house - 4/5 Netflix series. Grippy and dark.

Occulus (2013) - 4/5 Slow paced grippy psychological horror movie, It does not have much jump scares or gore, but some scenes are intense. Got a great plot twist too

Loved each and every inch of all the rolling film reels of this wonderful throwback (or a re-imagining, call what you may).

Am a big fan of the franchise and must have seen each movie (in this and in the Alien series) at least 100 times since the VHS era, if not more.

This one ranks right up there alongside 1990's wonderful sequel and 2010's classy effort, and just a smidge below the original.

Excited for the Predator series now, after Shane Black's disastrous, nearly incoherent 2018 effort (studio was to blame for that one).
