Might reserve 4dx for round 2! :D

I've watched it twice in 4DX ;) I thought it was one of those rare films which shine in 4DX where the tech doesn't feel like a distraction. I'd say once in IMAX and once in 4DX would be the perfect combo

I was not comparing the two characters and I agree that Jennifer Connelly did quite well as the love interest in Maverick. What I meant was that they should have referenced Charlie, even if it was in passing, considering that Charlie was the main love interest in the first film. Since they referenced Goose and Carole in flashbacks, this stood out all the more for me.

Having said that, on the whole Maverick did a far superior job of hat-tipping the original than Marvel did with Spiderman NWH, or DC did with Superman Returns.

Top Gun was fun. I had taken two twelve year old girls (we got easy tickets) with some doubt if they will like a movie about fighter planes and whether they will connect with this movie since they have not seen the original. I was pleasantly surprised to see both the girls enjoy the movie and actually said that they would not mind watching it again.

It taught me that age and gender does not matter for these kind of action movies and Hollywood does it quite well even if their plots have holes big enough to fly one of the F18s through. Also this movie works very well in isolation even if the original is not connected or referenced. Jennifer Connelly's is much better than Kelly McGillis and that expressions of the kid and Tom Cruise when he jumped out of the window made me laugh.

The tie up with the original was quite well done and even now Harold Faltmeyer's tune with the afterburners gives goosebumps

Interceptor

Streaming: Netflix

The film features Elsa Pataky (of F&F fame + wife of Chris Hemsworth) as a lone army person battling the terrorists who intend to take over an secret US location. The movie is one time watch if nothing better is available. The actions scenes arent even worth mentioning.

Rating: 2.5/5

I liked Top Gun: Maverick. Improves upon the original in every imaginable way.

I liked how the past is respected in the movie, but with new characters and their relations as well. I liked how they portrayed Tom as just a Captain, seeing his flybys and nature. I like how the rivalry between Rooster and Maverick, and their mentorship plays out.
I liked how Admiral Iceman supported Maverick using his influence and clout till the very end of his life, and after he passed away, there was a world of trouble for Maverick.

Its admirable that although Tom Kazansky (Iceman)'s actor was not exactly physically fit, considering his battle with cancer in real life, and yet Tom insisted that he be there in the movie. How many times you saw this happening? Remarkable.

Kelly McGillis herself said that she's moved on from the industry to her family, and she's in no shape to continue acting in this movie. And that she'll watch the premier if it lands where she is residing. A super mature reaction if you ask me.
And anyways, if a love interest stays for 30 years, she's not a love interest but a spouse, a wife. And you must add kids to the equation if this happens and McGillis wasn't a wife exactly in the first movie, so its ok.

Aha. Now I get the cameo role :D

All this time I was wondering why/how/what's the connection.

Hustle on Netflix:

Adam Sandler in a sports/comedy/drama movie with a predictable storyline. But worth the watch for the humorous script and the gamut of NBA stars.

Was reminded of Kevin Bacon's "Up in the air" movie of old.

I booked tickets twice on the same day, let’s find out why.

I was at my home in Chennai for the last two weeks and booked tickets for TOP GUN MAVERICK through BookMy Show at Luxe cinema (Marketcity- Velachery) on 28th May 7:30pm show. Started by 6PM from Porur towards Velachery, due to heavy traffic and metro rail construction we were moving at a snail pace and managed to enter the mall by 7:20PM, I was so happy that I’ll make it to the show on time but here comes the horror.

There was a long queue of cars starting from the entrance of the mall and I can see the parking usher collecting mobile number from each car crossing the parking token machine, absolutely insane at this peak hour and further adding to the delay. I thought some how the cars will move quickly but much to my surprise we were still stuck in the ugly mess and no one to organize the traffic scene inside the mall, anxiety level started to raise and we were crawling almost for 30 minutes to get a parking lot and by the time I parked the car it was already 8:15PM. OH, what a disappointment and thanks to the poorly managed parking at Phoenix Market City, Velachery.

So, what to do now, should we go back home? no way. I asked my son to quickly book tickets for the next show at 11PM and luckily we got ticket and two hours of time at our disposal.

We didn’t have any plans for shopping so thought of going for dinner, took an auto rickshaw and went to Yaa Mohaideen biryani, yummy.

Got back to the mall around 10:15PM and entered the grand luxe lobby area. I saw the length of the movie is around two plus hours but that went like two minutes, each second was worth watching this amazing masterpiece.

Finally, no regrets spending extra 1500 Rs for this movie but still it’s a hard-earned money which can’t be wasted just like that, anyway we all had good time and reached home by 2:15AM.

Given the reviews, Do I need to break the no movie in theater in India rule?
The last movie I watched in a theater was Avengers Infinity wars and Swore off theaters due to the torturous advts and forced patriotism etc.

Do not understand why we have to pay a huge amount for tickets and be forced to watch what we didn't ask for. Since then it's been Netflix/Prime/Torrent etc. Save for a couple of kids movies which i go in 10/15 mins after the advertised show time. I genuinely think this kind of commercialism kills the fun of movies.

Thanks for reminding me. Nothing I hate more than standing for any country's "national anthem". They have the same thing at baseball games in the US.

TOP GUN MAVERICK :

A true sequel in every sense. The ending was a bit bollywood type but I loved every moment in the movie, especially the chemistry between all the actors. Well it seems like an end of an era for TopGun franchise and I think I am lucky to have caught this one in the theatre.

P.S: PVR Juhu morning show was available at just 150 bucks, so no harm to the wallet either :D :)

Watched this in theaters in 3D. Felt like a waste of time.they bought back the original cast members, but gave shallow characters, felt so boring and predictable at places. .The 3D was a joke. Nothing except subtitles were 3D :D. Initially thought it was the theater problem, but few of my friends and some people in social medial also reported the same. Same with sound effects too.

Overall avoidable in theaters.

I went for a 3pm show. The ad-show started right on time and continued till 3:25pm. Post that the anthem and when I thought I could now enjoy the movie, they threw in a few more ads.

That sucks, is it so bad there? In my city, 2 of the mulitplexes start right on time and I have in fact missed a couple of minutes due to delays in getting snacks etc. Inox here starts late but that too is capped at 10 minutes, based on my limited experience. Running ads for 30 minutes is :Frustrati
